When you buy the laptop with vista already installed does it come with the disk? I don't remember it having one... I know my mac did though... I actually just really want to use mods in minecraft but they aren't compatible with mac osx 5.x. So I figured id try putting a vista VM on it. I think I may just pony up the 30 dollars for snow leopard lol I Favorited and liked the video btw
So, i have vista on my PC, i can just use the option when you run it and it downloads everything from that laptop to the mac? Can you select what it does and doesn't download? Because i just want the os really... and after you do this, can you download files while running the VM and it only save to the VM?
Hey man nice video, As I go to university I can get a free copy of Winodows 7 to download. However it is a .exe file. Can I use this file to set up my virtual machine on my mac? Or do I need a .iso Thanks
@weshakeandbake I'm sure it will work with VM Ware Fusion fine. I've only ever installed using the Windows 7 CD but having said that, it has a Batch file that then calls up the Setup.exe anyway, so I see no reason why it wouldn't work.
ive recently got 'vmware fusion' but it's always saying it cannot find my bootcamp even tho, on my windows side of my macbook it shows on 'my computer' that theres a boot camp drive and a mac drive :/
but after making a search on my mac side it cant find bootcamp or any existence of windows?
would you be able to solve this problem at all?
would be greatly appreciated so i can get onto using vmware fusion
@Nixxsta I've never bothered with bringing the Bootcamp over to Fusion. without seeing exactly what you're doing its hard to say. You may want to have a look at the Fusion FAQ and Support on their site. Have you tried installing Windows under VMware Fusion? I have a tutorial on this.
@Nixxsta I assume you're running the current version of VMWare Fusion? is that correct? One of my friends used VMWare to import the Bootcamp into a VMWare image and the deleted the bootcamp partition and it works well. I don't recall him having any problems at all. So have you tried the latest version of VMWare?
So VM ware Fusion and Bootcamp are basically the same thing essentially - allowing you to boot up another OS, right? Can you explain the difference between them?
@jbs4life With Bootcamp you are installing Windows on another partition. So you can either start up as a PC or Mac. This works well for gaming. The difference with VMware Fusion is you are running Windows while still running a MacOSx, so you don't have to re-boot at all. You can even share folders, switch between etc. Does that make sense? I hope I've explained it
@BMSWEB Makes perfect sense, this is how I thought it worked. So VM ware is running the OS inside of another OS while bootcamp is a different OS boot entirely. Is VM ware fairly easy to use and to install a OS?
@jbs4life Yes Exactly, VMware has cool features like Unity mode which make the Windows app just run like Mac Software on your system. The other advantage is if you're running dual monitors you could move your windows on to one and Max OSx on the other. Its really a nice way to work.
For example, start my macbook and I may need to do something on windows and I just start up windows and while its booting up, I'm still using the Mac. No need for a PC ever!

@ITzJuhstReFLeX If you only want the OS, then just use the Vista or Win7 Installation Disc

MarioAnimalCrossing 8 months ago
@MarioAnimalCrossing I've never tried lower than XP. I know a friend who is running 98

@BMSWEB Ok, I was just asking because I wanted to run these in a multi booted virtual machine if I get a Mac:
Windows 2000 Professional SP4
Windows XP Home Edition SP3
Ubuntu Natty Narwhal

@MarioAnimalCrossing You shouldn't have a problem at all.
