@asleskig From the question's description it sounds like The Echo is wired up as an insert and not an FX send from the mixer. If that's true, the answer is the wet-dry knob. Turn that way down and your drum beat will come through and then you'll just get that little blend of echo when you press the trig button. Alternatively, add The Echo from the mixer's effects sends and just dial in the amount of echo you want. Också, Jag kan bara lite svenska. Jag är Amerikansk. :)
Whenever I try to use the Echo while I'm playing either a real instrument or on my midi keyboard, I keep getting a lag from when I play the note, to when I hear the note in the software, I don't have the issue when I'm not using the Echo...I'll play a key or pluck a string, then a second or two later, I'll hear it. Is there a setting I'm missing?
@caffiney33 Have you adjusted the Wet/Dry blend down? The Echo, when used as an insert effect, loads as 100% wet meaning you'll only hear the echoes and not the original sound but adjusting the wet/dry knob. When used in a mixer aux send, the knob can stay at 100% and the blend is achieve by how much you turn up the aux knob.
@VitalisCarbone There is a button on the Echo that says "sync." If you press that in, then it will use the tempo information in your song to give you delay times which are musical divisions of a beat. If you unclick it, then you set the time in milliseconds.
@krypto1339 No. It's not the same as Dry/Wet. That just blends the balance between dry and wet as a volume relationship. This knob makes the delay and the dry signal interact and change the sound based on the position of the roll knob. It's hard to describe if you haven't tried it but it's nothing at all like a dry wet knob. Those fills, variations, and glitches wouldn't sound anything like that using a dry wet knob.
Are there any in depth tutorials anywhere with regard to applying trigger effects?I noticed a brief explanation that was provided for Mac users here, but what about for Windows users?
I've had Reason 4 for years,but I just began using Reason 6 today & I'm lost & fairly overwhelmed.
Ohh and also i cant hear my drums when im in Trigger mode.. i have to press the trigger button to hear the drums and then they all get the echo.. even if i do only press the trigger button exactly on time for it to hit my snare it wont record it :(
How do i make a lane for the echo in the sequencer?!?! i cant record the trigger mode thingy on only my snare in the drum sequence i got going :S when i load a neptune the lane appears.. but not with the Echo
@Aytac4Ever This goes for everything in Reason - hold down the option key (on a mac) and click on the button or knob you want to automate in the sequencer. A lane will appear in the sequencer for that device and that parameter.
I'm sorry if this question is too obvious but I'm totally new to this... so how do I connect the "theEcho" to the track I'm doing??? (by the way, I have an M-Audio keyboard which is not the newest model and when I go to the preferences menu I can't make the software find it... it just won't even if I play any MIDI key it doesn't detect it)
@beatb4heat No Reason 6 will open projects from Reason and Record of any version. Everything is fully backwards compatible. If the project won't open, then some other issue is going on. Sounds like something to ask our support guys about.
Is there a possibility for a frequency visualizer device in future versions of Reason (6.5?) ? I think it would help a lot of producers that don't have absolute hearing. Also I know we could just use an external app but I was thinking about setting a vis for every audio track separately, so in case one instrument (e.g. low frequency bassline) would overpower the track, it would be more indicative what's the problem and where. Thanks for your time :)
@NoqturnePL Nothing's ever out of the question. We are always considering what devices and features would best help people make more and better music. Spectrum Analyzers are definitely useful for people who like to get surgical in their mixing and frequency analysis. Some people do this in Reason already with the BV512 vocoder set up as a spectrum analyzer. If you search our forums for more info, you can download combinators people have made. Thanks for the feature suggestion!

granted i always watch these for the educational value, but man the songs you guys use just intice me soo much. like every single time, amazing tracks. love it!
@ElectrizCity We definitely have some dubstep fans in the office but I personally don't make dubstep and I LOVE using the new devices for the music I make... which is primarily acoustic instruments with a some electronic parts used as enhancements. Pulveriser is wonderful at making instruments sound organic and real. The Echo is total vintage delay heaven. And Alligator adds texture to strings or other basic sounds. But yeah... the dubstep guys will love these, not to mention the new patches!
I seriously wish I had money. If I did, I'd buy this instantly. It'd take a long time to get used to the format and all, but I'm a quick learner. :D TIME TO GET A JOB!
That roll mode looks more fun than a human should be allowed to have. Does a lot of the glitchy stuff I used to depend on experimental plug-ins to achieve.
I feel the slightly lame humour you're employing in these videos is a bit unneccessary for a product demo, and also makes me think your current target market is 14 year olds.
@Crowmusicuk Do you watch these videos regularly? Propellerheads has always had a sense of humor about their products. Maybe it's not your cup of tea, but I think that you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar. Meaning, most folks would rather learn a little (or a lot) about a product and have a little laugh(even if it's a little cheesy) than learn a bunch and have it be dry and humorless. I applaud them and other manufacturers, like Mackie, who realize the value of humor.
@btdub73 good point, not to mention all of the fun stuff they hide in the equipment, such as the screws remove on the subtractor and red rum for the Redrum Machine for the shinning or scream 4 after the movie and on and on. so lightin up Mr. Crow. im just saying....
@Crowmusicuk Piss off douche bag! What's wrong with having a laugh every once and awhile? The video was still totally informative and I am nothing but excited about this. Reason was way overdue for an awesome delay.
I wish you had demonstrated a 'slow down' effect. Only issue I see is that the delay has to be turned all the way up during the entire track just so you can turn the delay down to zero when you want to enact the slow down.
Was hoping I was thinking about the device wrong and the demo would show me. Trying to get the slow down effect that is in NI-The Finger.

@PropellerheadSW i've just become love struck by Little Jinder. amazing artist, i haven't left her soundcloud for the past 3 hours ! i think i need to fly to sweeden
@PropellerheadSW I have been using reason since 2.5 i have reason 5 now definately want this monster but is their upgrade option for reason 5 owners or it's only for reason/record duo owners?
@JONDASZ You can definitely upgrade from Reason 5 to Reason 6. We have a boxed upgrade you can get at your local store in whatever country you're in or via our webshop.
At first I was skeptical about the Echo, but seeing it in action I must say that it'll save time and processing power (1 set of a beat repeater is fine, but in a full track where there are let's say 5 sets for every instrument + reverb + delays + etc, it can get a bit 'laggy'). Now just make a new version of Recycle that'll have more editing functions and you have my wallet.
All I need to do is play my banjo through this and add some purple satin cases to my hypoallergenic pillows and the ladies will no longer resist my moves.
@ethericloopz Well, nevermind that anyway, The Echo seems to be yet another great one added to the already powerful system of Reason. Love Propellerhead! :]
@PropellerheadSW That sounds great! I'm sure a lot of people will be happy to have a synth like that in Reason.
See, that's why I love Reason the most, many other software solutions are generally great but the only one who can do it in one shot is Reason. People resample things 3+ times to get that sound in other programs while Reason has a single patch containing the whole hierarchy set in a chain and it works damn well too!
Carry on, people, you're Number One to me, that's for sure :]
Ahh Frank you're my hero!! I love these micro tutorials and now... I might just HAVE to upgrade to Reason 6... Annoyingly I'd love to get the Balance interface too but seems they dont want to sell a standalone version.
@b92seven The big difference is the way the signals interact with eachother when the slider is part-way across. It's hard to explain until you play with it but dry/wet just fades the delay in and out. The roll slider actually changes the signal that's being delayed by blending the loop side with the original side. Those drum variations I show wouldn't be possible with the dry wet knob. The "fills" that are created happen because of the blending of both signals interacting with each other.
@PropellerheadSW exactly ! it's being faded like a volume knob or cross fader, letting in part of each signal instead of just a quick cut, think of it like the difference between automating a volume fader over time and just hitting a mute button
@anosoumusictube Mattias, clearly by "awesome song" he's referring to the blatant U2 ripoff I did!!! ;) Kidding. I've just updated the description with the song info for anyone else who wonders.
Good stuff! I kind of couldn't afford Reason 6 when I bought it, but I'm so glad that I did!

Don't get me wrong, I like this one used in the video, just kinda scared from those wobble wobble popular styles :D

@ethericloopz Well, nevermind that anyway, The Echo seems to be yet another great one added to the already powerful system of Reason. Love Propellerhead! :]

@ethericloopz Definitely will be! /Mattias

Annoyingly I'd love to get the Balance interface too but seems they dont want to sell a standalone version.

so what is the difference between the Roll function and Dry/Wet knob ???????
b92seven 5 months ago
@b92seven The big difference is the way the signals interact with eachother when the slider is part-way across. It's hard to explain until you play with it but dry/wet just fades the delay in and out. The roll slider actually changes the signal that's being delayed by blending the loop side with the original side. Those drum variations I show wouldn't be possible with the dry wet knob. The "fills" that are created happen because of the blending of both signals interacting with each other.

@PropellerheadSW exactly ! it's being faded like a volume knob or cross fader, letting in part of each signal instead of just a quick cut, think of it like the difference between automating a volume fader over time and just hitting a mute button

pandasecksi 5 months ago
@pandasecksi It's a remix of "Everything" by Little Jinder that I made for this video. :)

@anosoumusictube Mattias, clearly by "awesome song" he's referring to the blatant U2 ripoff I did!!! ;) Kidding. I've just updated the description with the song info for anyone else who wonders.
