@Dylemus Garand came to the US as a child, was a citizen, and designed the rifle working in America. If he wasn't American, nobody is (as it is that theorized native americans came to the continent on an ancient land bridge, making them foreign too).
@JohnQuincyAdams1 yeah i still would not consider it an american mostly because i believe the design judges it all even though it was use by the allies
@MrDip02 - It was made in America and used by American soldiers for many years. That makes it pretty American. Let's not split hairs here, as either way, it really doesn't matter.
@LCBarnett95 hey man i know you dont owe me anything but if you type these words into your youtube browser it will explain nearly to a T what americans believe about gun ownership..."WHAT WE BELIEVE PART 5 GUN OWNERSHIP" it should be the top one by Bill Whittle it takes about 8 and 1/2 mins but it will explain much of what we americans hold to be true. and it applys to your nation as well. if you can do me this one favor i will watch any counter video you suggest.
the enfield was phased out because the manafacturers refused to continue making them and the ones we had were showing their age. also we needed a gun with a higher rate of fire
@Lonewolf051 the m1 garand was so shit us Brits turned it down it was inaccurate and unreliable. A British infantryman with a trust Lee Enfield could fire at the same rate of fire as the garand yet be like 20 times more accurate
@LCBarnett95 LOL ok troll. as someone who has ACTUALLY fired both the M-1 garand AND lee enfield mk4. i will compare the plusses and minuses of both. first the mk4 IS an accurate platform to be sure with excellent sights...but it is under powered. and range is only adequate. its ten round magazine is awesome for a bolt action. however the 30-06 is VASTLY superior in both power and range and is only two rounds less capacity. and the semi auto makes it more firepower. sights are dead on to 500 yds
@LCBarnett95 the mk4 was the most advanced bolt action probably ever mass produced. but it pales in comparison to the garand in all the major criteria. power range firepower. and can only manage to equall in accuracy. so hands down m-1 wins. brits tried to snub the tommy gun too till they came to their senses. and adopted it
@amyhuk no we only adopted it out of sheer lack of numbers of sub machine guns until we got the sten which was also better than the tommy gun. the garand is shit and you know it your facts must come from joke book
@amyhuk fired both, m1 garand is not as smooth and is less accurate. i fired 5 rounds on both and i got all shots in the centre circle on the enfiled and totally missed wiht the garand. im part of a gun club soo
@LCBarnett95 your lack of ability is not exactly a testimonial. when i first shot the enfield i was way off too. but then i ADJUSTED THE SIGHTS to my likeing and started drilling nails. some random person giving you some random rifle is not exactly a recipee for precision marksmanship.
@amyhuk considering ive been shooting for 20 years i think that you have no right to question my shooting skills. i did adjust the sight on the garand and it was still crap
@LCBarnett95 ive been shooting for 27 years...and i dont have to go to the range i can shoot right out my back door for hours on end. look i understand you have patriotic feelings for your rifle. and i will admit it is a fine rifle. and i will even go as far as to say it is better than the mini 14. i WANT to like the mini 14 but it just isnt accurate. but the garand is VERY accurate. and powerfull and has a higher rate of fire to the enfield sorry but advantage garand
@amyhuk see thats where you are wrongbecause it is not very good youre the one being patriotic. some of us dont have the right to let off a couple of rounds in our back garden as i dont live in america. no wonder you have so much crime you can buy an ak-47 for like 50 dollars
@LCBarnett95 the only reason the garand isnt still in service is because the lack of a detatchable magazine. and you cant top off the box clip. but back then when stacked against most bolt actions which only held 5 rounds it was more than adequet. in your youtube browser type in "garand vs enfield" and choose the mail call one for proof of the garands superiority. the smle blows the springfield 03 away but doesnt even come close to the garand
@LCBarnett95 and their are MANY rifles more accurate thean an enfield. the enfields main claim to fame is the firepower available with the 10 round magazine with a bolt action. an ar-15 sks...heck even a mosin nagant is more accurate than an enfield.
@LCBarnett95 if the enfield was a superior rifle it would still be in service...actually now that i think of it i would choose an smle over an L-85 any day of the millenium. i hate bull pup configurations
@TheMeanSgtPlaysPiano Because he was already a long-time American citizen working for Springfield Armory. the Canadians were under the British crown, and only used British weapons and ammunition, the M1 was an American rifle, that used American 30-06. Thats why the US has the best, most advanced weapons in WWII, because they werent tied down to the British empire and could make any weapons they felt like.
@MaxFlared Nah, makes no difference when there's guns goin off all over the place, however there is a weakness to the M1 Garand; the op rod. After so much use it might start to effect reliability. Other than that, and it's 10-11 lb weight, it's a great rifle. 8 rounds is plenty capacity when your dealing with .30-06, and it's a fast reload because the clip ejects itself. Stick one back in, and you don't even have to press a bolt release. :) Might take all of 3 seconds if you grab the clip fast.
This rifle is not exactly the same spec as a USGI rifle as the receiver on the new production S.A. Inc, guns is a casting made overseas. Original GI receivers were forged.
Also, in regard to the controversy of the ping...during any kind of a firefight, with shots being fired all over the place, grenades and mortar rounds exploding like crazy, officers and troops yelling at each other and the screams of the dying and the wounded, can someone please explain to me just how in the hell the enemy was supposed to hear that ping and isolate that out of all the other noise and chaos going on?
@superhornet69 You cant, I reenact both American and German, and on the battlefield, the ping is utterly impossible to hear, even at 10 feet from the rifle being shot on grass, you cant really hear it, plus theres clips being ejected all over the place, and soldiers relocating and ducking back behind cover, making it impossible to zero in on a specific target based on the sound (thats impossible to hear anyways). Noone cares about the sound, you cant hear it, and it means nothing in battle.
I've seen what that nice, big .30-06 round does to deer and elk. Imagine hitting a human in the chest or head with it...damn!! No wonder the M1 kicked ass in Europe and the Pacific during WW2. Would sure hate to be on the receiving end of that bad boy.
@bas949 The very first ones were made by springfield but during the war they were made by all kinds of factorys to kick them out. There are Garands out there with International Harvester and General Motors stamps on them
As a soldier in close quarters combat, you are trained to be as observant as possible, in many cases looking for the little details and nuances on a map planning a battle or in the heat of one were and are in many cases the difference between life and death, victory and failure. You clearly know sweat little about war and its realities.
@Hawkeye323232 Yeah, too bad in real combat, due to gunfire and distance, the enemy would just see the clip pop out with no sound, even at a clos 20 yards you cant hear the sound. Its a cute myth, but in the end 99.999% of the time it means nothing to anyone.
@LoneWolf051 Close quarters combat, like house to house, when your enemy is less than 10 meter away clearing rooms, is real combat. So no it's really not a myth, not all fire fights took place at long range, in urban combat sometimes you enemy is much closer than you think.
@Hawkeye323232 Which is why SMGs and Carbines mostly cleared out rooms and houses, and soldiers always have a squad to clear a house, half of which had M1s so if the enemy heas a ping, it wont mean anything, since theres still the whole squad loaded and locked.
@LoneWolf051 In a platoon there would be maybe 2-3 s.m.g's 1-2 bar rifles, needless to say, the very distinctive ping of the clip popping out did cost many lives, it is a point of historical fact, it's even mentioned in an episode of top ten, mentioned by veteran's, but I guess their all lying right.
@Hawkeye323232 Top ten has no veterans, just armchair "experts" and that show is already heavily criticized for its inaccuracies. I've been around M-1s all my life, and the ping cant even be heard at 20 yards, even in quiet conditions, all you see is the clip pop out with no sound. I mean just watch the first video in my favorites list on my profile, look at the last 30 seconds of it, do you really think your hear those pings on the other side of that field? the camera cant even hear them.
@Hawkeye323232 All the veterans I've talked to, including my own grandfathers never mentoned the ping as something to be worried about, you'd thik that if the ping was this HUGE flaw that all the vets would mention it, yet none do. The closest thing to them mentioning it as a problem would be an interview I did a few years back, this veteran said there was some concern in boot camp when they first used the rifle, that the ping would let the enemy know they're out.
@LoneWolf051 I never said it was a huge problem, if it was the rifle would have been replaced. But the fact still remains that SOME lost their lives dew to the clip ejection giving them away.
@Hawkeye323232 Reloading ANY weapon is dangerous, like you take the magazine out, and the enemy sees you fidding around trying to find another one, why not just pop up and kill the defenceless soldier? Theres a million other things the enemy and you focus on in urban combat than playing detective with any little metalic pinging noise you hear, the German veterans said theres just no time to pay attention or care in the heat of battle.
@Hawkeye323232 Yes theres a few GIs that have been killed in close combat, but theres a million other things that will kill you before the ping does, like the flag on your shoulder, the uniform you wear, running between cover positions, 99% of the time you died like that, theres pings everywhere, making it near impossible to actually hear it, and to actually zero in on that specific soldier, and somehow survive everyone else's fire, JUST to shoot tat on guy, the enemy isnt that dumb.
@Hawkeye323232 But having everyone say "oh yeah that ping got SOOOO many troops killed" or "the ping is a major flaw", or "that's what the enemy always listened for" is just ridiculous, that's the least threatening thing on the battlefield, so harmless that all the veterans German and American, said that nobody cared or payed attention too 99% of the time, you just dont have time to listen for it, everything is so loud, and chaotic and fast moving.
@LoneWolf051 The soldiers hated the ping at first but then realized they could carry empty enblocks around and fire a couple of shots then throw one down and wait for the germans to pop their heads up when they heard the ping.....after that it was just adding notches to your rifle for your number of kills
@Hawkeye323232 and as I stated with lonewolf051 earlier the ping was easily duplicated by throwing an empty enblock on the ground, so, in all actuality, there were probably a lot more germans killed by the ping than GI's
@Hawkeye323232 Once they got on the firing line at the rifle range, the ping was completely drowned out, they themselves could barely hear it. Let alone an enemy 200 yards away. It was quickly known that it was not a problem, and If an enemy magically inherited Superman's super sonic hearing ability, and actually heard the ping in the typical outdoor firefight, what did it mean? it meant 1 man is out, and is no reason to poke your head up, the whole squad or platoon is still firing at you.
@LoneWolf051 again not all combat took place at great range, m1 garand regularly saw combat at ranges less than 10 meters, Italy, Sicily, against the Japanese, in towns and villages across Europe, and particularly Berlin. Super good hearing is not needed when you very close, and the m1 garand saw lots of up close combat. Ask veterans, both American and German, look up the problem on sites other than Youtube. Plus the clip ejection in this video is very pronounced and not 'drowned out'.
@Hawkeye323232 I have talked to German veterans aswell, they said theres just no real time in urban combat to try to pick out what may or may not be a ping sound, plus theres ping going off all over, on top on that theres just too much to focus on, firing and maneuvering, recieving and giving orders. From the German veterans testimony, they didnt really notice, or care for that matter if they heard a ping or two, theres just so much chaos going on to take the time to hunt down a possible ping.
@Hawkeye323232 The M1 was never in combat in Berlin. Plus this video is 3 feet away, on concrete, and in quiet conditions, of course the ping will be loud to the cameraman.
Even in close combat, from veterans on both sides, they didnt say really anything about trying to find out what sound may have been a ping, or not. Like the final battle in Saving Private Ryan, loud, fast paced chaos like that, theres no time to notice or care if you hear some ping from some soldier.
@LoneWolf051 exactly...just watch band of brothers when they are fighting in the trenches outside carrentan.....no way you could tell where the ping came from with all that fire and 2-3 full companies all firing as well.
@Jksnk101 I know, I've done tons of reenactments and the ping outdoors in a combat, or even mock-combat, is pretty much impossible to hear, plus it only means one man is out, not the whole platoon.
whats really funny is you can buy an authentic ww2, korean, or postwar m1 garand from the CMP for about half the price. Springfield, winchester, HRA. i got a brand new original Springfield armor M1 garand that was built in 1955 for 600$. it wasnt used in any war, but theres ww2 garands as well same price, more history, not like this REPRODUCTION m1 garand
ok, if not i was about to go apeshit on someone, my grandfather owns a used one but he dosent want to shoot it because it would be worthless to have a USED by an actual soldier M1 Garand, he wants it because he knows the last person to shoot this weapon was an american soldier
@themailman43 ya that would really REALLY suck. This rifle can shoot through the trunks of trees, cant imagine what that does to a torso. But the 5.56 would suck too, that sucker spins like a bandsaw
Funny thing is that the american army used that ping against their enemy. They throwed an empty magazine or what it's called on the ground and the enemy looked up and the americans shot them.
Socalled M-1 Garand thumb can only happen when the rifle is empty of cartridges .Pull the op rod back, depress the bullet guide, ease the bolt forward past the bullet guide, move your thumb, and let go of the op rod. No problem and no heavily wounded thumb!! It really does hurt. You will be heard all the way back to the mess tent!!
I still have the iron wich my grandfather had in his pocket during WW2. He used that iron a lot when he was fighting Germans one on one. He threw the iron ... German head poped up and ... Blam head gone.
@pdqscorpion88 I'm not sure what you mean because i'm not the only one who uses this account. but if it was something offensive, i apologize for whatever reason.
The best moment is when the last round is shot and that awesome and lovely "clank" comes out... yesssssss

LoneWolf051 1 year ago
@LoneWolf051 Close quarters combat, like house to house, when your enemy is less than 10 meter away clearing rooms, is real combat. So no it's really not a myth, not all fire fights took place at long range, in urban combat sometimes you enemy is much closer than you think.
Hawkeye323232 1 year ago
@Hawkeye323232 Which is why SMGs and Carbines mostly cleared out rooms and houses, and soldiers always have a squad to clear a house, half of which had M1s so if the enemy heas a ping, it wont mean anything, since theres still the whole squad loaded and locked.
LoneWolf051 1 year ago
@LoneWolf051 In a platoon there would be maybe 2-3 s.m.g's 1-2 bar rifles, needless to say, the very distinctive ping of the clip popping out did cost many lives, it is a point of historical fact, it's even mentioned in an episode of top ten, mentioned by veteran's, but I guess their all lying right.
Hawkeye323232 1 year ago
@Hawkeye323232 Top ten has no veterans, just armchair "experts" and that show is already heavily criticized for its inaccuracies. I've been around M-1s all my life, and the ping cant even be heard at 20 yards, even in quiet conditions, all you see is the clip pop out with no sound. I mean just watch the first video in my favorites list on my profile, look at the last 30 seconds of it, do you really think your hear those pings on the other side of that field? the camera cant even hear them.
LoneWolf051 1 year ago
@LoneWolf051 Actually watch the whole video, its very detailed.
LoneWolf051 1 year ago
@Hawkeye323232 All the veterans I've talked to, including my own grandfathers never mentoned the ping as something to be worried about, you'd thik that if the ping was this HUGE flaw that all the vets would mention it, yet none do. The closest thing to them mentioning it as a problem would be an interview I did a few years back, this veteran said there was some concern in boot camp when they first used the rifle, that the ping would let the enemy know they're out.
LoneWolf051 1 year ago
@LoneWolf051 I never said it was a huge problem, if it was the rifle would have been replaced. But the fact still remains that SOME lost their lives dew to the clip ejection giving them away.
Hawkeye323232 1 year ago
@Hawkeye323232 Reloading ANY weapon is dangerous, like you take the magazine out, and the enemy sees you fidding around trying to find another one, why not just pop up and kill the defenceless soldier? Theres a million other things the enemy and you focus on in urban combat than playing detective with any little metalic pinging noise you hear, the German veterans said theres just no time to pay attention or care in the heat of battle.
LoneWolf051 1 year ago
@Hawkeye323232 Yes theres a few GIs that have been killed in close combat, but theres a million other things that will kill you before the ping does, like the flag on your shoulder, the uniform you wear, running between cover positions, 99% of the time you died like that, theres pings everywhere, making it near impossible to actually hear it, and to actually zero in on that specific soldier, and somehow survive everyone else's fire, JUST to shoot tat on guy, the enemy isnt that dumb.
LoneWolf051 1 year ago
@Hawkeye323232 But having everyone say "oh yeah that ping got SOOOO many troops killed" or "the ping is a major flaw", or "that's what the enemy always listened for" is just ridiculous, that's the least threatening thing on the battlefield, so harmless that all the veterans German and American, said that nobody cared or payed attention too 99% of the time, you just dont have time to listen for it, everything is so loud, and chaotic and fast moving.
LoneWolf051 1 year ago
@LoneWolf051 The soldiers hated the ping at first but then realized they could carry empty enblocks around and fire a couple of shots then throw one down and wait for the germans to pop their heads up when they heard the ping.....after that it was just adding notches to your rifle for your number of kills
Jksnk101 1 year ago
@Hawkeye323232 and as I stated with lonewolf051 earlier the ping was easily duplicated by throwing an empty enblock on the ground, so, in all actuality, there were probably a lot more germans killed by the ping than GI's
Jksnk101 1 year ago
@Jksnk101 That's an obvious fact even if they were not arbitrarily tossing empties.
Hawkeye323232 1 year ago
@Hawkeye323232 Once they got on the firing line at the rifle range, the ping was completely drowned out, they themselves could barely hear it. Let alone an enemy 200 yards away. It was quickly known that it was not a problem, and If an enemy magically inherited Superman's super sonic hearing ability, and actually heard the ping in the typical outdoor firefight, what did it mean? it meant 1 man is out, and is no reason to poke your head up, the whole squad or platoon is still firing at you.
LoneWolf051 1 year ago
@LoneWolf051 again not all combat took place at great range, m1 garand regularly saw combat at ranges less than 10 meters, Italy, Sicily, against the Japanese, in towns and villages across Europe, and particularly Berlin. Super good hearing is not needed when you very close, and the m1 garand saw lots of up close combat. Ask veterans, both American and German, look up the problem on sites other than Youtube. Plus the clip ejection in this video is very pronounced and not 'drowned out'.
Hawkeye323232 1 year ago
@Hawkeye323232 I have talked to German veterans aswell, they said theres just no real time in urban combat to try to pick out what may or may not be a ping sound, plus theres ping going off all over, on top on that theres just too much to focus on, firing and maneuvering, recieving and giving orders. From the German veterans testimony, they didnt really notice, or care for that matter if they heard a ping or two, theres just so much chaos going on to take the time to hunt down a possible ping.
LoneWolf051 1 year ago
@Hawkeye323232 The M1 was never in combat in Berlin. Plus this video is 3 feet away, on concrete, and in quiet conditions, of course the ping will be loud to the cameraman.
Even in close combat, from veterans on both sides, they didnt say really anything about trying to find out what sound may have been a ping, or not. Like the final battle in Saving Private Ryan, loud, fast paced chaos like that, theres no time to notice or care if you hear some ping from some soldier.
LoneWolf051 1 year ago
@LoneWolf051 exactly...just watch band of brothers when they are fighting in the trenches outside carrentan.....no way you could tell where the ping came from with all that fire and 2-3 full companies all firing as well.
Jksnk101 1 year ago
@Jksnk101 I know, I've done tons of reenactments and the ping outdoors in a combat, or even mock-combat, is pretty much impossible to hear, plus it only means one man is out, not the whole platoon.
LoneWolf051 1 year ago
@LoneWolf051 haha i figured you did. Just adding to your argument haha

whats really funny is you can buy an authentic ww2, korean, or postwar m1 garand from the CMP for about half the price. Springfield, winchester, HRA. i got a brand new original Springfield armor M1 garand that was built in 1955 for 600$. it wasnt used in any war, but theres ww2 garands as well same price, more history, not like this REPRODUCTION m1 garand

@themailman43
the germans had better weapons than the americans ;)
in fact, americans often switched their weapons with the german weapons when they killed a german ;)

METALLIMAN545 1 year ago
@axoliminator
Not as far as rifles, unless it had a zeiss scope they didn't bother.
Also tell it to Audi Murphy, the only time he dropped his Garand was when he grabbed a mounted MG.
The only obviously superior weapons were the Mauser pistol and MG 42 series, Americans had the best semi auto rifles.
dukenukemthreed 1 year ago
only bad thing about the ping is it lets the enemy know your guns not loaded
NintyGuy999 1 year ago
@NintyGuy999
Funny thing is that the american army used that ping against their enemy. They throwed an empty magazine or what it's called on the ground and the enemy looked up and the americans shot them.
AbyssOfTheForgotten 1 year ago
@AbyssOfTheForgotten In reality though, that only happened once or twice, nowadays everyone thinks its some common trick that was always done, WRONG
To the enemy, a single ping sound doesnt mean anything, it means 1 soldier is out, not the whole platoon.

PinkPinkie2000 1 year ago
Socalled M-1 Garand thumb can only happen when the rifle is empty of cartridges .Pull the op rod back, depress the bullet guide, ease the bolt forward past the bullet guide, move your thumb, and let go of the op rod. No problem and no heavily wounded thumb!! It really does hurt. You will be heard all the way back to the mess tent!!
