  • There's really no wrong way to fish this fly. Hell, you can strip it right through like a streamer and fish will hit it/

  • HEY! I didn't learn how to tie it :(

  • Wooly Bugger sounds like a racist term for blacks..(and yes i am black)

  • @byrongilliam1 that would be a wooly burgler

  • @byrongilliam1 You're an idiot! and yes.....your an idiot.

  • @ibangedyomominthebut and why is that?

  • looks like a crayfish

  • @Danro05 supposed to man, meant to mimic if you will minnows bugs anything a fish with eat

  • is this a tips video or just common sense? common sense I say.

  • Actually, instead of "always" giving the Woolly Bugger some action, Russell Blessing (inventor of the pattern) said he would fish this fly on a dead drift first, to see if it would attract any fish that way. If that didn't work then he would give it action through various combinations of stripping and rod movement. You can fish this fly without working it -- it will look alive even in very calm waters. Good vid otherwise, though.

  • I've had good luck with Wooly buggers on pan fish in Indiana

  • Dead drifting a wooly bugger can be deadly, why does expert village always come off looking like a "non" expert.

  • "it was built for life"......holy crap, I didn't know this video was going to get so deep !!!!!

  • A WOOLEY BUGGER, I thought that was something you got when you wore a sweater, and picked your nose.

  • @wc4dblues no its when your bugger falls on your sweater

  • To make the woolly bugger or any other leech imitaters more successful,I always tie them onto the leader with a loop knot.It gives the flie more movement and pulsation like a live leech or worm.

  • i aint jigglin nutin

  • does this catch trout?

  • @congoman775 Ever try a Carey Special? You are in Vermont. There are some great streamers that have worked for many years in both upstate NY and Vermont.

What fries my fanny is hearing a man caught a 20 plus incher during spawning. Catch that fish in early spring to even late summer- I will call you one helluva a fly fisherman. Spawning- No way.

  • ive used woollys in every situation from still water to fast riffles, just depends on the fish, if they are chasing i twitch and strip, if they arent i dead drift it, the marabou will create enough movement to entice strikes,

  • I love the footage from 0:44 till the end. Thanks for the post.

  • ibanez860 ...the movement in the video was strictly for demonstration ...obviusly you not going to do that on the real stream...

  • Comment removed

  • i know it sound crazy, but alot of mega sized perch will strike a wooly bugger. you may have to use a fast strip. dont add lead, they love it right off the surface.

  • Cool Good tip!

    TightLines

  • Hey guys

a bugger to move in this way should be fished in a slow water or lets say non moving water, if the river is fast moving, can it still work ? if downstream the bugger will be moved itslef by the stream so wont look real moving like this vid, it will probably look dead true ? can it be fished opposite of the stream ? will it be productive ? thanks

  • Fishing the bugger on the swing can be very effective. Try it!

  • of course you can use it in streams. but its a good idea to make the flie heavy so it gets down to the bottom.

  • The water depth, speed tells me how to fish the bugger. I add heavy copper wire under the chennile to entice walleye off the bottom.A few strands of angel hair in the maribou helps. Today i caught a 3 lb. walleye, a 15" trout and a few half pint bass with the same bugger! Black is more productive but i would preffer to see it if possible.

  • i prefer shorter harder almost slapping strips it imparts more life into the fly. this is particularly effective when trout are feeding aggresively. when fishing faster riffles or runs i exclusiely use the tapping technique. common sense dictates a smal fish would be constantly tapping up through the water column in faster water rather than taking long slow strides

  • did he tie that beacuse when i look at my tied and bought w.b.'s i see mine have bushier tails

  • Wow those actually look real when you move them right, nice vid

  • the guy jigging this is obviously terminating whatevers in his sight haha

    great technique butty

  • butty? you mean buddy : >)

  • nice last name

  • it moved real

  • Hi having fished the wooly bugger 90% of the time i have found it to be a good jig fly on rivers, use a xtra slow sinking line with a 4ft fast sinking tip attached. then look for fast water the and jig the fly sideways upstream and then let it go back down stream again. works great

  • you can fish it dead drift though under an indicator like a nymph

  • its short

  • I have caught all kinds of fish on a bugger!!! they are great. prolly my number 1 fav fly. I also like clouser minnows. they catch lots of fish also.

  • The first time I ever picked up a fly rod and fished with it! I used a wolly bugger. And I caught a 13"rainbow. In running water. Right after sunset! Lake Taneycomo,Missouri! The Dam!

  • one of my favourites in Chilean lakes and rivers. Good tips, thanks,

  • best fly ever.

  • thnx for the vid

but is that way working in the nile river ?

  • zdar

  • Theme Wooly Bugger is opened completely!!! Abruptly!
