I think this tops many an Odabella. Her high notes are ringing, and her lows notes soar over the orchestra. I always liked Chiara, I didn't realize she had that dramatic punch!!
She is barking. No need to bark even if you mean to be angry. It's a dramatic coloratura role, not a hoch dramatischer. I think this sound very little refined. Even if Joan Sutherland couldn't possibly sing the entire part she sings this aria wonderful.
Actually, Joan Sutherland could take on everything easily, do not forget that when she was discovered as Lucia she had already performed Aida, Amelia in Un Ballo at Covent Garden and lets not forget her Il Trovatore. It would have been amazing had she taken on this role. A dramatic coloratura like Cristina Deutekom.
Singers take risks all the time because they don't want to have only Boheme sized roles in their repetoire. Nothing wrong with Boheme. Any role is demanding, but today singers need to stand out from the crowd so they blow up a lyric voice and shave off years from a career Even Callas did it. Ricciarelli, Scotto, Chiara. even Fleming overextends. If they didn't they'd be house singers with NO notariety. That's the way it goes.
singing this kind of "things" she did destroy her voice although she started to shout even earlier unfortunately. We did love her very much but one cannot say this is belcanto, wrong people around here all long her carreer
i still remember her unrivalled Aida , which had watched in a video ...it was from Arena di Verona ...and since then i say that she was the most beautiful Aida till today ...i really wonder why she didn' t become more famous ...such a Great Singer !!! does anybody know where Maria is today and if she still sings ...
no va bene, respira quasi davanti ogni parola perche non riesce riempire il suono, cadenza non e giusta,e dopo di questo urlano brava?........ allora non lo so che cosa chiamiamo bellcanto.non e suo repertorio secondo me.
Great! One might say she's a little unrefined or lacking in smoothness, but she compensates any possible flaw with a true canto di bravura. This is very rare, and I know because I always seek for truly powerful and brave coloratura singing. She is truly excellent. A beautiful voice, good coloratura, large range and pretty woman. Why wasn't she more famous? I wonder.
Oh I'm sorry, I signed yours as a poor comment but it was a mistake! I'm not able to modify this action, if you Know how and please tell me I'll certainly do it.
Wonderful. It is such a shame that the stranglehold of the big record companies, together with the long shadows of the undeniably great Tebaldi and Callas, kept artists of this calibre in the shade. How we need a singer such as her today.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
great voice, but I've got a number of problems with this
1) Odabella is fiery young heroine, not a 45 year old matriarch. her timbre needs to be bright and heroic
2) Verdi is all about florid singing and spinning dramatic lines, perfect legato is a must
3) this role is for a coloratura, not a spinto. she has a good top, but not enough agility and ease in the upper range to sing this comfortably
PS: I'll repeat what I said earlier, great voice, wrong rep.

One of the very best Odabella´s I´ve ever heard.
Fiery attack, beautiful voice (never mind a little "lack in refinement"! She delivers!! And a very beautiful woman.
