  • boring. cheesy. mediocre. how very CBC

  • Thank you holly cole, whoever you are, for always reminding me to clean my glasses

  • beautiful song :)

    wonderful voice

  • I normally don't like covers or remakes, but this one is remarkable. They didn't try to copy Johnny Nash, They also didn't over embellish it with too many audio tracks that can't be duplicated on a stage. It was incredibly well done.

  • Beautiful version of this song! Love it.

  • listening to this on CBC radio right now. had to search for it and hear it again :)

  • @CoryTube2011

It's definitely that kind of performance. This version, along with the original to some extent, always takes me to a melancholy place.

  • I am no musician in any way-- when i try to sing both cats and dogs run :( but this version Holly you extend words such as blue and bright into intense volumes one can't interpret-- you have exceeded your first cd by bounds :)

  • wow!!

  • Love Holly and her trio from this era - try her CD of Tom Waits called Temptation for some real brilliance!

  • I wonder if this was written because the guy went through racisism. Nash was an african dude in the South, he probably felt the hatred, if not as an adult as a youngster. Maybe that is why he wrote bad feelings

  • @donjz777 you know, that really makes sense.

  • This lady, and group, are top of the line. WHY is she not more well known?

  • she can see clearly, but she frowns way to much!

  • Perfect!

  • Love how her voice is powerfully present without resorting to `screaming` like so often is heard in todays so called music

  • This is such a positive song and Holly makes it so special...

  • Bravo! Bravo! I've spent the last hour cruising youtube listening to many very good versions of this song and this is one of my favorites. Spectacular! The vocals, piano and bass are simply out standing.

  • @ole9421

Yes I agree. There is something very special about this version. At its essense is how powerful music can be.

  • @KissFanSite Yes, music can be so very powerful. I can't believe I've never heard of Holly before now. Oh well it's never too late as they say. Thanks for turning me on to her.

  • @ole9421

Very good! I'd start with her 1993 release "Don't Smoke in Bed", then "Blame It On My Youth". Classic Holly!

  • I never quite understood why Holly didn't become more accepted an popular than she was. Maybe she was a little ahead of her time; or maybe a little behind.

No matter, she is a special and unique interpreter of songs.

  • holly's legs are endless

  • I don't know why people say that Beautiful singers are ugly, but you hear that about all of those with Singing voices. I think in the reverse, that Lovely voice makes them all the more beautiful, not like Holly needed that to enhance Her good looks, she's stunning well before she opens her mouth.

Somewhat envious of all that great CA talent, must be nice to go local and see Margo Timmins, Holly, Celine, Rush...

  • Great voice, great version, Yet I knew people who thought she's ugly. Can't see it myself. Looks quite stunning to me!!!

  • @armeny925 Two of my brothers thought she's ugly. I can't figure that out either. Seductive bedroom eyes always do it for me. She's a great singer too. Some people cannot account for taste and sad to say that my brothers are two of them!

  • Marvelous on all accounts - brings back memories of when I saw her and her musicians perform at The Flamingo on Salter Street in Halifax, NS.

  • is it just my imagination or does she look stoned?...

  • @ItalianChefPasquale

Holly has the clearest eyes I've Ever Seen!

    Rock on!

  • @ItalianChefPasquale Stoned? No, though she often has a sleepy, or "bedroom" look in her eyes. I've met her, and she's very sexy.

Thanks for posting this. I've seen the Holly Cole Trio live several times, and they are consummate musicians.

  • This would be perfect had it not all the other synth/orchestra stuff mixed in from 1:30 on. That really spoils it - check out her live 1995 performances in a real trio for comparison. Still great but not what it could be.

  • I can see all obstacles in my way!!!

  • best cover of this song. absolutely amazing!

the only other cover that comes remotely close is Jeff Buckley's Halleluja.

    check it out!

  • holly cole is beautiful maple leaf foods is not and winnipeg is just plain old ugly, they used me as a guinea pig they had listeria concerns and everyday they were given me all i could eat meat products on the factory floor, at first i thought it was cuz they wuz kind, but then i learned they had listeria(or whatever) concerns but they kept askin me all the time if i was ever feelin sick or anythin. as for the peg they should change that old whores name to babylon the great

  • Well her version will put you to sleep. *Yawn*

  • Best cover of this song ever.

  • @bradsmom06 I agree

  • One day the dark cloud that Management at my place of work at 870 Lagimodiere Blvd., has surrounded me with, will be gone. I will not let rest the they kept the police blind to the fact they are protecting three people from prosecution...and tried FIVE times to shut me up by forcing me to sign a "paper" - a company gag order. I did not sign it. The Production Manager said "We have to protect them. They've come so far!"

  • Beautiful tribute! Thanks so much for posting, made my own please check it! Thanks, more love!

  • 名曲だぁね☆

  • i luv this video! is there anywhere i can find a karaoke version of THIS song?? thx

  • I am 56 and this is the first song I thought of. I feel like my life is just beginning!

  • Johnny Nash did this soooo much better.

  • I like her voice, it clear as the song..!!!!! miss you my ...ojo...

  • AMEN!

  • 4 9 5 6 6 7 9 4 4 5 7 3 6 4 4 3 9 8 6

  • the key change at 3:04 has absolutely given me more courage so many times i can't even begin to verbalize it. amazing....

i originally heard this version of this song during a drag queens performance in jersey....oddly enough. moved me to find it and buy it. have played the cd so many times i've had to replace it....twice! i defy you not to love it.

  • This version has given me chills for at least 15 years. So masterfully understated until she lets it rip at 3:02. Ooooo you kill me Holly.

  • GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    jbENTO

  • Listen to this on +25K$ system and eye dare you not to cry

  • I love this version !!!!

  • not the best version but i like her voice

  • It´s best version ever!! Simply love it..

  • I love Holly Cole Trio for this song. My Mummy got me tickets to a live show with back stage passes when I was a teen. She was such a lovely woman. I felt so bad because I couldn't stop crying when I met her. I kept telling her how amazing she was and apologizing for crying so much lol.

  • Love the video....a new fan

  • i was singing this at school every day after i had sung a few lines my friends joind in. it was really cool cause we all knew the song. it was like a... crap forgot wat its called... a canon one person started the another person joinedin at least i think it's called a canon but any way it was really cool :) love her voice shes my idol

  • Ya she is the best...not a household name but we know

  • She sets the the mood

  • Best interpretation ever!!!

  • Love Holly Cole - amazing voice

  • BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • Love this song...great version...so mellow...beautiful...thank you

  • Még mindig tuti :)))

  • amazing interpretation of this song...peacebewell

  • I've listened to so many versions of this number and NOTHING gets inside me like this interpretation. It took me forever to synchronize the vocals with that bass rhythm on my guitar... the décalage drove me crazy but it was worth learning!

  • Listen at 1.52...her voice is perfectly matched to the horn

  • very very interesting!

  • It's good for testing your audio-system....

  • This version takes this song and brings it to life! Love it!

  • Have seen her at numerous Christmas shows in Toronto, she and her band are fantastic.

  • ese idiota bajista se hace como que está tocando muy virtuosamente.

es un canción cuien por ciento POP!!

    MEDIOCRE

  • Wow...what a full sound for just voice, piano, bass. Holly's voice soars here.

    Great performance.

  • maravilhoso com esse arranjo. amei!

  • superbe version

  • Holly is coming to my town in September. Already got my tickets. Can't wait. A great Canadian singer.

  • This version of the song is over 15 years old, but for some reason I seem to be hearing it all over the radio again this summer.

  • meaning what!

  • Meaning just what I said. After years of almost complete absence from my local radio, it suddenly seems to be in heavy rotation. No idea why.

  • Oh my god, the bass in this is fucking incredible. Not to mention the vocals. This song just blew my mind.

  • I remember I was on a flight from D.C. to San Fran back in 93 or 94, I missed my first flight and had to catch the next one...almost missed my ship for our deployment...I was worried that I was going to miss the boat...well this song just happen to come on and I have to say it made sense...I said to myself...what a voice...since then I have been a fan...!

  • Love this version!

  • damn it- what a fantastic piece of art- the song, the singing, the instrumentals, the visual effects- this is priceless ! And Holly isn't to hard to look at, either.

  • doing my tap dance this year to this.... 5 of us tappers are the clouds and then we have one lyrical dancer dancing around us as the sun.... its going to be BEAUTIFUL!

  • Seriously, this is one of those remakes that truly elevates an original work to a new level. This version of this song is a masterpiece. The piano solo is incredible. The feeling and overall mood of this song is masterful. I cant say enough about it. One of my favourite songs.

  • @deziistheone ..agreed....OUTSTANDING....

  • That bass player has got his act totally together !!!!

  • Shivers and Goosey bumps!

  • Best version ever of this song! What a voice.

  • Vielen Dank für dieses Traumvideo

  • I love this song , especially the way she does it and pays special attention to the notes. its very jazzy! the way it should be!!

  • goose bumps

  • Loved the original lyrics and really wanted to hear it sung by a female cover but her tempo is too slow and the lyrics only really work when they're sung at the original faster pace.

    It's a shame because she's got a great voice.

  • i own this song on cd and it's for me the best coverversion i ever heard of this song. her performance touch me so deep under my skin!

  • fantastic version of this great song,, holly cole is great jazz singer from canada

  • Just one word !

    Wauw !

    John

  • In concert, she refers to this song as a spiritual...easy to see why. Such hope at the end! I love Holly! If you're in San Francisco area...come to Yoshi's on Dec 16th or 17th (2008) to see her!

  • I missed it! I really wanted to see Holly Cole. Oh well.

  • Ez nagyon faja!:))

  • as a jazz singer,..holly has influenced me with her vocal intrepretations of great classics making these songs her own,....i covered this song ,..this arrangement,..felt so good to sing this relaxed style,..i love holly...

  • love to sing with holly. want to hear cruis'n together now. by her. she has a unique emotional tone and warm appeal.

  • my art teacher always plays this wen we do our sketch and write...

  • haha yeah i know, our former teacher did similar jesus it was annoying xD

  • A song of healing. Thank you Jesus.

  • not Jesus, Johnny Nash wrote the song.

  • The Holly Cole Trio remains the most inventive trio ever...man, they inspire me. Thanks for putting up their stuff.

  • after 9 months of battling head and neck cancer I just recieved the news that I am cancer free. This is the first song I thought of. Absolutely love it.

  • Cool! Stay strong and good luck!

  • congats deejer. "...nothing but blue skies" to you.

  • Thx, that rainbow was sure a welcome sight.

  • that is so awesome!

  • @deejer47, when one truly believes, battles and embraces the gift of life… eventually, he/she'll see nothing but blue sky. This song can be used as an inspirational attitude towards life in every step of the way.

  • Holly rocks - this is the best rendition of this song ever recorded.

  • Great tune. She sings it well, but much better live. Saw her at the Montreal Jazz festival. She belted it out. Unfortunately for the video the lyp synching is off, which looks pretty cheap.

  • This is what I call SUPER SLOW music xD

The original was also a slow or so like it... but this... man oh man SLOWER then this? Impossible, thats why Cole does it perfectly and makes the music great. ;D

Awsome way to sing this movie no doubt about it.

    Thanks for the video

  • Fantastic, soooooo smoooooooth.

  • The music is wonderful, she looks great, etc. I think I'd almost prefer more of a club performance-style music video... she's great live, anyway... because by the time the guy dives off the falls, it's a bit too Binaca Blast commercial for my taste - visually. The music and Holly herself are great. Her eyes are expressive, used to good effect here.

  • Saw her do this song live back around 94 or 95 in a small intimate theater in chicago and it was one of the most powerfull performance of this or any song I have seen or yet to see...

  • she's awesome live - I saw her here in Toronto at Massey Hall around the same time and it was the best performance I think I've ever seen...she sounds BETTER live. Scary talent!

  • Grew up down the street from her!

  • i love you holly

  • Shame on me that I don't have any CD's of theirs. Tsk tsk.

  • I recommend "Don't Smoke In Bed" as an introduction to the band. This track is also from that cd.

  • Good tip thanks!

  • Fabulous great voice!

  • thanks alotts for this post ....thats so pure version i mean pure like river in heaven when u close ur eyes and live it

  • At 3:00 I got goosebumps..wow..powerful voice.

  • Absolutely! As this song builds there are a few moments that give me shivers.

  • Long before Norah Jones came along, the real deal was up here in Canada. Her name? Holly Cole.

  • Awesome song! Great video! Fabulous voice!

  • Ótima interpretação..

    É para apaixonar!!

  • Hubba.
