  • LOL, my aunt and I saw those birds in the pet store in Guangzhou and my aunt tried to get it to speak How r u in Chinese. But only pecks stuff XD

  • Give it the fucken food!!!!!!!

  • WOW!!!! They're so "gwaii" :)

  • so cute !!!

  • what a smart bird :-) !

  • hahaha so cutee

  • Did it say happy new year??

  • @ToRiHale : Yes, Kung Hei Fat Choi & happy new year! =)

  • look my bird he speak too

  • Thanks for watching. =) I'm from Hong Kong.

  • cool! I'm guessing you're from Guangdong?

  • Oh my god. It's more than imitation. They're actually answering. Its voice is cute.

Are their voices different based on their sex as well?

  • soooo cool!!!!

How long did it take to learn it??

  • I bought it when it was a little baby. From 6th month onwards, it started to speak the 1st sentence - my Chinese name. =) It's learning speed was qt. fast, it can learn a new sentence in several weeks. And the most suprising thing was that, sometimes it can speak some sentences/ phases that we have never taught it! We even didn't speak that sentence much in our daily conversation.... we all wondered how come it learnt it.....!!?? Amazing.....

  • Ah! that little bird is so cute! My mom thought it was a child speaking and when I told her that it was a bird, she did not believe me. xD

You (and your family?) did a wonderful job in training the bird. =)

  • I understand cantonese cause I speak it. I'm happy that I can speak two types of languages.

  • I seen a amazing bird like this in Kowloon while I was visiting my grandma in HK. Know what bird it is?

I was looking at the bird and my grandma's friend walked past and asked if i wanted to go eat dim sum with her. Before i even got the chance to answer the bird said "mm hui" and then the bird followed up with "ngor sik bao jor" Which fucking shocked me lol. It was like having a conversation with the person. and the lady was like "pfft I wasn't asking you!" It was 1998. I think it's dead now

  • I read all the past comments and realized that not many people knew about Hill Mynah. Hill Mynahs are superb in mimicking human speech with human like clarity and can even out do African Greys. You must get a baby Mynah bcoz an older one may not want to learn how to talk. They normally stop learning when they reach 2 years old unlike parrots who will learn till they die.

  • Superb bird! I will be getting one soon.

  • wow a bird talking Gwang Tung Wa

  • wow amasing

  • Awesome!

Your birds speak wonderful Cantonese. <3

  • First it is so amazing and unbelivable.

Sorry about your lost. He will be singing happily over in the rainbow bridge.

    Thank you for sharing.

  • thats cool! im glad someone else knows about rainbow bridge. I miss my bird too :(... he use to sing Mozart. haha :D

  • Oh god, that is amazing.

  • some ignorant people and haters on here. Nevermind that. Beautiful birds littlemango! They sound like sai lo jai :D

  • Hi parrotloveruk & ChantalDOremi, Thanks for your comments! Regret to tell you that one of them passed away 2 months ago.... We've raised it for over 10 yrs.... my family was really sad.... but it will live in our mind forever. The other one (which didn't talk much in the video) is still living healthily.

  • Aww sorry to hear that. Very cute bird there. My Grandpa in hongkong has a free flighted one but died shortly after he passed away which was sad.

  • Hi there, this video is from 2 years ago, how are your lovely birds doing right now?

My mynah Okkie talks Dutch, he will be 12 years old this june. Bye!

  • i also had that kind of bird, she ate 4x a day. she knows how to "meow", bark, laugh, and say your stink! hahaha! i love birds... they are so great!

  • Your birds are absolutely charming! Not to mention talented! ;D

  • Cute birds! I wish I had one though...

So how did you guys train them? My uncle had one that is similar to the bird in your video but she can't talk none!

  • Actually they learn by themselves when you repeat and repeat certain phases and sentences in front of them. =) (so one of them can imitate the sound of my phone and even the microwave!) For training them to answer quetions,we give them their favourite food once they speak the right words we expect. After repeating, they turn out understand that this answer match that question. =)

  • They'll do anything for food. They're starving!

  • Apart from their normal food, we always feed them other food as well. Eg. we feed them bread when we have breakfast, feed them vegetable or boiled meat when having lunch/ dinner. In fact they're eating all the day and we're just worrying that they're overweight..... The food we're feeding in the video are their favorite. Delicious but with higher fat and so we don't give them so frequently, and that's why they're so crazy for that in the video.

  • I'm sorry.

  • no wonder theyre talking... so YOU see a food bowl in there?? no. you dont. cuz there ISNT ONE. thats mean. and the other one is like ILL TALK ILL TALK GIMME FOOOOHOOOHOOOOOOOOD... they look like tucans... O-?

  • Each of them have two bowls in the cage, one at the left and one at the right. One for food and one for water, and are always full.

  • You can clearly see atleast 1 bowl in the cage. Use your eyes moron.

  • 'who wants to eat?'

    "I wanna eat!"

    'happy what? happy what?'

    "happy new year!!"

    'are you good?'

    "I'm good!"

    they're so smart and adorable!!

  • what is that bird?

  • You are so funny!

  • shut up idiot!

  • Agreed! ;)

  • @DragonToe84 stfu dutch piece ofs hit hope your family die DIU!

  • you racist, intolerant SCUM. all humans kill. We're all the same. Just because some of us have different customs and values doesn't mean we're not humans. and how can you judge an entire race as a group? of what descent are you? how would you like it if I just gave you a label and treated you as such? YOU are not human. you are a disgrace. An absolute embarrassment to the entire human population and a disappointment to society and all the years and toil invested to better our world.

  • thank you

  • @DaharkazAngel how do you know you live wit them you aussie mother fucker ?

  • Ya i think that these are mynahs. theres some jumping around in my backyard right now. like not as pets.

  • this is cantonese no chinese(mandarin)..

  • Cantonese is a Chinese dialect which means this is Chinese

  • The birds are so clever. Birds that are confined to small empty cages will eventually die early from causes related to neuroses and boredom. Think of being confined for 24 hours they have the same feeling about it as you. I hope you let them at least fly around sometimes in an open room. You could build them a small aviary in a separate room also.

  • thank you.

  • ohh damn mma dad had the same bird back in the days when he was a kid fukk he was sayin these birds speak the clearest out of all bird

  • thats true i had 2 of them.. and i also said always they are the best talkers if u teach them.. they learn best in their first 2years of life.. when they grow up they dont learn so much anymore..But they shouldnt be put in such tiny cages like in the video.. its cruel.. they need much more space

  • KONG HEI TAI LO

  • Owner: Yes, yes, very clever!

  • Wow! Thanks a lot for the clear translation! ^_^

  • Owner: No..no.. brother. Where's brother? Mynah: Brother! Owner: Ah-ha, yes. Daddy is going to give you something to eat, yes? Mynah: Yes (please!) Owner: Are you greedy? Mynah: It's yummy! Owner: Are you greedy? Yes? Mynah: Yes (I am)! Owner: OK, who wants to eat? Who wants to eat? Mynah: It's very tasty! Owner: Who wants to eat? Mynah: I want to eat! Owner: OK... Gar-Gar: Sing us a song? Owner: Sing a song for daddy. Sing a song first, go on... Mynah: #la la la#
  • TRANSLATION OF VIDEO:- Owner: Have you asked for me? Mynah: Daddy Owner: And who else? Is your mum is here? Mynah: Daddy Owner: How about mummy? Has she arrived? Mynah: Mummy! Owner: Gar-Gar is here. You haven't asked for her? Mynah: Gar-Gar! Gar-Gar: Mm... good (boy). Owner: And who else? How about brother? Mynah: Thank you! Owner: Thank you?! Ask for brother? Mynah: Daddy!
  • I prefer Cantonese... Szechuan is too spicy...

    Mmmmmmmm... bird... yummy....

  • wow the bird sound like a little kid, what kind of bird is it?

  • They're "mynah". =) A kind of clever bird who can talk a lot, and mine are probably the cleverest among all.... ^_^

  • These birds are called beo (pronounced bayo) and yes they are related to the common Indian mynah bird who can also learn to speak. I met my first beo in Switzerland and he spoke to me like a little old man. I have loved them ever since.

  • Beo's are incredible, mine is 11 years old and he's quite intelligent. Het talks a lot and when he wants something he knows how to make that clear to me! The thing is that beo's actually can speak very well, even better than parrots some people told me. They speak with the voice of the person they hear the most. If someone is interested in a Dutch speaking beo, check mine. I really love these 2 Chinese speaking beo's! They're very cute!

  • aahhaa wonder what the other one says. Diu Nay Lo Mo? ahahha One polite and the other rude:P

Oh and my bird is named Gigi as well

  • The chinese language is mainly made up of the languages Mandarin and Cantonese. Mandarin is the most popular language in the world. However in the southern region of China + Hong Kong they speak cantonese, the one i speak. My mother's brother speaks Taishan another language similar to Cantonese. Cantonese pronounce sweet as 'team', Taishan say 'heem'. Hilarious i say.

  • Mandarin and Cantonese are the top 2 spoken sorry. /there are other languages.

  • Oh really? Mandarin is of course most Chinese speak, as it is the official language in all provinces and all schools. But I didn't notice that Cantonese's the secound... =)

  • thousands of caucasians (especially americans) have this misconception that cantonese is chinese. quite irritating. it doesn't kill to be specific now does it? hahahaha. okay maybe im just biased cos im hokkien

  • I don't think it's just Americans, I believe people who have very little knowledge about languages form this point of view.

  • cantonese. not chinese

  • Cantonese is a Chinese dialect! =)

  • Which is the one that keeps on whisteling or making that high sound? They are funny birds. When I first saw them, I thought they were family of the "blackbird", because they look alike minus the light coloured spots, but it is not true. I wish we had Myna birds here. I would love to have one. Thank you for sharing this video with us, I enjoy watching it everytime! n__n

  • lol i thought a little girl was talking! thats really cool! i saw those before in china and they spoke as well.

  • trust me they talk more then parrot

  • Yes, I also think they're somewhat cleverer than parrot. =)

  • This is great! Please can you post some more of these videos! What are their names?

  • The one talked a lot is called "Guai-Guai" (乖乖) He can say his own name! =) The other one is "Gigi", named by her old host. (I "adopted" her from a friend)

  • WOW that bird knows more than me just by speaking a different langue. Now I feel stupider 0_o COOL BIRD!!

  • Thanks for watching. =) Yup, it's cool.... ^_^

  • I have a cat and a chihuahua. Unfortunately they can't talk, but I still love them. I might get some birds later this year, I miss having birds.

  • Very impressive! Your mynas are very beautiful, I wish them and your family good luck.

  • Thanks! =) Do you keep any pets?

  • Thoso cages are to small ! that is so MEAN ! hget them bigger cages NOW!

  • datz so strange but rili awesum!

  • Thanks for watching! =) Really amazing, right?

  • haha cool!!! i have one of those in Indonesia!

They call it a Burung Beo!!! They are vicious though so you cant handle them!!!

  • yes this is chinese, cantonese. Owner asks him about where his mum is brother etc, then he asks the bird who wants to eat, bird replies i do i do! then the bird says chinese lucky phrases, finally the owner asks are you being a good boy, bird replies yes i am being polite. Very fluent if you ask me lol

  • Hi Triad8! Thanks for your translation! =) It's really amazing, right? I have another myna which can say even more interesting sentences. But it doesn't answer question. ^_^ By the way, where are u from?

  • this is not chinese

  • It's speaking in Cantonese. =) A Chinese dialect.

  • your fucking stupid... this is cantonese, one of many dialects thats chinese. dumb fuck T.T

  • WTF THAT's INSANE! >< so cool!

  • That's an amazing video, littlemango! Thanks for sharing it with us. I've taken a movie of a similar species of bird in the Philippines and this bird was not only talking but laughing too. Have a look!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_FmklexPWc

  • Oh yes, that's the same species of mine. =) And it's laughter are v. funny! Actually my bird also laughs sometimes.... also in my voice.... it's a bit "horrible" when I heard it the 1st time.... =P

  • thats so kool never new other birds bsides parrots cood talk 2 n sum parrots dun even talk at all thats 1 smart bird

  • yes, it's a myna =)

  • Nope, its a mynah bird

  • Is that a miner bird???

  • wow that was really cool...I loved that

  • Although they are speaking chinese, i am pretty sure they are in Vietnam, NOt in China. The owner is probably chinese vietnamese. This kind of bird is very clever. Yet you have to nurture an hatchling bird so that later you can teach them how to speak. this bird is called "NHONG" in vietnamese. After one year, the bird becomes accustomed to any sound it hears and somehow it will repeat later on.

  • Hi Kobeya20. I'm a Chinese born and grown up in Hong Kong, and I've never been to Vietnam. =) Wondering why you think so? There're lots of these birds in Vietnam??

  • No this is probably in Hong Kong. I seen alot of people with this bird, I was in hk a few years ago and i saw one that was actually talking. A auntie asked me did i wanna go out to yum cha and the bird replyed "no i dont want to go, i already ate" in cantonese.... i have always been wondering what bird i saw. Well now i know ^_^ and i doubt anyone in vietnam can afford a bird like this lmao

  • I have worked on many different species of birds, and have seen and taken care of many talking birds such as amazon parrots and greater and lesser indian hill mynahs, am familiar with chinese languages but can't actually speak or understand them, I do not wish to be a skeptic, probably your mynah can talk BUT I am not totally convinced. Perhaps if you can do another video with less background yakking? Was that a videophone you used? it's so blurry.

  • Thanks for your comment. =) Yes, the video was taken by a videophone only. It's taken just for fun and for my own record, so actually I don't really care if others are convinced or not. =P Anyway, if I have better equipment and can produce a better video next time, I'll surely let you know. ^_^

  • THats crazy how the bird learns the accents. Being american I never really thought about a bird speaking an asian language/dialect/accent. Cool!

  • Thanks for watching. =) I just repeated the sentences in front of it many times. But actually it's a really clever bird that some of the sentences are just learnt by itself! ie. there're some sentences that we didn't really teach it before! It just remembered and follow what it heard from us. Really amazing, right? =)

  • Can somebody please tell me what the bird is saying in English? My Cantonese is terrible! The bird speaks more than me!

  • It knows how to address all my family members, it can say some greeting sentences for Chinese New Year, and it can even answer some simple questions! =)

  • I can't believe the bird is answering your questions!

  • Yes, it is answering! =) That's why I called it a "super" talking bird. Actually I don't think it really understand what we asked, but it knows that which sentence should be followed by which question! And it also understand that when it say sth. related to food, it can earn some food. So it's qt. amazing that it usually automatically says sth. like "delicious!", "I want to eat", "any for me?" when we're having meals. ^_^

  • it seems fake to me. it sounds like a girl is saying it at a distance or something...

  • It's TURE, I swear. ^_^ It's just because it is ME who taught it, and so its voice is exactly like mine. And actually I have said several sentences in the video, which made it more confusing. =) But most of the sentences you heard in the video WAS spoken by the bird! We're just lucky that we picked a super clever bird, and actually we've spent much time and patient to teach it. ^_^

  • Fuck That Fucking LOL

    from A FUCKING Danish

  • it dosn't sound like the bird is talking

  • Yes, since its voice the same as mine. =) Moreover, as I mentioned, there's 1 second discrepancy between the image and the sound of the video, which make it strange and seems untrue. =P Anything I can do to make the quality of the video better?

  • uhhh i dont know... *runs away*

  • It's cool that it usually barely opens it's beak to speak. It looks closed.

  • Yes, but it also depends on the words it speaks. Its beak opens widely when it says "Mamie". ^_^ Moreover, there's around 1 second's discrepancies between the video and the sound when the video is uploaded here. In the original file, it sounds more true and natural. =)

  • The bird is so expressive!

  • ho duk yee ah!

    (so cute in cantonese! XD)

  • lol

  • Thanks for watching! ^_^ Is it amazing?

  • yes, if i say lol, it is
