  • My heart tore in half at the end when his father cried for him. I can watch any terrible thing on the internet un-phased, but I could never bring myself to watch this movie a second time.

  • I wish this song lasted forever..

  • What a beautiful voice he has. It's deep and warm, i love his emotion. Fits the movie perfectly too.

By the way you guys, i really dont mean to bother you or anything, but i did a ukulele cover of this song. So if you got 3 minutes or so, check it out if you want, its Mathieu Saikaly in the responses (or on my channel). I really tried to put my heart in it, for its a song i particularly appreciate. Anyway, that would be great :). Thanks!!

  • I HAVE BEEN INSPIRED CHRISTOPHER 1 DAY I WILL LIVE THE LIFE OF CHRISTOPHER JOHNSON MCANDLESS ! IM GOING TO LEAVE MY SELF IN THE WOODS FOR 1 MONTH AND ENJOY LIFE WITHOUT ELECTRONICS

  • @shankletproductions wow! one whole month? that'll teach yourself

  • @shankletproductions

if i lived next to you i would join you. Chris was only regreted he didnt share his Happiness.

I´ve made a journey like that but with 20 firends wen i was in Erasmus period living in Slovenia.

    Im from Portugal...

  • @Frixix If you lived next door we could share that happiness with others but sadly we dont so i am going to do it

  • I was watching Eddie Veddar videos with my 23 month old son sitting on my lap today, When we came to this song, he looked at me, nestled his head into the corner of my chest and fell right to sleep. Beautiful....thank you Eddie

  • @yogi0421 thats the kind of power he imbues to his music ;)

  • communism or anarchy? is there anything in between?

  • I stopped caring about death after this...

  • Check out my tutorial on how to play this song!

  • I don't think there's something wrong with discussing the picture. This is video, after all, not audio. The person who made this video could have put in a photo from the album, the movie, or of Vedder himself, but he chose this picture. If you don't want to discuss the pic, than don't. But other people can. I agree btw that the picture doesn't really represent the living in solitude that the song is about.

  • Fuck Society!

  • Could we stop thinking on the pic and focus on the music?

  • Comment removed

  • @MrJ314 i dont like the picture either! could think of 1000 better ones who this song.

  • Its never to late to feel alive!

  • we got 24 idiots!!!!

  • This is truly a beautiful song.

  • Crime: Rape

    Victim: Replay Button

Christopher Johnson McCandless (Alexander Supertramp) is my hero. RIP

  • This song reminds me of my autistic son. escpesally the lines leave it to me as i find away to be........ i knew all the rules but the rules did not know me. Great song with so maney meanings

  • Christopher Johnson McCandless.

    RIP

  • probably the best fingerpicking song

  • These lyrics speak to me. I feel them. This song makes you feel strong

  • "...Everyone I come across in cages they bought..."

  • Thank you Eddie Vedder for clearly writing about "me" in entirety ...summed up poignantly in this song... you is a genius you realize

  • playing this for Leigh Bowery.... the wildest, intelligent and beautiful transvestite statue of david....

goy beorge is a fukin' idiot - NIcola & Trojan are both very sweet people - Eminem is lost is all busy trying to find his own inner homo with "nikki rots-a-crotch" ???... oi... i'm staying in Canada with the igloos & eskimos

  • someone, please tell me where i can find 21st music as good as this

  • he died the day i was born.

  • Yes man I been searching through all the into the wild songs on YouTube and this is the one I wanted to find! I'm watchin into the wild in my film class and this is like my fav song of the movie

  • Every time i listen to this it makes me think of things i've yet to do yet to achieve and look back on things i've done and the decisions i've made and im at peace with the choices. It truly creates a sense of peace and a longing and stiring for a sense of footlooseness to discover what you haven't done and whats waiting out there for you. Does any one else sense this?

  • feel home, when i hear this song! All my missed opportunities and desires seem to hurt not so much any more, because life feels often like its flashing by and you wanna follow but something in yourself says that that you should follow your heart and this shows in to an other direction! The world "outside" is not important when you listen to the music of your own soul!

  • ahh love this one

  • When I watched the film and heard this song I instantly recognised it, only realising then that my brother had been playing it for a long while at home... who better to help tell the story of Christopher Johnson McCandless than Eddie Vedder himself?

  • you make your own meaning dude. I think of it as "do things that matter" or "invest in what is important" But you could take it as "consider all consequences"

  • RANTRANTRANTrantrantRaNtRaNtrAnTrAnT... hee hee

    cheers n' peace all

  • Simplemente Magistral!!!!!

  • @wolfomarmota é nao é? =)

  • I knew all the rules but the rules didnot know me............. Guarenteed.... WOW..Into the wild is a movie to be watched!!

  • canzone strepitosa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • sounds alot like "just breathe"

  • wonderful song! I hope you'll like my cover too!

  • The art of travel is to deviate from one's plans.

  • May we all strive to find the peace and tranquility in our souls that Chris saught when he set out in to the deep and dark wilderness of Alaska.

  • why is there a picture of a guy on a horse

  • What touched me most about the below post, was...."Nirvana is most real when alone" Namste

  • Amazing ideas and ideals, this man had. This song is my favorite from the movie. I want to live my life as he did, roaming the world, living as free as possible.

  • Happiness Is Only Real When Shared

  • rip Evan Tanner

  • this summer when i go camping i'm going to sit around the fire with my family and listen to this soundtrack!

  • Sounds like dust in the wind by kansas.

  • -This is my favorite quote, whether it is used in an extremists situation or just the everyday person, being reminded of it everyday and actually applying it to life is, in my opinion, probably one of the greatest lesons we can teach ourselves....

  • Love this song

  • Reckax, it is actually about hating society in relativity to McCandless. He was largely influenced by Thoreau's work and other Transcendentalist writings, including the fact he studied Contemporary African Issues and the such. Also, in his writings he claimed he would decide to maybe never come back, he enjoyed the nomadic life style he was enduring.

As inspiring as I think Chris is, Richard Proenneke was 100x more inspiring, read One Man's Wilderness. He was in AK the same time Chris was.

  • is the movie the same as the book? did they change anything?

  • The movie wasnt as detailed as the book {like every movie taken from a book}, but did reveal alot..and Emile looked alot like Chris as well...I personally think they did an excellent job

  • its not all about hating society, remember he was planning on coming back and writing about his travels. what drove him was his fucked up parents at first. then it was just more about the adventure of freedom, no taxes, bills, naggin women, ect..

  • 'I knew all the rules but the rules did not know me

    Guaranteed...'

Love this song, and it goes perfectly with them film. Just..brilliant.

  • Somehow these songs suit so well for this movie - good songs also to listen from cd but better in this movie :)

  • This is the perfect song for Into the Wild. Eddie Vedder keeps on amazing me with ever album he releases, he is a true artist.

  • if you cant understand what the movie and the music of the movie is all about, then maybe u just cant relate...this song really made me emotional and everytime i see the movie is on i cant resisit watching it...

  • 467,647 , A nice number indeed

    DUHHH

  • I cant believe I just saw this movie, the fact that this movie hasnt been seen by everyone makes me hate SOCIETY!!!!

  • okay, you are right about the "Everybody should see this movie" thing, but its a little over the line saying that that is the thing that makes you hate society, makes no sense man.

  • 455,135 viewer :)

  • cool since its such a round number

  • awesome!!!!

  • Christopher Johnson McCandless Is My Hero

  • You got your passion and you've got your pride. Dream on but don't imagine it'll all come true. Slow down you crazy child. You can't be everything you want to be before your time. Don't you know that only fools are satisfied?

  • hoyl shit, where did you get that?

  • THE best song of this album and soundtrack.

  • Eddie Vedder é sensacional...não existe cantor melhor, não existe banda melhor que Pearl Jam !

  • "Quite-Spam-Marked"

  • Happiness is most powerful when shared

Nirvana is most real when alone

The goal is to stay out of others pockets achieve rock bottom and find Nirvana

With great pride comes great fall

Seek thanks in waking up. Its interesting enough to be alive

Strive for love, not to make others envy you

Work smart not hard. (uncommon in society)

    Be inspirational, not envied

  • Good thinking. I like what you posted very very very much.

  • I dont mean this to be in any way depressive or negative....I just believe you need balance for a healthy mental physical and spiritual life. Some of the comments you made that I did not include is simply because I totally agree with them.

Happiness is most powerful when shared, but happiness found in oneself is most elevating.

Nirvana is most real when alone, but to reach it you must extinct individual consciousness and connect with the world.

  • With great pride comes great fall, yet without pride there is no personal growth

Seek thanks in waking up. Its interesting enough to be alive to quote captain Barbosa (weak i know) dying is a day worth living for death is as important-

Be inspirational, not envied, with the irony being that inspiration leads to envy.

  • As you could tell some of these were my own and some were copy right mat. You disagreed with the bible quote "With great pride comes great fall" Right on dude!! that dam bible has flaws as many famous quotes have flaws. For instance: "no pain no gain" is only true to a certain extant, then it becomes wear and tear.

  • @Gilmourist

I think it's - Happiness only real when shared.

  • @wesdirectly I added some thought to the original happiness quote; it may only make sense to me and how I see things. I also figured: you can't know you have reached nirvana if at that instant, a friend is there to cheer you up.

  • @Gilmourist what dyou mean by work smart

  • @webtexintotheblue invest in what is important

  • @Gilmourist crap man, thanks a lot for that comment dare i say, you made my day, and my life :)

  • @Gilmourist Are you an author? Cos that's a terribly pwerful insight

  • @Gilmourist who said this?

  • @Gilmourist Seek thanks in waking up. It's interesting enough to be alive...... Those words spoke to me the loudest, thank you. I have a very life alternating illness that makes me curse waking up every morning. It really effects my social life because I just can't get outta bed. But your right, it is interesting just to be alive. I will be thankful tomorrow morning when I push myself to wake and I will smile.
