  • What is your drums ?

  • @ginises83 It's a Yamaha DTXtreme IIs.

  • Damn! You make it look so easy :-(

  • Dude, I never liked electric drum kits before ...but you totally master them. I'll have to re-think them. Thanks for the excellent vid.

    Cleveland, Ohio

  • One of the best drum covers I've heard in a while. Fantastic stuff.

  • Nice snare work. I've been thinking about buying an DTXtreme but wondered about the sensitivity and how they sound. You should be getting paid buy Yamaha, for promoting what they can do. This song is especially technical, well done.

  • I'm not sure if it's the way you have the drums miced, but it sounds incredibly nice, especially the hi-hat, which is crystal clear. The bass drum sounds slightly weak. But it's an amazing rendition of this song. You seem to have all the ghost notes down pat.

    Great job!

  • @nurktwin1960 Thank you very much! Technically the drum is not miced; its audio output is connected to a mixer, that is in turn connected to the computer.

  • Phil Collins...only WITH hair! Great job.

  • very good,great!

  • starting at 1:03 shouldn t we hear more bas drum kicks?aside, well done.......

  • You covered this well and are a very good drummer. You caught most of the nuances Phil throws into this performance.. You're covering Phil playing during his true brilliant days. These songs were difficult to play and Phil was the man for the job. There are countless songs like this. This was leading into Aisle Of Plenty which is amazing. My best friend is a very talented drummer. To this day he says there is certain drumming on Genesis's older material that is very hard to master. Well done.

  • great man !!

  • how about a "virtual genesis" cover band??

  • good work!!!

  • me thinks more flexible foot work needed , missing many double up beats and sync strikes ,

    Fair play to you ;]

  • 7/4

  • Excellent work!

  • You are a good drummer. Bravo!!

  • SUGGESTION: the last eight hits in your 7/8 pattern are (nothing)-share-kick-snare-kick-accented snare-nothing-snare. Phil does (nothing)-snareroll-kick-snare-kick-kick -snare-snare as a starting point. This is assuming each hit is a sixteenth note. Requires precise control of the double stroke so it doesn't sound forced. Also, close mic'd drums help, but electric is OK. You nailed everything else, good work.

  • nice job, trying to play phil collins greatest drumline aint easy!

  • I can't ear the bass drumm!!!!!!!however very nice

  • Your stick work is lovely, with some nice fills etc. But I can't understand why you neglect the bass drum like that.. it's what the whole groove sits on, especially as you've chosen the much more difficult studio version.

  • Nice job! The 7/8 time signature was a bit challenging for me.. I learned a lot from your video and may try this again... 5 stars for this one. Thanks for sharing!

  • Amazing... I wish I could drum like that. Early Genesis Phil is probably my favorite drummer ever. I love how he seems to float loosely, but precisely about the drum set, unlike many modern day drummers who seem very stiff & uptight by comparison. More likely it merely reflects the modern drum trends. Anyway you captured his style wonderfully. I think you're right about not doing the main beat right, but it is damn hard to figure out what he's doing there, & what you did was close enough.

  • I appreciated what you said about Phil's early drumming - he could do straight beats, but he seemed to have that "floating" ability, too...with some songs I got the sense that his drumsticks were "dancing" in his hands as he played...unless a person had heard Phil's 70's drumming (with Genesis - and with Brand X) and had just heard his (much toned-down) 80's drumming, I imagine that most persons would consider his skills as even mediocre...(for me) he was a virtuoso...thanks, Phil...

  • I really appreciated your drumming here - you did a great job...and you really captured the quieter rhythmic and fluid mood of the studio version...I like aspects of both the SEBTP and the SO versions, but the studio version has a certain sweetness to it...thanks for the experience...and we should also thank Phil for his drumming contribution...

  • great job. if anything, i find the '77 live versions easier to play. I'm glad to see that you attempted teh album version. great job, it sounds beautiful.

  • Awesome drumming. Anyone who can play Phil like this is alright by me!!!! 5 * s.

  • very nice job and great attention to detail . So close to the original it would be great to see you on an acc. set !

  • Nice! So nice... The dynamics of your playing.. It's just perfect. That's something I must master myself. Just see my few videos, and You'll know what I mean. =)

  • Thanks a lot for your comment!!

I just watched all of your videos; excellent playing, very straight (much more than myself) and relaxed! I cannot really judge about your full dynamics range since the songs you uploaded rock pretty hard, but it seemed all good to me : nice punches and inflexions when they are needed. Keep up the good work!!

  • Wow! You played that PERFECTLY!

  • bellissima canzone eseguita egregiamente, anchio la suono alla batteria, bellissima, ma nn sono bravo come te...complimenti

  • Nice work, mate. Amazing how good these electronic kits have gotten in recent years, huh?

  • Thank you very much! :-D

Yeah, we're pretty far from the pentagonal pads with TR-808-like sound! But I must admit I'm somewhat disappointed with the sounds on this one (Yamaha DTXtreme IIs); there isn't much pre-processed sounds, like a real kit recorded in studio. The "natural" sounds don't have much kick and there's a lot of similar-sounding electronic sounds... Anyway it's a blast for the price, and I can still run it through EZDrummer on my PC. :-)

  • But like you say, it's a blast for the price. But when price is no object, the Roland V-Drums really give you some bang for your buck. Those even feel great to play.

  • that was great by the sounds of things that was spot on.
