I don't even think Michael D'Angelo or whatever his name is can top this. For me, Paul Gilbert is simply the fastest and most adept guitarist. Not sure if anyone is better than Eddie Van Halen at tapping, but I haven't seen this guy tap yet.
I think you mean Micheal Angelo Batio. To me comparing guitarists is srupid. Each have their own distinctive styles that seperate them. Yngwie has his classical touch and speed. EVH has his tapping. Gilbert has his string skipping technique, and so forth. TO say one is better than the other doesnt make sense to me. For EVH to try to sound like Yngwie, or vise versa would suck.
Agreed. There's always some prick who swears they know someone who's "really the best" and, as always, only a small handful of people know who they are.
I know of a small handful of people who've seen the Loch Ness monster, too.
im a guitar player and i have to tell u that what he plays from .58 to 1.10 is freeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaakin hard id like to see if some one can try that please
Paul has been playing music for *years*. This is a guitar solo at a concert in Japan with a band he parted ways with over a decade ago. His solo stuff is excellent. For being one of the best shredders ever, the amount of restraint he can exercise is phenomenal.
You should look into some of his solo stuff.... most of it is actually catchy pop/rock. He probably holds back the most of all the 'shredders' to be fair.
yeah im a fairly new paul gilbert fan im trying to get my hands on all his songs. does any1 know if ibanez are a good buy? i just brought a dean razorback and its sweet but tons of shredders use ibanez so im intrested.
Eeeh, not that impressive. Just a bunch of scales and sequences. Once you kiddies grow up, go listen to some Steve Morse, who can pick circles around Paul Gilbert, and play more than just sequences and patterns.
I learned that skipping bit it is awesome. Its simple really pick up your guitar and try to play along the more you do it the easier it will get and really helps improve your musical ear.
man i gotta try the part withe the power drill

That lick from :58 to about 1:10 sounds amazing! Gilbert was only about 18 when this video was shot. He is a classic example of a guitar prodigy.
gumbi18jb 4 years ago
uhhm he was actually 25 when he joined Mr. Big
ermonski 4 years ago
this was in the mid ninedees so he must have been at least 25... but that dosen't change the fact that he is the fucking greatest.

If you don't like Paul Gilbert you cannot say that he sucks! He don't!
Robozgraggi 4 years ago
mostly all music is patterns, very much including classical music - just because he is using shred to express himself doesn't mean he sucks :]
