I have to agree with him on this. Some may argue his age blaah blaah, presentation etc. But he puts together hard facts to the reality the game is pretty much half arsed. Even the fanboy versions (ie. sonic fan remix) a) appear more desirable, b) captures the speed and thrill which made the classics, classics and c) the music is what to be expected for a modern day interpretation. its just another prime example of Sega not listening to the people who made Sega... Their consumers and fans.
Sure the physics aren't perfect, but they're a lot better than you make them out to be, and they don't ruin the game or anything. So what that they're not the same as they were in the genesis games? Why SHOULD it have the same physics as the genesis games? Examine the game on its OWN merits, and stop complaining about every little change that they make!
The problem isn't that the physics aren't like the originals. The problem is the physics are bad ON THEIR OWN MERITS.
The thing about physics is that they are intuitive. Everyone understands that a ball rolling down a hill gains speed. So why can't Sonic? Everyone gets that an object travels in an arc through the air. So why does Sonic immediately stop in the air if you let go of the control stick?
Things like that are COUNTER-INTUITIVE and make the game FRUSTRATING TO PLAY.
@CthulhuInACan Thing is that SEGA billed this as a sequel to Sonic 3 & Knuckles and said it'd be just like it and the other Genesis games because that's what people had been asking them for. So the game should be compared to the older ones to see how well SEGA delivered on their promises/marketing speeches of the game being like the old ones. Examining it on its own merits is just overlooking the fact that SEGA did not make the game they promised they were making.
@CthulhuInACan Its a sequel to Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles, that why it should have the same physics. You know, like all the other ones? The physics in Sonic 4 are garbage and dont make any sense.
They certainly don't make games like they used to. All people seem to care about now days are graphics. Wow, it's HD, who cares? When the controls suck, the graphics don't matter. You can paint a piece of shit gold, but it's still a piece of shit.
I haven't played the game, but I've got an inkling that the level design isn't what it could have been either.
I've played a lot of my old favorites recently. I sat back and was amazed at the QUALITY. They just don't make them like they used to.
y'know if you all want sonic 2 then just play sonic 2 its been released like a billion times and you know what it does play like the old ones .... iffy at best its your opinion to not like the game but its not a bad game sonic riders was bad sonic 4 is not liked
@CrappingRainbows No I said that Sonic Colors is for all ages, It's storyline is the only thing that is meant to appear to children. Colors doesn't play itself, it only does that on certain sections of Starlight Carnival. and so what? I like Chris so I'm allowed to have him as my picture icon.
@CrappingRainbows They are making Sonic Generations because it's a cool idea to have another Time Traveling storyline like in Sonic 06, plus it's fun to have both. and Whether he's in his classic or modern design he will still play the same in the 2d Sonic games. There is nothing lol about my picture icon, I happen to like Chris Thorndyke alot, I think that he is a great Sonic character. t's not their abilities that make them cool it's their emotions and interations with the other characters.
@CrappingRainbows and yes I have played the Genesis games and yes they are near exact replicas, the gameplay is almost the same, the physics are the same if you don't let go of the control stick (Something your brain obviously can't figure out), and the story is nearly the same too.
I know how you can solve your problems with the physics, Just don't let go of the darn control stick! If you don't let go it plays exactly like the Genesis games and are alot of fun! You are such a fanbrat.
@pkstarstorm1up What? Having to force the player to hold the control stick to make the physics appear correct is absolutely ABSURD. Physics should be correct whether you are holding the control stick or letting go of it. If you trip and start to fall forward, will you automatically stop in your tracks and stand straight up if you look the other way?
What you suggest only covers up sloppy programming that the beta testers failed to catch.
Let's say you are riding a bike. (Pedaling = Holding control stick)
Imagine you are on top of a steep hill. You start pedaling down the hill. Because of physics, your momentum starts to build up and you are sailing down the hill at a speed that is increasing. Now you STOP pedaling.
What happens?
A) You stop instantly.
B) You keep going until you reach the bottom of the hill and your momentum decreases until you stop naturally.
@28SNaKeS My point is, no matter what the game LOOKS like, it's still got to FEEL right as well, no? If a game, ANY GAME not just Sonic, doesn't feel natural in the controls... it kind of takes away from the experience, doesn't it? Being a fan of classic Sonic myself, these games are supposed to have natural and fluid movement in order to maneuver around in the stages. They're not supposed to feel like an incomplete fan game you downloaded for free.
This is a video game we're talking about not a real life situation, the point is it's wrong to hate on this game and call it bad when you simply just don't let go of the control stick and it plays exactly like a Genesis Sonic game.
If there was a design problem this insignifigant in a Mario game then thier fans would just use the fix it quick solution and still have lots of fun playing the game. But no Genesis Sonic fans want everything to be perfect. Well no game is perfect so get over it.
@pkstarstorm1up I would have the same reaction to a new Mario platformer if the programmers took away from the fluidity of Mario's movement. Fluidity in movement is VITAL in platformers.
I'm not "hating on the game", I just believe the programmers and beta testers overlooked a major piece of what made Sonic games so fun to play.
And once again, HAVING TO HOLD THE CONTROL STICK TO COVER UP A FLAW is completely absurd.
@pkstarstorm1up Also, I'm sorry if I offend you here, but judging by your given age, I wouldn't expect you to fully understand anyway growing up in the age of 3D video games. 2D platformers always had a certain charm about them, but programmed carelessly, they could be horrible - 3rd party games, usually ;)
I'm not trying to hurt you with your age, there's nothing wrong with it. I just made an observation.
I'm surprised that SEGA didn't take a little more time to iron out the physics.
@28SNaKeS Not at all don't worry I've grown up with 3d platformers so I guess i kind of understand your complaints, but I feel that the complaints aren't enough to warrent that the game is garbage.
Episode 2 might address the problems that you have though.
@pkstarstorm1up Please stop getting me wrong. I didn't say the game is garbage, I haven't even played it myself. But, from the evidence of these two videos from a classic STH fan, like myself, I can say without regret that I will not be buying it. IF, this game came out for free or given to me as a gift, than sure, I WOULD play it ONLY because it is a Sonic game in it's original 2D format.
I'm sure the game at heart is good, but the physics alone would spoil it enough to not play long.
@pkstarstorm1up Thats retarded. You SHOULDNT have to hold the stick down. If youre rolled up in a ball on youre on a hill youll roll down the hill. Thats call being at an angle and letting gravity take over. Basic physics. To have to force it the whole time doesnt make any sense. Dont be a Sonic/Sega fanboy.
@TheTonyPainstation You are the fanboy because you're letting something as trivial as this make the game not fun for you. Why would you want to let go of the control stick when you are going down a hill anyway!? The only reason someone would do that is because they are purposefully trying to find something to make the game unenjoyable for them. It's 2d fanboys like you who are dragging the series down.
For someone the Sonic team characterised as, "Doesn't like to stand still for too long", Sonic seems to want to do a lot more standing still in Sonic 4 than in the earlier games. :/
Man i gave up on Sonic when the dreamcast came out, but now that they've butchered the classic as well this is outrageous I can only hope thats Sonic generations will fix everything they've screwed up, but i highly doubt it.
I guess they have to go back to the 2d and even to the old engine, i would be satisfied for seeing a new sonic, that: it might look exactly like the old ones, but of course, with new stages, new enemies, and no HOMING ATTACK, PLEASE.
SEGA tried new things, and failed, ok, it can happen, we are all humans!. and for those sonic fans who are acting like douchebags complaining in a bad way... well calm the fuck down man.
when it came out, i played the demo... didnt bother to buy it because i didnt like the game physics... i noticed every bad thing right away.. i was really pissed.. if they at least got the physics right, and more SPEED, this game could of been actually decent.. but no.. i dont mind the new sonic look with green eyes, but come on, we need sonic to look like hes running crazy fast, as in the more speed he gets, the legs of sonic should spin faster . not move faster and have same speed legs..
My friend is playing this game right now next to me, and he's cursing like mad...
"WTF?! Why does this feel so weird? Why does Sonic stop in the middle of a jump or while I'm running? What.. whoa.. wait... what the hell am I doing?! I don't remember Sonic acting like this on the Genesis... hey--wait--what the hell is going on", lol. It's funny.
Now if we can get Sega of Japan / Sonic Team / Dimps / Iizuka to listen to Sega of America/Europe and the fans and fix the physics so that they are at least 70% like the classics, then hopefully the game won't feel like a lazy overpriced almost replayability-free "classic" Sonic game riding on the success of recent retro retail/downloadable games.
I agree, as said in my response to DrYabon's post, Sonic is probably about speed and timing, not these physics. I say probably because some people say its about the story, but... Lets face it STH4 has no substantial story and its just recycled the artistic style of the franchises successful 16 bit era.
Oh, and i laugh hard to the "stop whining, you just have to adapt to the physics flaws". So now, when a game has flaws, it's YOUR fault and YOU have to adapt to the flaws ? Try to be serious for a second...
His point is because of the physics IT IS NOT A SONIC GAME, and its sucks because they marketed it as such. I agree, with AGwolf2097, its like this Sonic is the bastard love child of an affair between a 16 bit hedgehog and an plumber...
Sonic is about speed and momentum and being able to time things probably, not about sluggishly letting go of buttons. The challenge is in having to react fast, not dulling the game down in speed to create the illusion that the levels are longer.
When I play Sonic 4, my first reaction was : "WTF momentum ?"
Now, thanks to you, i won't even have to try explaining what momentum is to dumbass who cant see by themselves how the game is different from the old Sonic.
Ironically, the Homing-Att. was no problem, and could have been great (remember the excellent fangame Sonic Megamix), too bad the physics are fucked up.
You know, Sonic erusjh wasn't a bad game... It was a fair, coppetent game that shows Sonic alive and like the old ones.
OK, back to Sonic 4, I liked the game. Of course, it is not that great, but, at least, show that sonic Team and Dimps can do something GOOD with sonic. Of course, it has bad graphics, but, i do not have any complain about the Physics, because it is kinda interesting way to make the game a little more plataforming, not pure speed.Stop using your nostalgia glasses and accept it
wow 26 and your complaining about a sonic game? you need some pussy in your life my guy. :/ haha i didnt even watch more that 3 minutes. this is why i fuckz with my nigga super mario.
@Jesse. Also, just because you advanced to the 9th grade doesn't particularly mean anything. Schools need to advance you, even if you're mediocre, just to make way for new students. You can be dumb as dirt but still move on because people keep having babies and those babies need to take your place one day. In other words, you could be advancing to a level of incompetency and not even realize it. The Peter Principle pretty much explains it all. It's a good read. I recommend it
@Jesse. Fair enough. By the way, your comments sound like they're being spouted by Beavis and Butthead. You don't have to end every sentence with an insult, you know. Just a thought.
@Jesse. Ha ha ha! "Asswhole"? I'm sorry, my friend, but you should stop playing so many games and read more books. (I'm not going to say pay more attention in school, because the education system is a joke these days). And playing the game when you're three and when you can't really appreciate it isn't the same thing as actually being there. We'll both agree that playing games at 10 was more gratifying than at 3, won't we?
Jesse, Jesse, Jesse. How would you know? You're just a child? You grew up with 3D gaming. You don't understand how the way Sonic plays, which is what this guy is trying to show, is important. He's not talking about how he looks, but how he plays, which sucks in Sonic 4. You really had to be there. Playing the compilations, on a controller other than a Genesis, is not the same. Please be quiet, young man. When someone says how the physics of the new God of War 7 is just as good as the original,
@LOSTHOMEY1 I'm 19 years old and played sonic and mario (my first vg was a SNES and I only had this vg until 1998/1999) during my whole childhood and I think this game is great, you can't live in the past forever, the problems with the programming of this game can be easily avoided after you adapt yourself to the new engine (c'mon, why would you stop running in the middle of a loop?), and this is not a competitive game like SSFIV to complain that much about physics, so yeah, go have fun.
You're being a pansey over small errors that can be overcomed. Every complaint is a small detail that can be ignored with the right controlling. Only somebody stuck in the past would want to compare. The Sonic Fanbase, complaining over Sonic 4, TROLLS are smarter, because they don't do what they say in real life. I love Mega Man as shit, but I don't play it to death. I don't whine that he doesn't slide anymore, or charge his buster, and spit on his new games.
I think it's funny how everyone's complaining about how different sonic controls in sonic 4 but no one talks about how stupid spin dashing is in Sonic CD.
You're right, man. :/ I tried to ignore the physics, and it felt like it SHOULD have been the next great Sonic game. But the way that they made him STOP all of the damn TIME just got on my nerves. This isn't the true sequel to the Sonic games. This game sucks.
The game isn't terrible, but it's nothing like the old games. Even Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 had good physics. That's pretty much where it ended. In Werehog levels on Sonic Unleashed, when walking along a beam with spikes sticking out of the side, if you get close the edge, the spikes somehow hurt you even though they're still below you pointing out. Fail.
That's why I ordered Sonic Mega Collection.
@MysticErf They're irresistible! Even when you don't need them.
Your video is excellent and your complaints justified. I'm don't so much care that the new mechanics aren't clones of the original (Despite Sega promising S4 would be exactly the same as the previous) as the new mechanics are just anti-fun. Sonic can ONLY attack when in a ball so rolling up a ramp and immediately coming out just makes it impossible to hit enemies on the way down! For fun you should add in footage from the superior, fan-made Sonic game.
Ah... So it seems that there's a lack of momentum compared to the Genesis. Well, as some others have been saying, Sonic was never about speed, but momentum- specifically momentum used to gain speed.
Oh well, tis a shame, but as others have said, this installment was made from a completely different staff.
@sonicfeet If you really hate new sonic game just because of some butthurt of yours so simply don't play it and go for Sonics from genesis era. Things changes during time, and if you think that the changes are bad, SO DON'T PLAY IT, fuck, I prefer Sonic Adventure style for 3D sonic games, but I also play games like the day stages of sonic unleashed of wii and sonic colors, even prefering the other style, because I'm having fun either way, and things changes as time go through.
"things change over time and you have to deal with it"
The thing is, this change is not good, and no Genesis Sonic fan wants to cope with this change. No one wants to cope with change for the sake of change (or change because of ignorance).
"whine and complain like a spoilt bitch"
I highly suggest you go back to Encyclopedia Dramatica if you're going to talk in such an arrogant and generally holier-than-thou manner.
@sonicfeet the thing is, very few, or NONE of the original team who made the Genesis Sonic games were involved with Sonic 4. Expecting the exact same gameplay is ridiculous when you consider the direction of the other Sonic games. For example, the Sonic Advance games on GBA were decent but lacking. The Sonic Rush games... same thing. They felt different from the Genesis games. Seeing this continuation, what really were you expecting exactly? I admit I was harsh in my comment though.
@jotenko Like I said, very few, if none of the original people who made the Genesis Sonic games actually made this one!
Think of an actor playing the role of a certain character. The actor leaves, for whatever reason, but the producers want the character to stay on in the show. So they replace the actor with a different one. The new actor can never live up to the standard of the original.
Anyone expecting the game to be EXACTLY like Sonic 3 is missing the point.
@TehOwchies I used to have exactly your opinion, but once I played everything changed. Thing is, the good thing about sonic WAS its superb gameplay, all of that is gone. That's OK by me, the level design, sonic eyes, whatever, the homing attack, you name it, BUT, when you screw the BASICS of a sonic game, then you are in seriously trouble. Besides, SONIC 4 was in FACT released to please the old school sonic fans, like me, so, if that's so, why doesn't it at least have a similar gameplay? Tk care
Disappointed in how this game turned out, I haven't even bought it, and I wont cus I've seen how the physics work. I've been a long time fan of Sonic & the games from the start but Sonic 4, with all its HD graphics, etc, is still not as good as a game made nearly 2 decades ago. The fun part about the early sonic games was gaining momentum and flying through the levels, also relying on your own skill to be able to hit enemies, not some mindless homing attack...
@murphy341 I agree with the points made in this video, they are all valid. To all the people that say it's just retro sonic fans being fags - Sega made this game for the old fans, to rekindle what they had lost and to restore faith in Sonic games, due to the absolute shite they've put Sonic's face on over the years. Sega failed to do this by making some wishy washy attempt which also appeals to the younger generation.
Man, if only I had watched this Video BEFORE I bought THAT crappy piece of GARBAGE. I mean, I've seen pics and vids of it before, and it looked really bad. But never had I expected it to be THAT bad.
There was no Demo version for the PS3 (in Germany, at least), so I thought just get it, every (official) reviewer said it's as good as the original ones and bought it.
I feel fucking ripped off by SEGA. I won't even bother completing it. It just blows.
@mensk1987 Oh, and I see u're using an emulator. Google for "sonic mega mix hack", a fanmade hacked/heavy modified version of Sonic 1 for the Sega Mega CD. Download it, play it, and you'll see how fucking awesome a (retro!) Sonic game can be. Trust me! ;)
I totally agree with you about the physics in sonic 4. what gets on my nerves the most is having to keep holding right/left on the controller, so sonic doesn't fall into pits (i'm looking at you, minecart section of lost labyrinth)
If you want old school Sonic, play old school Sonic. I don't see why the fuck Sonic Team should give a fuck about the three elitist assholes who complain about how they don't want fucking friction in their Sonic game. Sonic has moved on. Dealwithit.gif
@Skwigelf100 Three? In case you didn't know, there are MORE videos in this site that bring up this flaw. Even Sonic Retro (and other professional sites) acknowleges it. So what do you prefer from Sega? To improve themselves based on these adressed gameplay flaws, or to not improve at all?
@AguFungus Sorry if the exaggeration wasn't obvious, but even if it's more, Sonic Team has no reason to care or listen. The gameplay flaws that this guys is talking about aren't really flaws. It's just how Sonic Team designed the game. They're not flaws, they're just deviations and changes from the old Genesis feel. I can see how that may be a little jarring for people who enjoyed the first one, but that's no reason to call a game shit.
@Skwigelf100 I really can't disagree here more. It's a direct sequel to the last installment of the original Sonic series and as murphy341 said, Sonic Team tried to please both the younger/"newer" AND old school Sonic players. Except they failed epical to give old school players the feeling of playing one of the original series.
Even for a non-Sonic game, it just feels so bad playing this game. Something I wouldn't even touch if it was for free. But hey, if YOU like it, enjoy it! :)
After watching your video I've realized something: You're bitching and moaning because it's harder to lose control of Sonic. Why do you care so much that when you let go of the control pad that Sonic won't keep on rolling around on his own?
Very clearly they intend you to keep holding a direction if you want to move in that direction. Is that so hard to understand? "Hey, I want to move forward. Maybe I should hold down forward!!!"
@WryGuy87 Because that's not how momentum works in a Sonic game. If you played the classics long enough, maybe you'll notice that there are things wrong in 4 with the mechanics that made the gameplay of the original trilogy make sense. And there are MORE videos that bring this up, even Sonic Retro.
Also, isn't ironic that even when someone adresses a gameplay flaw without sounding like a deranged fanboy, someone out there has to come to accuse them as such without looking at themselves?
@AguFungus I have played the classic games plenty. The simple fact of the matter is that he's complaining about a problem that is solved by holding down left or right, and he's calling people idiots over it. Sorry, but he does sound like a deranged fanboy.
It's ridiculous that this is all it takes to ruin a game for somebody.
@WryGuy87 Also, if you're LAUNCHED forward (like from a cannon), you're not expected to press the forward button, because of the momentum there, which makes sense. Unfortunately, because of the lack of momentum, the developers didn't get this right either.
@AguFungus I understand that the physics are less realistic. It's also a videogame. These controls essentially give you more control over Sonic than before, and people are complaining.
@WryGuy87 I really don't think it's giving you MORE control over Sonic. Personally, I don't want to pierce my thumb through the controller by keep pressing Left or Right in order to keep him moving WHILE HE'S IN MIDAIR. Seriously, you just need to release it for a milisecond, and he stops right away.
It's something that completely irritates me in interacting with known and logical physics, forcing me to get used to it's quite illogical and stiff physic, that doesn't even bring any advantages.
(not aimed at video)Weird, I have made a 2d game with weight. I'm sorry if that's impossible. I guess paper doesn't have weight it likes to touch the ground. No gravity. (not aimed at video)
Wow. Just wow. Let me start, by saying this dude, he uses a lot of strong words. They (sega) didn't think for a second about completely going back to the old-school style physics. The game does what it's designed to do. It's designed to entertain the new age children, and splash in a little nostalgia at the same time. You made a whole video just now on the fact that sonic has more control. They made him different. The game was great for a piece of the full game. I can't wait for all four parts.
Hey buddy. You should REALLY check up the one of the videos from slingerland60 called "The Sonic Show #56: SEGA of America Community Event 2010", the SONIC TEAM gets completely put in his place, and at least we can pray for a good Episode 2. At least it seemed that those guys were hearing and understanding the points.
@SigmaChicken09 hey, I'm 24, I practice weight lifting and I absolutely don't play games at all, although, when it comes to Sonic, I add an exception.
sonic 3d games werent so good, and they bring it back, wat more could you want? granted although the physics are different it doesnt take so long to get used to and its still fun, WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT? Physics outa the way its awsome, the music, graphics, and some of the gameplay, its not so bad, yeah he doesnt have that much momentum, who cares its fun, wat do you need for a game realistic- ness or go back to your childhood? cmon you hafta be kidding
Who gives a shit, the "physics" as you say, are fine! SO WHAT IT'S NOT LIKE THE OLD GAMES! I love the old Sonics, and Sonic 4. Just enjoy the game, Sega don't have to cater to older fans.
oh god oh god oh god i have been reading more and more comments from the stupid close minded retards, are you call stuck in the early 90's or something, there is nothing wrong with the continuity or flow of sonic 4 i can blast through the levels with out being hurt or grinding to a halt with ease, the problem isn't the phyics or the controls the problem is your refusal to do anything but what you did in the early 90's megadrive sonic games, news flash, WE AREN'T PLAYING MEGADRIVES ANYMORE.
@minicook111 yeah sure, it plays OK, but it still begs the question why they deliberately made him move physically akward! What reason can there be to do this? It looks like THIS game's controls are from the 90's!
@rexonaforwomen he only really moves physically akward when you play it like the megadrive games once i got used to it i had no problems which is why i ranted away here, it seems alot of people here have this mental block which is stopping them from enjoying this game, it could be improved however familia locals and boss' where my biggest complaint, that and the fact they refuse to give dr robotnik his former title back.
i can see what you are saying but you are basically complaining that the game plays DIFFERENTLY, to the old games, i am a huge fan of sonic i was brought up on a diet of him bassically, as far as i can see the problem you have is the fact you are completely close minded and averse to change i'm guessing you probally hated the sonic advance and sonic rush games, i'm sorry but the phyics of this game are not WRONG they are just DIFFERENT, why don't you just grow up, get used to it, and have fun
You have no idea how much you have missed the point of this video.
You say the video uploader can't accept change-- he won't here, because this change involves programming a game with physics that are not normal for this franchise and are incorrect in general.
You say the physics are "DIFFERENT," and not incorrect-- I have already made my point about this one paragraph ago.
Then, you end the comment by calling the creator immature, and command him to cope with the physics and force him to feel a specific mood (which he is incapable of having-- not because he is a "retrofag-- " but because he has a NEGATIVE OPINION of the game)-- just because you tell him to cope with the physics does not mean he will obey you and immediately change his opinion to suit your bigoted ways (he sure as hell won't after telling him to "grow up").
@sonicfeet not normal for this franchise? what about sonic rush? It's from the sonic franchise too. And well, the game doesn't get horrible to the point that you can't play it just because of the physics, you can have tons of fun with this game. If YOU can't have fun with that physics so shut up and go play Genesis games, and do what any human should do, seek your own fun. For me both genesis games and this game are fun, it's not an "OMG, HE STOPS MOVING IN THE AIR" that is gonna make me stop...
Other than that, sonic were made to be fun. You don't go to tournaments of sonic games, do you? so stop complaining about minor changes on it's physics.
You're absolutely wrong. 2D games do not have physics, that requires the third dimension. 2D games use collision detection. Your incompetence and ignorance is astounding. Suicide is the only option for someone as incredibly stupid as you.
@papabungle The laws of physics apply to the third dimension and even 3D games are just a representation of a physical world. I disagree with your comment. Besides what else would you call a 2D simulation of physics. Are you a troll, seriously?
I already told you. 2D games do not have physics. That is something exclusive to 3D games. 2D games have collision detection, which is completely different. This guy has no idea what he is talking about and as such, shouldn't be talking. Can you not read?
@papabungle Semantics. Regardless of what you call it, the momentum/physics/collision detection in this game is awful, and disgraces the Sonic the Hedgehog name.
Also, if you want anyone to take you seriously, stop with the ad hominem attacks.
Grow up. There is nothing wrong with expecting people to have a decent understanding of what they are talking about if they are going to discuss it. Also, this isn't semantics. Collision detection and physics are completely different. You should consider attempting suicide for saying something that profoundly stupid.
Collision detection, right! The point is the games physics is built off this so called collision detection, it's called dynamics. Trust me, program a flash game and you'll know what it mean. There is a lot more involved then collision detection. I agree with him wholeheartedly. Sonic s journey through 3d isn't all bad it had a rough start but sonic adventure nailed it. 2 was OK and Unleash was a beast. Yeah leave out the beast part and that's whats sonic 3d is all about
"Collision detection, right! The point is the games physics"
Here is where I stopped reading you idiotic tool. The game doesn't have physics. Its 2D. Physics requires objects to have weight. 3D games with physics give all their game objects appropriate amount of weight. Thats how they operate. 2D objects do not have weight. Get that through your dense, stupid head. You're as big of a toad as the poster of the video.
shut up 3-d objects, images, the so called weight of the object is created through a computer. If not physics what do you call it correct me for using the wrong term but the logic stands. Get a life! Your bias comments devoid of any logic or rather relevance to the point being conveyed by the video.
@ajtemp2000 His point is that the physics are poor or at least dissimilar to the physics in the 2D games. He made his own point irrelevant because neither game actually has a physics engine. What he is referring to is all collision detection. All of it.Sonic has a hit box. What happens when his hit box it touching the ground? What happens when it is on a downward slope? What happens when he is in a ball on a downwards slope? All of that has to be individually coded. The game doesn't have physics.
@papabungle Clearly, an average consumer will not know the difference when playing a game. Clearly, it is down to programming (whether you wanna call it collision detection or physics). Clearly, his video expresses his dislike of a certain aesthetic and we know that had the collision detection been coded differently, he may have not been disatisfied with what he would think of emperically as "physics." And for simple entertainment, there's nothing wrong with his observation. You're nit-picking.
@papabungle At assembly level you're dealing with binary -- meaning that down to a basic level it's all a case of "either this happens or that happens." So why even bother saying that it is anything but a physical representation even in 3D? Unless you ARE a programmer, there's no point using correct terms. And if you're a programmer, why be bitter about the general public's knowledge? Oh, I see... you think you're smart. I'm sure you are. In other words, you've been lucky. But you're not special
@j2e2c Would you be fine with a middle school student being your brain surgeon? No? Why Not? Because we expect those people to actually have knowledge about what they're getting involved with. If a middle schooler was performing brain surgery they'd go to jail, just like I think this man should for making a video about programming knowing nothing about the subject.
@papabungle There are plenty of free-lance programmers, but I'm sure there aren't so many free-lance brain surgeons. The reason is that brain surgeons don't have so much freedom simply because lives are at stake. A programmer can call things whatever he likes, so long as it works. Not saying he's a programmer because I don't know that. But it is true he was acting as though it is a serious issue (the sonic physics). So yeah, he should darn well be locked up! lol.
hmm thanks for this clear vidoe about whats actualy the problem,
i now realy do see wy people hate this game and i understand.
i havnt got the game yet but i do actualy intend on doing so becouse i can stand thing like that realy well and i can still enjoy th egames but i do see now whats the problem. lets hope sega gets it right next time.
(see comments on rants dont always have to be "BLABLABAL YOUR DOING IT WRONG CHUCK NORRIS WILL EAT YOU WITH LAZ0RZ!) (damm 4channers)
Now being serious, its incredible how inertia such a simple everyday thing made games like Mario, DK and Sonic the most awesome plataformers ever and the same people that made it fail to realize it and keep hitting us in the face more and more every day with poorly design games
Takashi Lizuka: "In this title, we have not done a straight port of the gameplay [from the Genesis games], but rather updated it with actions which could not be done in the previous titles, like ceiling-running. These changes probably made for a different feel to the longtime Sonic fans. We’re happy for feedback like this, and we’ll make sure we can improve the quality even further in upcoming titles."
You're right man, i have lost some hope in Episode 2 being better =(
@jadenyuki Just goes to show how out-of-touch the creators are with the original games- you could run on the ceiling in all four of the original Genesis titles (put to limited use in Sonic 1 and 2, more common in 3 & K)
@AGwolf2097 dude you got a frieaking 2d sonic game and now your complaining about it im 14 and im more mature about whis than you a 26 YEAR OLD you said that sega never pleases any old sonic fans well what about the collection games? dumbaass you know how stupidyou look compaining about this whining like a fucking 3 year old who spilt his icecream dumbnut GROW UP!!!
@AGwolf2097 It doesn`t matter what sonic looks like all that counts is how HE PLAYS am i speaking in an easy enough term you a fucknut like you could understand?
I realize I will get thumb's down for this.. and that's fine.. I had a genesis, SNES and Turbo Grafx 16 (and stupidly sold it for a pack of magic cards mid 90s). Loved Sonic.
I know this is crazy and blasphemous.. I thought the physics were much off at first but ended up liking Sonic 4 more than any previous sonic except 2. The level design I would say is pure brilliance for the most part.
If you could combine Sonic4 with Sonic 2s physics then all would be right.
Halfway through this video. I don't have access to my Wii right now but remember very much feeling like it took forever to gain up momentum or that Sonic was stuck in jello or something. I eventually got used to it.
Part of me would say.. what do you expect.. It's a different game. Different can still be good. Part of me would say they should have known better.
It's honestly not as bad as you are making it out to seem to be -- the game as a whole I mean.
I guess I can see where you're coming from when I think of the new Donkey Kong Country. A game that hyped me up as a kid and then I ended up beating the same day I rented it.. easily. The hype started to fade but I had fun.
Years later I discovered a lot more depth due to the perfect controls. Cartwheeling off the ledges = walking on air like cartoon characters before jumping.
The new donkey kong country game physics are SO different. The level design, like S4, is awesome tho.
It's a game damnit. A cartoon. When does it have to make sense? It's about fun.

thank you, now i see that sonic 4 IMPROVES on the old one as intended. so whats the problem?
PokemonGuyX 9 months ago
yea it looks pretty bad.
kkingcombo12345 9 months ago
I have to agree with him on this. Some may argue his age blaah blaah, presentation etc. But he puts together hard facts to the reality the game is pretty much half arsed. Even the fanboy versions (ie. sonic fan remix) a) appear more desirable, b) captures the speed and thrill which made the classics, classics and c) the music is what to be expected for a modern day interpretation. its just another prime example of Sega not listening to the people who made Sega... Their consumers and fans.
3dc 9 months ago
The game was simply garbage. Everything just felt bulky.
csaoxcs 10 months ago 2
Sure the physics aren't perfect, but they're a lot better than you make them out to be, and they don't ruin the game or anything. So what that they're not the same as they were in the genesis games? Why SHOULD it have the same physics as the genesis games? Examine the game on its OWN merits, and stop complaining about every little change that they make!
CthulhuInACan 10 months ago
@CthulhuInACan
321cheeseman 10 months ago 3
@CthulhuInACan Thing is that SEGA billed this as a sequel to Sonic 3 & Knuckles and said it'd be just like it and the other Genesis games because that's what people had been asking them for. So the game should be compared to the older ones to see how well SEGA delivered on their promises/marketing speeches of the game being like the old ones. Examining it on its own merits is just overlooking the fact that SEGA did not make the game they promised they were making.
mjc0961 9 months ago
@CthulhuInACan Its a sequel to Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles, that why it should have the same physics. You know, like all the other ones? The physics in Sonic 4 are garbage and dont make any sense.
TheTonyPainstation 9 months ago
They certainly don't make games like they used to. All people seem to care about now days are graphics. Wow, it's HD, who cares? When the controls suck, the graphics don't matter. You can paint a piece of shit gold, but it's still a piece of shit.
I haven't played the game, but I've got an inkling that the level design isn't what it could have been either.
I've played a lot of my old favorites recently. I sat back and was amazed at the QUALITY. They just don't make them like they used to.
28SNaKeS 10 months ago
y'know if you all want sonic 2 then just play sonic 2 its been released like a billion times and you know what it does play like the old ones .... iffy at best its your opinion to not like the game but its not a bad game sonic riders was bad sonic 4 is not liked
hatsunemikufanboy 10 months ago
@CrappingRainbows and your the same old man Genesis fanboy who can't appriciate a game that is nearly identical to the ones you grew up with.
pkstarstorm1up 10 months ago
@CrappingRainbows No I said that Sonic Colors is for all ages, It's storyline is the only thing that is meant to appear to children. Colors doesn't play itself, it only does that on certain sections of Starlight Carnival. and so what? I like Chris so I'm allowed to have him as my picture icon.
pkstarstorm1up 10 months ago
@CrappingRainbows They are making Sonic Generations because it's a cool idea to have another Time Traveling storyline like in Sonic 06, plus it's fun to have both. and Whether he's in his classic or modern design he will still play the same in the 2d Sonic games. There is nothing lol about my picture icon, I happen to like Chris Thorndyke alot, I think that he is a great Sonic character. t's not their abilities that make them cool it's their emotions and interations with the other characters.
pkstarstorm1up 10 months ago
@CrappingRainbows and yes I have played the Genesis games and yes they are near exact replicas, the gameplay is almost the same, the physics are the same if you don't let go of the control stick (Something your brain obviously can't figure out), and the story is nearly the same too.
pkstarstorm1up 10 months ago
I know how you can solve your problems with the physics, Just don't let go of the darn control stick! If you don't let go it plays exactly like the Genesis games and are alot of fun! You are such a fanbrat.
pkstarstorm1up 10 months ago
@pkstarstorm1up What? Having to force the player to hold the control stick to make the physics appear correct is absolutely ABSURD. Physics should be correct whether you are holding the control stick or letting go of it. If you trip and start to fall forward, will you automatically stop in your tracks and stand straight up if you look the other way?
What you suggest only covers up sloppy programming that the beta testers failed to catch.
28SNaKeS 10 months ago
@28SNaKeS Why would you want to let go of the dang control stick anyway? It doesn't make any sence and it's no big deal.
pkstarstorm1up 10 months ago
@pkstarstorm1up
"...It doesn't make any sence..."
28SNaKeS 10 months ago
@28SNaKeS My point is, no matter what the game LOOKS like, it's still got to FEEL right as well, no? If a game, ANY GAME not just Sonic, doesn't feel natural in the controls... it kind of takes away from the experience, doesn't it? Being a fan of classic Sonic myself, these games are supposed to have natural and fluid movement in order to maneuver around in the stages. They're not supposed to feel like an incomplete fan game you downloaded for free.
28SNaKeS 10 months ago
This is a video game we're talking about not a real life situation, the point is it's wrong to hate on this game and call it bad when you simply just don't let go of the control stick and it plays exactly like a Genesis Sonic game.
If there was a design problem this insignifigant in a Mario game then thier fans would just use the fix it quick solution and still have lots of fun playing the game. But no Genesis Sonic fans want everything to be perfect. Well no game is perfect so get over it.
pkstarstorm1up 10 months ago
@pkstarstorm1up I would have the same reaction to a new Mario platformer if the programmers took away from the fluidity of Mario's movement. Fluidity in movement is VITAL in platformers.
I'm not "hating on the game", I just believe the programmers and beta testers overlooked a major piece of what made Sonic games so fun to play.
And once again, HAVING TO HOLD THE CONTROL STICK TO COVER UP A FLAW is completely absurd.
It's sloppy programming.
28SNaKeS 10 months ago
@pkstarstorm1up Also, I'm sorry if I offend you here, but judging by your given age, I wouldn't expect you to fully understand anyway growing up in the age of 3D video games. 2D platformers always had a certain charm about them, but programmed carelessly, they could be horrible - 3rd party games, usually ;)
I'm not trying to hurt you with your age, there's nothing wrong with it. I just made an observation.
I'm surprised that SEGA didn't take a little more time to iron out the physics.
28SNaKeS 10 months ago
@28SNaKeS Not at all don't worry I've grown up with 3d platformers so I guess i kind of understand your complaints, but I feel that the complaints aren't enough to warrent that the game is garbage.
Episode 2 might address the problems that you have though.
pkstarstorm1up 10 months ago
@pkstarstorm1up Please stop getting me wrong. I didn't say the game is garbage, I haven't even played it myself. But, from the evidence of these two videos from a classic STH fan, like myself, I can say without regret that I will not be buying it. IF, this game came out for free or given to me as a gift, than sure, I WOULD play it ONLY because it is a Sonic game in it's original 2D format.
I'm sure the game at heart is good, but the physics alone would spoil it enough to not play long.
28SNaKeS 10 months ago
@pkstarstorm1up Oh, and I hope they do fix the physics in the second episode. If so, I WILL BE GETTING THIS GAME! :D
28SNaKeS 10 months ago
@pkstarstorm1up Thats retarded. You SHOULDNT have to hold the stick down. If youre rolled up in a ball on youre on a hill youll roll down the hill. Thats call being at an angle and letting gravity take over. Basic physics. To have to force it the whole time doesnt make any sense. Dont be a Sonic/Sega fanboy.
TheTonyPainstation 9 months ago
@TheTonyPainstation You are the fanboy because you're letting something as trivial as this make the game not fun for you. Why would you want to let go of the control stick when you are going down a hill anyway!? The only reason someone would do that is because they are purposefully trying to find something to make the game unenjoyable for them. It's 2d fanboys like you who are dragging the series down.
pkstarstorm1up 9 months ago
@CrappingRainbows This video is nothing but a big lie and he is complaining about nothing.

The game could be better, a lot better.
scrawnywhiteguys 1 year ago
Oh, and i laugh hard to the "stop whining, you just have to adapt to the physics flaws". So now, when a game has flaws, it's YOUR fault and YOU have to adapt to the flaws ? Try to be serious for a second...
DrYabon 1 year ago
@DrYabon
The challenge is in having to react fast, not dulling the game down in speed to create the illusion that the levels are longer.
scrawnywhiteguys 1 year ago
@scrawnywhiteguys
That's what i said in my post...

Glad to see I'm not the only one to feel this.
It's sad to see that fans does better than Sega.
Thumbs up, five star and thx.
DrYabon 1 year ago
Yeah They probably should have called it "Sonic The Rock" or "Sonic with too much Gravity" or "Sonic Sticks sideways on a vertical surface"
Every Point you made in this video is valid, in My opinion. The game is just kinda OK.. but I don't think it deserves the Number.

BLUELINKBR 1 year ago
"things change over time and you have to deal with it"
The thing is, this change is not good, and no Genesis Sonic fan wants to cope with this change. No one wants to cope with change for the sake of change (or change because of ignorance).
"whine and complain like a spoilt bitch"
I highly suggest you go back to Encyclopedia Dramatica if you're going to talk in such an arrogant and generally holier-than-thou manner.
sonicfeet 1 year ago
@sonicfeet the thing is, very few, or NONE of the original team who made the Genesis Sonic games were involved with Sonic 4. Expecting the exact same gameplay is ridiculous when you consider the direction of the other Sonic games. For example, the Sonic Advance games on GBA were decent but lacking. The Sonic Rush games... same thing. They felt different from the Genesis games. Seeing this continuation, what really were you expecting exactly? I admit I was harsh in my comment though.
TehOwchies 1 year ago
@TehOwchies this games name is SONIC 4, in case you didnt notice it.
jotenko 1 year ago
@jotenko Like I said, very few, if none of the original people who made the Genesis Sonic games actually made this one!
Think of an actor playing the role of a certain character. The actor leaves, for whatever reason, but the producers want the character to stay on in the show. So they replace the actor with a different one. The new actor can never live up to the standard of the original.
Anyone expecting the game to be EXACTLY like Sonic 3 is missing the point.
TehOwchies 1 year ago

Sega failed to do this by making some wishy washy attempt which also appeals to the younger generation.
murphy341 1 year ago
Man, if only I had watched this Video BEFORE I bought THAT crappy piece of GARBAGE. I mean, I've seen pics and vids of it before, and it looked really bad. But never had I expected it to be THAT bad.
There was no Demo version for the PS3 (in Germany, at least), so I thought just get it, every (official) reviewer said it's as good as the original ones and bought it.
I feel fucking ripped off by SEGA. I won't even bother completing it. It just blows.
Lesson learned: NEVER buy modern SEGA stuff.

Trust me! ;)

this is...just a wonderful, stupendous video. i salute you, and agree with everything this video says.

Skwigelf100 1 year ago
@Skwigelf100 Three? In case you didn't know, there are MORE videos in this site that bring up this flaw. Even Sonic Retro (and other professional sites) acknowleges it. So what do you prefer from Sega? To improve themselves based on these adressed gameplay flaws, or to not improve at all?
AguFungus 1 year ago
@AguFungus Sorry if the exaggeration wasn't obvious, but even if it's more, Sonic Team has no reason to care or listen. The gameplay flaws that this guys is talking about aren't really flaws. It's just how Sonic Team designed the game. They're not flaws, they're just deviations and changes from the old Genesis feel. I can see how that may be a little jarring for people who enjoyed the first one, but that's no reason to call a game shit.
Skwigelf100 1 year ago
@Skwigelf100 I really can't disagree here more. It's a direct sequel to the last installment of the original Sonic series and as murphy341 said, Sonic Team tried to please both the younger/"newer" AND old school Sonic players. Except they failed epical to give old school players the feeling of playing one of the original series.
Even for a non-Sonic game, it just feels so bad playing this game. Something I wouldn't even touch if it was for free. But hey, if YOU like it, enjoy it! :)
mensk1987 1 year ago
After watching your video I've realized something: You're bitching and moaning because it's harder to lose control of Sonic. Why do you care so much that when you let go of the control pad that Sonic won't keep on rolling around on his own?
Very clearly they intend you to keep holding a direction if you want to move in that direction. Is that so hard to understand? "Hey, I want to move forward. Maybe I should hold down forward!!!"
As Alpha 5 would have said. Aye aye aye aye aye.
WryGuy87 1 year ago
@WryGuy87 Because that's not how momentum works in a Sonic game. If you played the classics long enough, maybe you'll notice that there are things wrong in 4 with the mechanics that made the gameplay of the original trilogy make sense. And there are MORE videos that bring this up, even Sonic Retro.
Also, isn't ironic that even when someone adresses a gameplay flaw without sounding like a deranged fanboy, someone out there has to come to accuse them as such without looking at themselves?
AguFungus 1 year ago
@AguFungus I have played the classic games plenty. The simple fact of the matter is that he's complaining about a problem that is solved by holding down left or right, and he's calling people idiots over it. Sorry, but he does sound like a deranged fanboy.
It's ridiculous that this is all it takes to ruin a game for somebody.
WryGuy87 1 year ago
@WryGuy87 Also, if you're LAUNCHED forward (like from a cannon), you're not expected to press the forward button, because of the momentum there, which makes sense. Unfortunately, because of the lack of momentum, the developers didn't get this right either.
AguFungus 1 year ago
@AguFungus I understand that the physics are less realistic. It's also a videogame. These controls essentially give you more control over Sonic than before, and people are complaining.
WryGuy87 1 year ago

No gravity. (not aimed at video)
thesoundofgrafix 1 year ago
Wow.

RohGamer 1 year ago
oh god oh god oh god i have been reading more and more comments from the stupid close minded retards, are you call stuck in the early 90's or something, there is nothing wrong with the continuity or flow of sonic 4 i can blast through the levels with out being hurt or grinding to a halt with ease, the problem isn't the phyics or the controls the problem is your refusal to do anything but what you did in the early 90's megadrive sonic games, news flash, WE AREN'T PLAYING MEGADRIVES ANYMORE.
minicook111 1 year ago
@minicook111 yeah sure, it plays OK, but it still begs the question why they deliberately made him move physically akward! What reason can there be to do this? It looks like THIS game's controls are from the 90's!
rexonaforwomen 1 year ago
@rexonaforwomen he only really moves physically akward when you play it like the megadrive games once i got used to it i had no problems which is why i ranted away here, it seems alot of people here have this mental block which is stopping them from enjoying this game, it could be improved however familia locals and boss' where my biggest complaint, that and the fact they refuse to give dr robotnik his former title back.
minicook111 1 year ago
i can see what you are saying but you are basically complaining that the game plays DIFFERENTLY, to the old games, i am a huge fan of sonic i was brought up on a diet of him bassically, as far as i can see the problem you have is the fact you are completely close minded and averse to change i'm guessing you probally hated the sonic advance and sonic rush games, i'm sorry but the phyics of this game are not WRONG they are just DIFFERENT, why don't you just grow up, get used to it, and have fun
minicook111 1 year ago
You have no idea how much you have missed the point of this video.
You say the video uploader can't accept change-- he won't here, because this change involves programming a game with physics that are not normal for this franchise and are incorrect in general.
You say the physics are "DIFFERENT," and not incorrect-- I have already made my point about this one paragraph ago.
(CONTINUED...)
sonicfeet 1 year ago
Then, you end the comment by calling the creator immature, and command him to cope with the physics and force him to feel a specific mood (which he is incapable of having-- not because he is a "retrofag-- " but because he has a NEGATIVE OPINION of the game)-- just because you tell him to cope with the physics does not mean he will obey you and immediately change his opinion to suit your bigoted ways (he sure as hell won't after telling him to "grow up").
(Read the comment I made before this)
sonicfeet 1 year ago
@sonicfeet not normal for this franchise? what about sonic rush? It's from the sonic franchise too. And well, the game doesn't get horrible to the point that you can't play it just because of the physics, you can have tons of fun with this game. If YOU can't have fun with that physics so shut up and go play Genesis games, and do what any human should do, seek your own fun. For me both genesis games and this game are fun, it's not an "OMG, HE STOPS MOVING IN THE AIR" that is gonna make me stop...
BLUELINKBR 1 year ago
@sonicfeet ...stop having fun.

Suicide is the only option for someone as incredibly stupid as you.
papabungle 1 year ago 24
@papabungle The laws of physics apply to the third dimension and even 3D games are just a representation of a physical world. I disagree with your comment. Besides what else would you call a 2D simulation of physics. Are you a troll, seriously?
j2e2c 1 year ago
@j2e2c
I already told you. 2D games do not have physics. That is something exclusive to 3D games. 2D games have collision detection, which is completely different. This guy has no idea what he is talking about and as such, shouldn't be talking. Can you not read?
papabungle 1 year ago
@papabungle Semantics. Regardless of what you call it, the momentum/physics/collision detection in this game is awful, and disgraces the Sonic the Hedgehog name.
Also, if you want anyone to take you seriously, stop with the ad hominem attacks.
NerfDeathcoil 1 year ago
@NerfDeathcoil
Grow up. There is nothing wrong with expecting people to have a decent understanding of what they are talking about if they are going to discuss it. Also, this isn't semantics. Collision detection and physics are completely different. You should consider attempting suicide for saying something that profoundly stupid.
papabungle 1 year ago
@papabungle
Yeah leave out the beast part and that's whats sonic 3d is all about
ajtemp2000 1 year ago
@ajtemp2000
You're as big of a toad as the poster of the video.
papabungle 1 year ago
@papabungle
shut up 3-d objects, images, the so called weight of the object is created through a computer. If not physics what do you call it correct me for using the wrong term but the logic stands. Get a life! Your bias comments devoid of any logic or rather relevance to the point being conveyed by the video.
ajtemp2000 1 year ago
@ajtemp2000 His point is that the physics are poor or at least dissimilar to the physics in the 2D games. He made his own point irrelevant because neither game actually has a physics engine. What he is referring to is all collision detection. All of it.Sonic has a hit box. What happens when his hit box it touching the ground? What happens when it is on a downward slope? What happens when he is in a ball on a downwards slope? All of that has to be individually coded. The game doesn't have physics.
papabungle 1 year ago
@papabungle Clearly, an average consumer will not know the difference when playing a game. Clearly, it is down to programming (whether you wanna call it collision detection or physics). Clearly, his video expresses his dislike of a certain aesthetic and we know that had the collision detection been coded differently, he may have not been disatisfied with what he would think of emperically as "physics." And for simple entertainment, there's nothing wrong with his observation. You're nit-picking.
j2e2c 1 year ago
@papabungle At assembly level you're dealing with binary -- meaning that down to a basic level it's all a case of "either this happens or that happens." So why even bother saying that it is anything but a physical representation even in 3D? Unless you ARE a programmer, there's no point using correct terms. And if you're a programmer, why be bitter about the general public's knowledge? Oh, I see... you think you're smart. I'm sure you are. In other words, you've been lucky. But you're not special
j2e2c 1 year ago
@j2e2c Would you be fine with a middle school student being your brain surgeon? No? Why Not? Because we expect those people to actually have knowledge about what they're getting involved with. If a middle schooler was performing brain surgery they'd go to jail, just like I think this man should for making a video about programming knowing nothing about the subject.
papabungle 1 year ago
@papabungle There are plenty of free-lance programmers, but I'm sure there aren't so many free-lance brain surgeons. The reason is that brain surgeons don't have so much freedom simply because lives are at stake. A programmer can call things whatever he likes, so long as it works. Not saying he's a programmer because I don't know that. But it is true he was acting as though it is a serious issue (the sonic physics). So yeah, he should darn well be locked up! lol.
j2e2c 1 year ago
@j2e2c
I don't even think he is a programmer of any type, but its nice to see you agree.

I realize I will get thumb's down for this.. and that's fine.. I had a genesis, SNES and Turbo Grafx 16 (and stupidly sold it for a pack of magic cards mid 90s). Loved Sonic.
I know this is crazy and blasphemous.. I thought the physics were much off at first but ended up liking Sonic 4 more than any previous sonic except 2. The level design I would say is pure brilliance for the most part.
If you could combine Sonic4 with Sonic 2s physics then all would be right.

Continuation:
Halfway through this video. I don't have access to my Wii right now but remember very much feeling like it took forever to gain up momentum or that Sonic was stuck in jello or something. I eventually got used to it.
Part of me would say.. what do you expect.. It's a different game. Different can still be good. Part of me would say they should have known better.
It's honestly not as bad as you are making it out to seem to be -- the game as a whole I mean.
LanIost 1 year ago
Continuation 2:
I guess I can see where you're coming from when I think of the new Donkey Kong Country. A game that hyped me up as a kid and then I ended up beating the same day I rented it.. easily. The hype started to fade but I had fun.
Years later I discovered a lot more depth due to the perfect controls. Cartwheeling off the ledges = walking on air like cartoon characters before jumping.
The new donkey kong country game physics are SO different. The level design, like S4, is awesome tho.
