finally none of this expensive light emollient silk screening business! we's poor folk who want to make and sell enough t-shirts to call it a real day job!
Plastisol inks are the most durable and can be easily purchased online. You will need to cure the ink at about 320 degrees F using an oven or flash cure unit.
Screens are usually an aluminum frame with polyester (some times nylon) fabric stretched tightly and evenly over the frame. There are different mesh counts (read frequency of holes) that can vary the way the ink prints.
screen printing allows you to duplicate the exact image many times over and over again perfectly....think tee shirts. stencling, you are doing over a stencil and it may not be the same everytime.
the screen will last longer than the stencil, so you can mass produce. but if it's just for one personal shirt the stencil will work and it won't cost as much.
yeah it won't come out when you wash it- it stains your clothes. I've used it to paint directly on clothes before too but then it get's too thick and makes the fabric stiff but if you silk screen it on it turns out perfect. it shows up better than some of the expensive silk screening ink i've bought.
i just get the house paint at Lowe's and for even cheaper paint they have discounts on paint that people mix and then don't want. You can use any kind of paint that stains your clothes though. the method is the same as using the ink- use the squeegee and don't run it too many times to where it bleeds out (not staying in the lines of the stencil) and don't do it too less to where it doesn't cover all the area of the design.
Hmm I thought that photo paper to iron on designs was the cheap and easy way to go but now I'm goin to search for that video with the mod podge technique.
Corinne don't listen to people who knock your style, expressing your own style makes the world go round...unless you wear skinny jeans with the croch down to your knees that's just unforgivable....hehe, keep up the great work, I love your show. X Ab
More about screen printing, yay, good! But this tutorial in particular, meh... Left me with a lot more questions than answers..."get a screen" or "apply the ink" okay, but where do I find it, how much is it, can I make it myself?
You pointed to other resources in a blindingly fast afterward, different ways to DIY this that are more plausible for the average viewer, and I intend to check them out...that's good. But methinks this particular video was not a very useful episode.
to me the whole idea of screen printing is being able to add so much detail with one screen because of the photo emultion its a cool idea but its just like stenciling which is a lot of work
Aside from the Lego earrings (which were great,) couldn't Matt have found some even worse examples of rediculous pomo-wanking crap from Etsy to highlight?
I'd love a new sewing machine... but I'm just now starting to use the one that my parents got me 3 years ago for christmas. I was never really into sewing until recently.
I usually can deal with sound being out of sync, but the sound/video being out of sync in this video is REDICULOUS. =/ Could you re-upload this video?

omg I love your new haircut Corinne its really cute. could you please please make a video on how to make earrings and necklaces please I really want to make some of my own
i use "speedball fabric screen printing ink" available at pretty much every art supply store. you can buy those screens from and art supply store as well. or try danceerindance's method for making them. you can also use an old frame and some tightly woven mesh fabric like an old curtain. xoxox c
i've always wanted to try screen printing but have been a little scared to try. i havn't seen this contact paper method. looks cool may have to try it.
Pretty cool video. This looks like some fun printing to do. I'd love to spend more time doing prints like these. Screenprinting rules! ☠
