If you lsten to her and get these to replace your apple ear buds you'll be disappointed. You need a nice setup worth two or more times the price of the headphones themselves for the best results, otherwise it's like buying an A8 without an engine, classy as hell but no way you can drive it.
Little do next to none of you know, even with an adapter you couldn't use these with any portable device as it would rape the battery. These are meant for recording equipment in a studio.
What is a good par of around ear headphones for rock? i.e. Led zeppelin, guns n roses, Ozzy Osbourne, Aerosmith, velvet revolver, iron maiden, pantera, please answer cuz i don't know what to get. im trying to decide between the Bose ae2 or the sennheiser hd 558. any other suggestions would be great!
What I disliked was her. She didn't say anything that made me think she knew what she was talking about at all. I have a couple of pair of high end headphones as I use them for work. This review would not have made me want to get the 800 if it wasn't for the fact that I already own a pair of the HD650's and love them.
@strongmousee She probably knows more about headphones than you do. For starters, she actually heard these headphones, unlike you, and 99% of morons who drool over videos like these and talk shit, even though they're clueless.
I also love SILVER PLATED OXYGEN FREE COPPER, i just couldnt live without my damn SILVER PLATED OXYGEN FREE COPPER, lets say it again, SILVER PLATED OXYGEN FREE COPPER
Great choice for your iPod, I think fucking not. These headphones need to be DRIVEN, they need an AMP. Not a shitty iPod. They are HIGH IMPEDANCE headphones. I would have expected oxygen free copper on my pair of crappy MDR-V150s. And a "proper, proper audiophile jack," fucking hell, she doesn't even know what it is called. Its a 1/4" jack. And tbh, she would think a pair of Beats by Dr. Dre would sound amazing, which they don't.
Dear sale representative, stop speaking that fast. It is very annoying. However, I should say that your choice of right audophile headphone is great and no question to ask. Peace.
I hate it when people who know nothing about a product get to review it. It's like those ditsy fashionista girls who pretend to review computer games because it's assumed that the audience actually gives a fuck who's speaking.
what's the point of getting headphones if they're not closed? If not closed then I would just rather use my small ipod ones given free with the purchase of the ipod.
@Delc0 Because the acoustics of a sound are altered in a closed headphone setup. These headphones are meant for production work where you need the most accurate acoustics possible.
I find myself unable to stop watching this now. Lol While entertaining, I think she's doing a great job. Seriously, name one girl who can speak anything about audio and actually care what she's talking about. She's at least trying to make it exciting and gives you some first glance impressions. It's obviously not an audiophile review and it's not meant to be.
@phillipiscool123 those headphones are designed mainly for serious audio equipment, not ipods. Try listening to advanced CD players or turntables and you will stop listening to any portable device. Unless you will find one cool portable device. But that would COOOOST you.
holy shit!!! 1000 pounds is 1508 us dollars and they do not noise cancel! for that much there should be a gps chip in them so that way when somebody steals you can find them... omg that chick is dumb in case you have a spare 1.5 g's layin around jump from a 10 dollar pair of head phones to ones that cost as much as a used car... these things have to make travel through time for that much.
I'd rather spend those money on a single good reference speaker. Music is not supposed to be heard through cans. Music is supposed to rip your torso apart, literally leave you breathless, make you bounce.
The only place is could see these headphones outperforming a proper (read again PROPER) set of speakers is in the house of an audiophile who's husband/wife doesn't let him/her listen to music loud.
Also, using these for iPods etc. is just fucking stupid, seriously.
@piepgras "Rip your torso apart, literally leave you breathless". You really have no clue what you're talking about. These headphones arent made to be particularly loud, they're made for the flawless quality.
@piepgras You obviously know NOTHING about headphones and how to listen to music, do you? People who buy such headphones look for quality, not loudness. If i would want to hear a loud rumble where you are deafened by the sheer sound, i would go to a rock concert and stand by the speakers... This on the other hand provides pure pleasure of re-discovering your music, hearing EVERY note there is to the track in pure perfection. And iPod cant really power a 500+ ohm headset...So get your facts right
@viciokas1993 Well if you knew anything about sound in general then you'd know that louder music = better listening experience. Read up on your homework. And perfection of -sound- is not achieved through headphones, it's achieved by professional equipment like Adam, Mackie, Genelec etc. As I said previously: to get the entire spectrum of sound you can't just pick and choose - You need the entire experience.
With these ridiculous headphones you are picking AND choosing.
@piepgras You see, extreme loudness creates distortion, no matter how good the speakers or headphones are. The diaphragm just cant move so much any more thus creating small distortions, which you may or may not hear, but these distortions affect all the frequencies, and the quality of sound is lost. Also, you cant get great quality with 10k$ sound system and 2$ earphones...
@viciokas1993 I can't seem to remember myself mentioning extreme loudness which makes that point irrelevant. What I'm saying is once you pass the magical 100dB marker you end up considerably improving the sound quality and these headphones despite the heavy price tag and the flawless perception at lower amplitudes simply cannot deliver the goods at the spl which is favored most among musicians, producers and audiophiles alike.
@piepgras Well, I will stop arguing about this, because it is a thing of taste. Anyway, I think you should know that listening to sound above 100dB is bad for your hearing!
Any audiophile with half a brain (no offense) would know that 100dB+ would damage your ears unless it is over extremely quickly (gunshot) and even then a lifetime of that would wreck them.
If a headphone CAN reach these highs then it is typically a good sign that at levels that are loud without damage there wont be much distortion.
@CazzBlock Im not starting this conversation all over again. Let me listen to my music the way I like it and I'll leave you with these pathetic headphones.
The only place is could see these headphones outperforming a proper (read again PROPER) set of speakers is in the house of an audiophile who's husband/wife doesn't let him/her listen to music loud.
they seem to be great for listening to music but im sorry i wouldnt pay 1000 + for headphones that dont look nice also. Looks like u literally have the radio taped to your ear.. they look horrible..
It's funny that some of the highest sound quality devices - our ears - have one of the least flat frequency response curves, when talking of the subjective loudness. Our ears are much louder around the mid-highs than on bass and the very highest treble, so most of our speakers feed much more power to the bass.
I wonder what these headphones sound like. They are £1000, so I think we are past the point of diminishing returns, but they are Sennheiser, who I trust not to inflate the price as far as say Bose -cough- Goldmund -cough-. Also I heard some people say they were 300 ohms, which means that they don't draw enough power from portable equipment to make them loud (unless the sensitivity is rediculously high)
Alright, what do they sound like, that's the question. I guess we'll never know through shitty youtube sound quality. Although with good headphones, the sound quality description reads like a romance novel.
Seems like every single review says that. "Well if you're looking for some headphones to replace those ipod earphones, these are a great choice." It's pretty dumb.
@JimMayBeInSexTown Exactly. Bunch of gossip shallow ignorants who dont know a shit about fine music and HD headphones and only rely on the price and the look to say "wow, those are astonishing headphones" yeah... a child would have guessed, for such a price. Now ask her whats the main difference in the sound between electrostats and dynamics, you'll get a big interrogation face lol. Dumb cunts.
@BadButNotSad I actually would love to see someone that can plug a 6.3 jack into an ipod(without an adapter of course) lool this video is such a fail...
If I had to live with a chick like that (I wouldn't of course) I would shoot myself after a couple of hours of out life together or maybe strangle her.
ANNOYS is not the word here, it's much more serious. I could only take first minute of this clip!
is it too much to ask for a headphone wire that REMOVES? seriously, even if you care for them, after months and months of simple use, they do become worn, it's just how it goes. or even if you have some kind of accident, at least you know your not Fucked, with a capital F.
There was another company that had headphones like that.
to me, THAT would make these headphones worth the money, too risky of an investment, when numerous things can damage the wire. Especially for $1700
Uhm, Bose is just marketing hype with crappy-sounding headphones. If you want real headphones, get Sennheiser, Grado, Denon, Koss, Beyerdynamic, Audio-Technica products. They are professional headphone manufacturers, and the HD 800 is the best of them all.
yes, yes they are, they are ALOT better than bose. its not even a matter of taste, its just way better. no offence, but even comparing them is pretty silly. its like a notebook and a high end gaming pc. one is hype but unquestionably not as good
haha i love the last line that she said, " If you have a thousand pounds lying around, and you got tired of your ibuds, you might like this" haha nice. But i dont think ipod itself can power up this baby, you will require a decent desktop amp~
The only way to match the sound quality of these with speakers would be priced around $125,000 (that's my guesstimate, and from what I've heard). Compared to these, Bose is crap.
If you lsten to her and get these to replace your apple ear buds you'll be disappointed. You need a nice setup worth two or more times the price of the headphones themselves for the best results, otherwise it's like buying an A8 without an engine, classy as hell but no way you can drive it.

The lowly iPod (or any portable player)cannot drive these properly, you must get a battery operated headphone amp.
And why waste these gems on a iPod, these deserve a Headroom Max and a SACD source.
BTW check my clips, sadly I have these as well as a bunch of other flagship cans.
For portable devices you better get JH13's or UE11...or Shure 530. These will cut the noise and sound great driven from portable devices.

Now ask her whats the main difference in the sound between electrostats and dynamics, you'll get a big interrogation face lol. Dumb cunts.

Ipod buds? I agree. That's like saying - If you're looking for some speakers to replace your Bush mini system, then try these £15000 Klipsch....

Especially for $1700
1981z28camaro 2 years ago
The cable DOES detach, but Sennheiser's marketing materials and videos certainly don't make that obvious.
cmakaioz 2 years ago
ok cool, that's good to know :-) (Biggest issue for me) lol
1981z28camaro 2 years ago
Ummmm, it does lol. I'm assuming you mean you can remove the wire from where it connects to the headphones?
I've got the HD 650 and you can do it with those so I'm 100% sure you would be able to with these 800's as well.
d0md0mt0mt0m 2 years ago
lol, ok well good :-)

I'd let her violate me with the audiophile jack.

are these better than bose
tonythegreat5 2 years ago
Uhm, Bose is just marketing hype with crappy-sounding headphones. If you want real headphones, get Sennheiser, Grado, Denon, Koss, Beyerdynamic, Audio-Technica products. They are professional headphone manufacturers, and the HD 800 is the best of them all.

Sennheiser Orpheus is the best model in the world :)
Siwy012 2 years ago
yes, yes they are, they are ALOT better than bose. its not even a matter of taste, its just way better. no offence, but even comparing them is pretty silly. its like a notebook and a high end gaming pc. one is hype but unquestionably not as good

haha i love the last line that she said, " If you have a thousand pounds lying around, and you got tired of your ibuds, you might like this" haha nice. But i dont think ipod itself can power up this baby, you will require a decent desktop amp~

i rather get some bose surround sound system than that
videogamer54 2 years ago
The only way to match the sound quality of these with speakers would be priced around $125,000 (that's my guesstimate, and from what I've heard). Compared to these, Bose is crap.
gir1258 2 years ago 2
my HD201's are better than my bros bose lol

Of course, because Senn's are quality and Bose are overpriced crap.

Anyone listening to $1300+ headphones off of an an unamped iPod jack probably is missing the point, methinks.

And that's not even considering that a huge 1/4" to 1/8" adapter coming out of an iPod would look kinda dumb.
