  • Hi, Cory! You are showing a wonderful process about teabowl making. So spontaneous. BTW, I don't notice how I do it myself. Funny! I just watch and watch your way and add to my basics. You could be an actor. What is the background music? I know it's not Japanese. K

  • @stsnck k san ! aloha ! thank you for your kind words ! the video was made by @dannyau my clay buddy. we chose chinese music ! haha ! funny ! japanese style ceramics w/ chinese style music ! LOL ! cheers ! genki desu ka ?

  • hi thanks dafukinpikey. its fired in gas reduction w/ applied ash. cheers ! THANK U !

    y. the floor will accomodate the chasen / green tea whisk without any issues. the koudai or footring does not rock and the teabowl sits flat without rocking or moving.

  • oh and p.s. - the woodfired piece in the final scenes is fantastic

  • Are you taking any precautions to make sure the floor is flat/stable and will not rock when being used later ??

  • Anyone can make those shitty pieces... Waste of clay,

  • nice.

  • Those are very cool tea bowls. I've never seen that foot treatment before. I love it.

You made several awesome tea bowls in one 10 minute clip. I took me 30 minutes and 4 clips to make 2 tea bowls and I didn't even get them glazed.

    :) Cindy

  • thank you jmg !

  • well done.

  • Cory, these bowls are very beautiful. Do you sell any? Let me know as I would love to buy one if possible. Thanks from a fan in Scotland, Niall

  • bravo nella tornitura e negli smalti!! generoso nel comunicare agli altri le tue conoscenze

    Cory,hai una marcia in piu'!!!

    marisalte

  • thank you that was amazing ;)

  • Howzit Cory Lum! Unreal skill. I've gone on the wheel 2x w/U.H. ceramics class; caveman results (probably not even that good). I can hardly wait to go and try some of your techniques, tho I know it ain't easy! [I guess photog is taking a back seat....]

  • aloha KK ! hehe keep at it. persistence and practice ! photographing still. in the middle of a ny times project. cheers ! thank you for your kind words !

  • i cant make anything in my ceramics class :(

  • K1, keep practicing. also cutting the thrown piece in half. yes, sound ridiculous after struggling making the darn piece, but this will give you literally insight into the thickness. you will learn quick using this technique.

  • please send some suggestions for another video. aloha !

  • Do you sell your Tea Bowls Cory?

    Aloha

    Dave

  • I have seen a potter turn the base of his pot once that looked like he was peeling an apple but never like this, fantastic. I held my breath when you glazed cause your grip looked a bit funny like you might drop the pot at any moment lol.

I love the finished results, do you wood kiln? I'm in the process of building my own wood kiln so I'm trying to get some of my work to look woodfiredusing my gas kiln.

    Looking forward to more:)

  • love it. Glad to discover you on you tube. I love tea bowls. The hand carving of the foot is interesting and fun.

  • Great job! I miss throwing clay

  • me pottery, please post a video on your throwing and trimming. i'm curious to see your technique. thanks , cory

  • Hey, I throw my chawans exactly like that. I trim mine a bit differently though and carve them aftward. Great video, keep filming!

  • great video Cory!!!

It is nice to see your throwing technique.

    Thanks

    Jack

  • Fun!

  • Excellent video, thanks, Cory! Really informative. I agree what you said about "S-cracks"..I've never had one in a piece thrown on the wheel.

  • I love the music , good work though !!
