@foojice101 that same ammendment also states that it should not condemn the religion. I don't know it word for word but I know it's meaning. In other words, the government should not get involved in religion
"It's actions like these that make the people wonder what the President really believes."
Well, I know for one that he believes in the importance of upholding the FUCKING CONSTITUTION. Doesn't America have this thing that says "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion", meaning that Obama can't endorse Christianity?
C'mon, I'm not even American and I know this shit. Why can't Faux get their own country's constitution through their heads?
Obama probably is an atheist or at least fairly agnostic. So what? Personally this makes me happier about him, but really it shouldn't matter whether the President is a hard atheist or an evangelical because the US SHOULD have a proper seperation of church and state. I "pray" for the day when a politicians religion or lack of it will have as much baring as their eye colour when it comes to their popular suitability to govern.

I agree with you, chances are, he's Atheist or Deist.......I wish we could question a majority of politicians religious views, unfortunately, they make it very clear through their political ideologies. ......... Check out this video- "Obama admits he is a Muslim"
i think this deep south moron should check out his hard earned constitutional right to shut up about politics and get back to the fine old tradition of begging for money from his congregation.
Furthermore, the reason the president does not release official decrees for religious holidays is that he feels the constitutional separation of church and state forbids him from using his public office to endorse a specific religion (and he is correct).
The commentators in this video and others in this thread are very misleading (and misinformed). To say the President Obama did not recognize Easter publicly is patently false. He took his family to a public church for the occasion. This obviously constitutes public recognition. Now, to say that he releases official decrees of other religions is also patently false. He has never done that, and he certainly does not fast during Ramadan or practice other religious traditions. You're flat wrong.
A last someone with an intelligent argument, you are right someone needs to oppose him ,his inability to lead & his policies are hurting the country's morale not to mention the economy, but what really gets me is the dishonesty, he won by making false claims he couldnt deliver on, & misled many to believe he shared fundamental values based on being christian when now we see thats not the case;and if he lies about his faith he is most capable of lying about anything!

It always surprises me (though really it shouldn't, as it happens far too often) how people who proclaim to be Christians of strong faith, have an obsessive and pathological neediness to see their "faith," constantly, everywhere, and always validated and reiterated by others. "We need prayer back in schools", "we need the ten commandments posted in public buildings" etc. Does that not belie the flimsiness of these beliefs? How reality encroaches so fatally upon them otherwise?

CALL YOU STATE GOVERNMENT OFFICAL OR E-MAIL HIM/HER AND TELL THEM THAT FOX IS NOT news, FOX IS OPINION, AND SHOULD BE FORCED TO CALL IT SELF AS SUCH!!!
In England we have politicians who are atheists. Nick Clegg, the Deputy Prime Minister is an atheist. We English do not worry whether our politicians believe in any god or not.
The word democrat is a problem wih evangelical christians. I hope he gets elected a second time and then announces he is an atheist. That would be friggin sweet. We need an atheist president who wont pander to any religion but puts America first. We dont need christians leading us every election.
@darthringus As a republican myself I could not agree with you more. Christians should not lead us at all. Their delusional fuckwits who believe in an invisible sadistic tyrant as their lord and savior. How about oh I don't know an atheist president like you said?
I dont think obama is a believer in any religion. the golden rule is the only rule that everyone agrees on and it truely has no religious undertones or ties. It is also the only rule one needs to follow to become a social creature. The only reason religion ever even came into existence is to control a population through fear. It's good to see more and more people turning toward truth and science. It's the only way we can evolve away from theism and into the inevitable scientific age of man
The bible is a Hebrew-Israelite book, not a Christian book. The bible says to keep the Passover, theres no mention of Easter or Christmas. Hebrew-Israelites were theatened to keep Easter. The bible also says that the Sabbath is Friday sundown to Saturday sundown, not Sunday. It has all been twisted. In general, Christianity might just be the greatest deception of mankind in known history. The idea that a man can be God is silly, Jesus might have been the "son" of God, but a human is not God.
Grow up people, why does it matter what he believe in. Are they saying that people of other faiths that are not Christians unfit to be the President of the USA....oh yarh... that's totally what freedom of religion is all about. Good work on proclaiming a 'free' nation idiots.
@mitchellbresser, Christianity is a sham, but whats important is that people arn't suppressing others. Freedom of religion we generally have, but it must promote the same God, if you will, or collective good.
@DeadFishFactory, Easter is a Sham, the bible, a Hebrew-Israelite book says to keep the Sabbath. Earth day at least promotes Physical well-being, but without the spiritual, the physical is hell.
@naomikislasi I don't think he's an atheist. I think he's one of those nominal Christians who aren't really convinced completely with their religion but they have been brought up with the beliefs and feel comfortable with keeping those beliefs and obviously wants to keep them as it is expedient to him politically. Criticism of religion is almost always primarily targeted at fundamentalism. People confuse this for criticizing all religion in general.
@RuinSonic, Obama is just a big player in the game, so to speak. He's not as stupid as you might think. Christianity is a Sham, just look at how powerless it is, in general. The bible is a Hebrew-Israelite book which in in contradiction to alot of Christian teachings. And even the bible might not be revealing everything, unless you study it very deeply and look into its origins. Religion, in general, is a history of the truth as it was once percieved. Once you know that somethings false...
What kind of moronic pinheads judges people on their faith? I couldn't care less if Obama believed in flying cows as long as he does his job as a President and has honest intentions to help people.
@geniusjas87 That's highly theoretical. If someone believed in flying cows I'd have to investigate what other nonsense they believe before trusting them. There are plenty of reasonable religious people who just have a soft spot when it comes to religion. But it's rare to find a reasonable fundamentalist.
@RuinSonic, the fact is, no human can be trusted and its often the "trustful" ones that will get you.
Ideally, if something is false, once its known as such, it should be disregarded, not held onto for emmotional reasons. And thats something, not someone, people arn't the problem, its what we sometimes do that is.
C'mon, FOX News stirred controversy over how Obama ate his hamburger (something about Dijon mustard), so who the hell cares what they have to say about Obama at this point?
OOORRR maybe he just the original tradition of separating church and state. The wolly is a fairytale believing nutjob why is his ridiculous view even important?...oh its FOX news.
OOORRR maybe he just the original tradition of separating church and state. The wolly is a fairlytale believing nutjob why is his ridiculous view even important?...oh its FOX news.
2:40 and 2:50 Did he really just mock and laugh at Earth day?
Seriously, Earth Day > any religious occasion. Sorry religious people, but saving the Earth for future generations is far more important than worshiping something that only applies to your own group - and only *might* help the people inside your own group as well.
such bigotry, who cares what the president really believes!!! Can he do the job of presidency or not?? thats the only important question!! secretly I think he's atheist
@jjcrazi I guarentee he is an athiest. He says he gets scripture on his blackberry and does stupid shit just to try to win people over who only vote christian and not for any real issues, but he will never win this people over so he just makes a fool out of himself.
@cyberkreig, both arn't as important as spirituality. Without the spiritual, the physical is hell. But Easter is a sham and always was. Before I get attacked by Christians, allow me to explain. The bible (a Hebrew-Israelite book) says to keep the Passover, there is no mention of Easter. Easter was created by the big, political church of the time (might have been the Vatican). Those who kept Passover and didn't celebrate Easter were threatened by death. Whether Passover is true or not, Idk.
Most powerful man in the world does not acknowledge the anniversary of someone supposedly being raised from the dead ages ago? Surely we should be worrying if this actually did happen?
@blahblahreadabook i've always suspected obama to be an atheist/agnostic.. but living in a country with 80% of the population are christian, he has to act like he's religious... i highly doubt that most of these politicians are that religious at all... the voters are and they see it as the easiest way to get votes so they play with it.
The pastor and any other religious leader for that matter is going to find a problem if the President doesn't speak on behalf of their personal faith. I thought we had Separation of Church and State. I'm tired of Freedom of Religion, turning into Freedom to be Christian. Any religion that seeks political power and influence is the real enemy of America. The Thomas Jefferson and the other FF would be rolling in their graves.
Ideally, if the President is going to issue religious proclamations at all, he should do it for all major religions in America. Is there an atheist or agnostic holiday (I feel I should know the latter)? Well, that, too. That way, he will upset the fewest people, as only religious or irreligious supremacists ("My faith/lack of faith is better than yours!") would really care in that situation. It's simply good politics.
However, doesn't issuing White House proclamations of Islamic holidays (if such is true), holding an Easter dinner, et cetera kind of ruin that angle? (Incidentally, his own private worship doesn't really reflect on the White House or his position as president, so that doesn't really matter.
Also, I see people arguing that Dubya and Reagan didn't release decrees.Well, keep in mind that they probably didn't do it for other religions either, making it essentially less of an "issue".
Did President Obama, in fact, release proclamations for Islamic holidays?
If so, source please.
Furthermore, if he did, why not release one for Easter as well? Not only would it affirm his Christianity for those who think it matters, it would also be politically expedient for the same reasons. I see people here arguing that the government should remain secular, a la Jefferson, Bill of Rights, et cetera. Well, I agree.
The Easter Bunny is a pagan symbol. Therefore, Fox news endorses paganism. Therefore, Fox news is anti-christian.
What's next, "President Obama doesn't believe in Santa Claus: Big government Grinch trying to steal Christmas from our children"
Seriously Fox, do your fucking jobs as a fake news organization and stop worrying about whether or not the president endorses your fairy tale holidays. The only reason people "celebrate" Easter is for the candy.
the leaders' views should remain inconspicuous. Sepration of church and state anyone ? how can that be achieved if americans vote based off of religious motives rather than political ones.
I have something Fox News might be interested in covering:
I have an official decree that I'm about to urinate. Whew, I said it. I know that many of my "non-followers" will claim that I'm a pee lover and discriminate against fecal matter all together, but oh well.
I mean seriously, can we take up people's time with anything less significant in our world than an official decree of Easter?
The resurrection of Jesus never happened, so who cares, if he makes a proclamation or not, its his policies that should matter, not what religion he believes in.
We see here the reason, why America is being considered as much more religious as it actually is: Social pressure. If you don't believe, the presidential approval ratings get low, if you believe, you get boni. That has anything to do with the actions, but with beliefs. What is always said? Actions are more important than beliefs...
First amendment says: "congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion..." Thomas Jefferson says: "...thus building a wall of separation between Church and State." Those quotes, among others, are the foundation of the country. So why is Fox so eager no to follow the laws and guidelines on which the United States is built? Oh yeah, right! Because Fox is so unbelievably biased, no one can take these news seriously. Christopher Hitchens says: "Mr Jefferson, build up that wall."
I can't believe something as pointless and trivial as this was actually given so much air time on the news, I feel sorry for atheists, agnostics and freethinkers in the USA especially if you guys have to put up with this type of nonsense all the time. In Australia, New Zealand and most of Europe nobody would give a shit if the national political leader did not give an easter proclamation, in fact probably nobody would notice. Surely there are more important things to worry about.
@ornitorrinco01 Fox News isn't real news,it's well documented that they twist facts to try to get people to vote Republican. You don't know half of the stupid shit we Ameicans have had to put up with because of Fox, its embarrasing. Search for teabaggers check out LiberalViewers channel and you will see what I mean. An Australian actually started the network and he has been quoted as saying that he can't believe that some people actually believe alot of the things they broadcast.
@ornitorrinco01 Well put, in fact it's worse than that. In America we have a separation of Church and State that demagogues on the Right are constantly threatening to undermine. People like this slimy pastor put a "loyalty test' to progressive politicians. I'd argue that that argument is worse than atavistic -- it's cynical and traitorous to the Constitution.
@MEpianist, seperation of church and state was only in a letter sent to someone by Thomas Jefferson (I think it was him, don't quote me on that). But regardless, anything that is found to be powerless/false, should be disregarded. Whether it be something in a religion or anything else. We, as a Americans should want that.
@ornitorrinco01 I know you probably don't care but...for the fox news channel its not really about him being religious its about turning conservatives(who are mostly Christians) against the democrats. If you are from Australia you need to apologize for two things Vegemite and Rupert Murdoch. just kidding...
No "Easter proclamation"!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!???? Oh God no!!! It's almost as though the government isn't adopting an official religion and acknowledging its holidays!!! Noooooooooo!!!!!
This disgusting non-story is not news. It is pure political propaganda and an attempt to convince even more ignorant racist Americans that Obama is anti-christian and may be a closeted Muslim. I guess now that we know he gave the order to take out Osama bin Laden Fox will argue this is even more proof Obama is a Muslim because as we all know it's Muslims who mostly kill other Muslims. F*ck Fox News they are a joke.
@emaildoctor "...now that we know he gave the order to take out Osama bin Laden Fox will argue this is even more proof Obama is a Muslim because as we all know it's Muslims who mostly kill other Muslims"
The theory I've heard from right-wing christian nuts is that Obama is a member of the Muslim brotherhood, and they want to keep him in the white house...thus the OBL killing is just a political ploy on behalf of Muslim terrorists. AND also a cover for his kenyan citizenship. I shit you not.
On the one hand, we have a redneck preacher as racist as they come, and on the other hand we have a 'news' station obsessed with whether the president spends enough time talking about freakin' MYTHOLOGY.
Yes pastor, you heard it right, America is NOT a Christian nation (despite it being inconvenient for your busines..* ahem * divine soul saving endeavor). It reaffirms my love of the secular when I see pious men of the cloth intentionally mislead the country's viewers.
@foojice101 that same ammendment also states that it should not condemn the religion. I don't know it word for word but I know it's meaning. In other words, the government should not get involved in religion

Good work on proclaiming a 'free' nation idiots.

naomikislasi 8 months ago
@naomikislasi I don't think he's an atheist. I think he's one of those nominal Christians who aren't really convinced completely with their religion but they have been brought up with the beliefs and feel comfortable with keeping those beliefs and obviously wants to keep them as it is expedient to him politically. Criticism of religion is almost always primarily targeted at fundamentalism. People confuse this for criticizing all religion in general.
RuinSonic 8 months ago
@RuinSonic, Obama is just a big player in the game, so to speak. He's not as stupid as you might think. Christianity is a Sham, just look at how powerless it is, in general. The bible is a Hebrew-Israelite book which in in contradiction to alot of Christian teachings. And even the bible might not be revealing everything, unless you study it very deeply and look into its origins. Religion, in general, is a history of the truth as it was once percieved. Once you know that somethings false...

What kind of moronic pinheads judges people on their faith? I couldn't care less if Obama believed in flying cows as long as he does his job as a President and has honest intentions to help people.
geniusjas87 8 months ago
@geniusjas87 That's highly theoretical. If someone believed in flying cows I'd have to investigate what other nonsense they believe before trusting them. There are plenty of reasonable religious people who just have a soft spot when it comes to religion. But it's rare to find a reasonable fundamentalist.
RuinSonic 8 months ago
@RuinSonic, the fact is, no human can be trusted and its often the "trustful" ones that will get you.
Ideally, if something is false, once its known as such, it should be disregarded, not held onto for emmotional reasons. And thats something, not someone, people arn't the problem, its what we sometimes do that is.

*from last comment*
Ideally, if the President is going to issue religious proclamations at all, he should do it for all major religions in America. Is there an atheist or agnostic holiday (I feel I should know the latter)? Well, that, too. That way, he will upset the fewest people, as only religious or irreligious supremacists ("My faith/lack of faith is better than yours!") would really care in that situation. It's simply good politics.
*Continued in next comment*
sableyeman 9 months ago
However, doesn't issuing White House proclamations of Islamic holidays (if such is true), holding an Easter dinner, et cetera kind of ruin that angle? (Incidentally, his own private worship doesn't really reflect on the White House or his position as president, so that doesn't really matter.
Also, I see people arguing that Dubya and Reagan didn't release decrees.Well, keep in mind that they probably didn't do it for other religions either, making it essentially less of an "issue".
*next*
sableyeman 9 months ago
Okay, innocent question here:
Did President Obama, in fact, release proclamations for Islamic holidays?
If so, source please.
Furthermore, if he did, why not release one for Easter as well? Not only would it affirm his Christianity for those who think it matters, it would also be politically expedient for the same reasons. I see people here arguing that the government should remain secular, a la Jefferson, Bill of Rights, et cetera. Well, I agree.
*continued in next comment*

I mean seriously, can we take up people's time with anything less significant in our world than an official decree of Easter?
Have a great day all!

The resurrection of Jesus never happened, so who cares, if he makes a proclamation or not, its his policies that should matter, not what religion he believes in.
Akira89M 9 months ago

An Australian actually started the network and he has been quoted as saying that he can't believe that some people actually believe alot of the things they broadcast.
Blackfriday420 9 months ago
@ornitorrinco01 Well put, in fact it's worse than that. In America we have a separation of Church and State that demagogues on the Right are constantly threatening to undermine. People like this slimy pastor put a "loyalty test' to progressive politicians. I'd argue that that argument is worse than atavistic -- it's cynical and traitorous to the Constitution.

@MEpianist, seperation of church and state was only in a letter sent to someone by Thomas Jefferson (I think it was him, don't quote me on that).
