Great choice for your iPod, I think fucking not. These headphones need to be DRIVEN, they need an AMP. Not a shitty iPod. They are HIGH IMPEDANCE headphones. I would have expected oxygen free copper on my pair of crappy MDR-V150s. And a "proper, proper audiophile jack," fucking hell, she doesn't even know what it is called. Its a 1/4" jack. And tbh, she would think a pair of Beats by Dr. Dre would sound amazing, which they don't.

And perfection of -sound- is not achieved through headphones, it's achieved by professional equipment like Adam, Mackie, Genelec etc. As I said previously: to get the entire spectrum of sound you can't just pick and choose - You need the entire experience.

The diaphragm just cant move so much any more thus creating small distortions, which you may or may not hear, but these distortions affect all the frequencies, and the quality of sound is lost. Also, you cant get great quality with 10k$ sound system and 2$ earphones...

What I'm saying is once you pass the magical 100dB marker you end up considerably improving the sound quality and these headphones despite the heavy price tag and the flawless perception at lower amplitudes simply cannot deliver the goods at the spl which is favored most among musicians, producers and audiophiles alike.

Any audiophile with half a brain (no offense) would know that 100dB+ would damage your ears unless it is over extremely quickly (gunshot) and even then a lifetime of that would wreck them.

If a headphone CAN reach these highs then it is typically a good sign that at levels that are loud without damage there wont be much distortion.

They are £1000, so I think we are past the point of diminishing returns, but they are Sennheiser, who I trust not to inflate the price as far as say Bose -cough- Goldmund -cough-. Also I heard some people say they were 300 ohms, which means that they don't draw enough power from portable equipment to make them loud (unless the sensitivity is rediculously high)

And why waste these gems on a iPod, these deserve a Headroom Max and a SACD source.

BTW check my clips, sadly I have these as well as a bunch of other flagship cans.

For portable devices you better get JH13's or UE11...or Shure 530. These will cut the noise and sound great driven from portable devices.
