  • Can a non-Australian do prospecting in Australia?

Are there any legal documents to fill?

  • @EdTheBadass Anyone can prospect in australia, there is laws for dredging.

  • @EdTheBadass I run Gold Tours in Victoria near Ballarat. Yes you can but you need to buy a prospecting license ($25 for 2 years) its just like a fishing license. I take people prospecting from all over the world. There are some laws as to where you can go and on what type of land you can prospect on but I have 20ac of PRIVATE land on Slatey Creek (richest gold creek in the world) and take my customers there. There's no better prospecting than on private land with gold on it.

  • @3xut got it all figured out at 22 your one hell of a BOY!!!

  • so by reef, would you also mean what other people call a vein?

  • Crikey !! - wicked lode - 45 oscars to a bucket ... well worth the efforts of crushing the ore

  • how ironic : the comment is 'we all think the gold has gone from the world - like hell it is !' Well, the truth is that men will lose their souls in this life while the streets in the better world to come are presently and will always be paved with gold!' Not gold everywhere, bu theology everywhere!

  • I found gold in my mom's jewelry case.

  • no?!

  • If Gold was easy to find it wouldn't be valuable

  • Not exactly true. Diamonds are somewhat easy to find... or rather obtained in high volume in some places... but the supply is controlled to maintain optimal pricing. It's both "supply" and "demand" not just supply.

  • u think i can find gold in india????

  • No just 6 billion people who think they are living of the land occuring to their culture lol What land? lol

  • u can find a lot of gems if u know where to look

  • ya sure why not gold is every where

  • lol

  • you know if you spend alot of money on equipment, it will be hard to pay back. but with that much gold, piece of cake! nice job.

  • All you need is a good prybar, pan, shovel, and homemade crevice tool. You can get nuggets and pickers quite a bit if you do a bit of hiking to get away from the common spots.

WILL SHOW YOU HOW THE ROTAPAN WORKS

  • John,

I just admire my rotapan that goes into the top of the 5 gallon bucket. I think it is the neatest 21st century heavy mineral concentrator the world has seen. It is especially useful out here in the desert.

As you say in your neat country,CHEERS, MATE. You must be one heck of a mechanical engineer. I never took physics in my university degree, but have lots of mathematics under my belt. Engineers like you make life fun. Thanks buddy.

    Steve Jones/ El Paso TX

  • ROTAPAN

As I wrote before, I do not remain easily impressed. At 57, I have seen a lot of inventions, but none have matched yours. You appear to be a genius at heavy minerals concentration. As a school teacher (ex) I know everyone is gifted in varied areas. You have done it again. Congrates.

Please keep experimenting, my friend. Something else will come to mind.

Australia has always been a good friend of the US. We have always thought of you guys as brothers.

  • wow half your luck, thats what dreams are made of Finding a reef

  • just dont tell where you live

  • damn i like to find gold.. but i don't know anything about it. and it must be really hard work.

  • the only thing hard about finding gold is moving rock! it's back breaking work but worth the effort.

geologist state that all the gold in circulation only amounts to 10% of the available deposits. so, go out and look for the 90%!

all you need it some research, a pan and a shovel to start out with!

    good luck!

  • Theres enough gold in the earths mantle and core to pave every square inch of land in the world. We just cant get it! :( But there is a ton of gold to be had for the average person.

  • No I dont think its hard I'm 15 and im panning for gold this weekend and we just went to our local treausre finding store I guess you can call it and we got the things we need for about $10 and theres lots of sites for panning. If panning is what you want to do to just start.

  • how about gold in southern illinois. I have seen rocks that look as if they are rusting in several of the streams around here.

  • gold fever my freind and he would pobet;ly sell i8t

  • 2012 survivor....yes you do have gold in western PA. we dont have lots of it like out West but its here

  • pa is a pain in the ass to get the flour gold out if i were in a area like that i would be happyer than a pig in shit.

  • I like it... I got a case of gold fever !

  • hey dude, watch the "finding gold" series here on youtube. matt tells us that gold is everywhere, if you have a stream or river near you there's a good chance you have gold. watch and learn, he's really a good guy...good luck!

  • Holy crap that's some rich ore!!! Pyrite? Crush it and it turns black. Any decent prospector knows the difference at first glance; 1/3 the weight, very light goldish color, usually squarish crystals or faceting and very shiny.

  • wrong partner, prospecters have shipped "Traonloads" of what they thought was gold to mills only to have it assayed as pyrite! In Colorado, There are places where gold is found INSIDE pryrite crystals!

  • The assayers probably had them dump the trainloads of "pyrite" behind their office.

  • All you guys that are argueing about pyrite are a bunch of dumbshits and obviously have never seen gold.If you have a slight idea of what you are looking at there is no comparison between gold and pyrite. And yes flour gold will float!!!!Just get any kind of oil on it.

  • bullshit!!!! IT WILL FLOAT WITHOUT OIL IVE SEEN BIIIIG FLAKES FLOAT.

  • i wish we had gold in florida

  • You Do

  • (all that shines is not gold) its a little phrase i learned in school

  • I am a small miner in Gippsland, if unsure its gold just put a bit of mercury with it, if its gold it will amalgamate with the mercury, also you can try hammering it, gold will flatten but pyrite will break.

Try a sluice box using small bubble plastic wrap its the greatest thing for catching gold even down to flour gold and your tailings come out a lot cleaner and easier to clean up.

If its gold you have it looks like about 50 ozs to the ton well done

    Ivan

  • How do you go about using the bubble wrap? Thanks!

  • Hi Peace Channel, get a tray about 4-6" wide, and about 6 -8ft long, line the bottom and sides with the wrap and I hold it on with clothes pegs, than just run water and your tailings over the bubble wrap, the gold sinks and catches between the bubbles all the rest just go over the top and out.

Just upend the tray when finished and hose the contents into a pan for the final result.

Let me know what you think

    Ivan

  • i dont know why people would risk mercury vapor for tiny pieces of gold not even worth it... really if its not big enough to see its not worth it dont but horrible chemicals in your brain that will make you lose your mind for minute amounts of gold that will amount to dollars. prospectors say if you think its gold its not, if youre sure it is then it is.

  • yeah well 45 ounces is 45 thousand bucks right now, a years fuckin wages.

  • pyrite how do u figure get out ur scales here is alittle 101 pyrite=light gold=heavy now does that look like 45oz. of light material

  • holy shit!

    45 whole oz.

i dont think i'll break out the cigars just yet..

i'll wait til we find a bit more..yeah.

  • Its obviously not Iron Pyrite these guys know what they are doing

  • and fools gold (pyrite) is to shiney to be true

  • Aren't gold suppose to be in bars???? hehehe!!!

  • WOW! Fantastic find. That's like finding a brand new car in every bucket. Anyways gold is about 4 times as heavy as iron pyrite so in the picture of the 45oz it looks pretty close to the size for 4 lbs of gold not that I ever dug up that kind of a find before.

  • there is such thing as floating gold? you mentioned it in the discription.

  • Yes. Super fine gold will sometimes float when you pan it. Just add a little soap to the water to break the surface tension and the gold will sink to the bottom.

  • How do u know that's not Iron Pyrite (fools gold). You have to show certain chem_ical tests to prove it is really true Au gold.

  • When in doubt, get out the trusty streak plate.

  • That amount of gold would make my day.

  • I dont understand...
