@ChrissieBana Donnie Darko was originally going to be a direct-to-video release. If that would have happened, then the majoirty of DD fans would never had seen the film at all. Drew believed in the film (the story / acting / meaning) so much, that she took the risk of giving it a full release on her own production company Flower Films.
On her acting in the film, i think she did a great job. All the characters in DD are strange in some way. It's a weird, quirky film. That's part of it's charm.
