  • What exactly is foaming wrap? Are are there any substitutes for it? (Just in case its hard to find)

  • @dramaindulged It's a mousse that you can use as a setting lotion. Use a flexible hold gel or a spray setting lotion (like Lottabody) if you like.

  • show how you did her makeup!

  • @HotButterOnToast I have. See my 'Clara Bow' tutorial in the Starlet Series, here on my channel. :)

  • my boyfriend and i are going to a 1930s club in LA for our 3 year anniversary and instead of my 1940s look i usually have i wanted to do this BUUUUUT i have betty bangs suggestions on how to get those bangs into the wave?

  • @adg135 I wouldnt bother hiding them. Bangs were worn in the 30's too. Just don't accentuate the u-shape as much. You can even do something like my Clara Bow tutorial and skip the fingerwaving altogether. haha

  • Thank you for this! I have been dying to learn how to make an authentic 1920's hairstyle. I'll try it out sometime and let you know what came out :)

  • I've never been able to get the ridges! My compromise is using the long metal duckbill clips to hold the indented parts of the wave in place while pulling the wave area toward my face. All of this done the night before, with Proclaim Super Setting Lotion and a bandana around my head to keep the clips in place. Next time I try fingerwaving, I'm going to try your method because I really want those ridges darn it!

  • i might try this look but i have long hair, any sugestions for my long hair in the back?

  • @laylafrackiewicz this look isnt really meant for long hair but for Veronia Lake style waves, use this technique and sponge roll or pincurl the ends so the weight of your hair doesnt pull the waves out as they set.

  • If you don't move around too much when you sleep, I bet you could just go to bed with all the clips in if you don't have a dryer to sit under.

  • Yeah, I'm an 'acrobatic' sleeper so this would never work on me at night. :)

  • I would LOVE to see more about finger waving, I'm graduating from nursing school in april and want to do fingerwaves for my graduation :) I've mastered many other vintage hairstyles but have never been able to get fingerwaving right! Thanks so much for the awesome video, keep them coming!! -Your follower since you only had like 5 vids. :)

  • Very simple and simple is great! Thank you for this :o)

  • I like this look I used wear it alot I might start back again thank you, it is goog to try something different. Thank you!!!

  • Excellent tutorial. Very straight to the point. Your friend looks like she traveled in a time machine from the 1920s!! :D

    Amazing!

  • I love your clear directions--and the outcome here. If you do end up shooting another video about doing this w/clips, I'd love to see a "before" shot of what the model's natural hair looks like!

  • Wonderful idea...thanks!

  • Wow, that's soooo pretty!!

If my hair wasn't that straight and not that long I would try fingerwaving instantly. Great job. Thank you so much! You're a doll.

  • I am so glad you did this video, thank you very much, I've been waiting for it for a long time. My hair is straight so I'll probably go mad untill I get it right but ... it's one of my favourite looks, I have to try it. Again, tank you!

  • Great work! She reminds me of Betty Boop!

  • Thanks so much for this! It turned out lovely :) I have very curly hair naturally, so I think my hair will stay like this for ages once I try it out lol

also, where can I get that setting lotion?

  • I got mine at Wal mart, Ashley.

  • so if this hairstyle wasn't really done on ladies with straight hair because it was more difficult, then what kind of style did they do for them?

  • They either got a permanant wave or they wore it straight. Sometimes they did soft face framing layers. If they fingerwaved, it was just for short periods of time.

  • Excellent waves lady ! finger waves are so challenging you should go to beauty school you would love it...you know when you aren't busy raising kids ..work ing and making video's LOL

  • I might...I don't know. There are alot of things about beauty school I have no interest in...haha

  • if you think straight hair is hard to fingerwave, try curly. It's SO difficult. Luckily, when my hair is wet and I comb it with a rat-tail comb, you can see all the natural ridges in my hair.

  • Tori's hair is really curly but w/ the setting lotion, it relaxed the curl alot. But fingerwaving in the deep ridges is actually easier w/ curly hair, if it is properly cut.

  • when it comes to finger waves i prefer a more severe look deeper ridged look. but this is a good starter vid! I was wondering if you know how to do the hairstyle at 6:58? like Notice on the pic that the front of Rubys hair is lifted and waves to the side. Where as when you did your friends hair, her bangs were flat and on the side.

  • Yes, the deep ridged waves will come eventually; they're much easier to do w/ the waving combs I don't pretend to be a master of this style or any style, but I am honing my skills and will bring all of you along w/ me.

Ruby's bangs in that photo are pretty short. If you notice, the lifted area is actually short bangs swept back and them pushed forward to form a wave. The rest of the hair is naturally curly (probably) and layered.

  • My mom's coworker did there for me for Halloween, setting lotion is like liquid concrete haha, good tutorial :)

  • <3 <3 <3

I love how soft you made it look! I cannot WAIT for the second edition to this.

  • She looks fantastic! Jealous of her 20s era face! You did an awesome job on her hair!

  • i'm gonna send you the pictures they gave us in beauty school for fingers waves. it might cut down on the million questions your gonna get from this video! haha!

  • Thanks! I have my styling books but I don't believe they use 1930's textbooks in beauty school anymore. LOL

  • could use a blow drier on a low setting to dry the hair instead of the drier used in this video?

  • I'd have to say no. It would be very difficult to do that since it took ovr an hour to dry it w/ my hooded dryer and that was even heating all over. You would probably have to wait about 8 hrs for the hair to dry thoroughly by air.

  • Fabulous!

I love all your videos so much! :) x

  • The makeup and feather clip really completes the look! Absolutely gorgeous :) Lovely model too!

  • I know I don't really commet much on your vids. I just wanted you to know that I love what you do so much. It just seems so different from everyone else and it really sets you apart, in a good way though. Thanks for all the awesome info you share.

  • yea we practice on straight hair too. its part of the stateboard. i never seem to have a problem between straight and curly hair

  • That's good. :) I do know that hair schools require that you pass this test on straight hair. The reason for that is that it is more challenging. However, if you don't see a difference then you must be naturally talented...and I think that's wonderful.

  • Beautiful!

  • looooooove this!! thank you!! :) xx

  • I didnt say you couldnt do it on straight hair, I said that it is not meant for straight hair. According to my vintage styling books, this was rarely attempted on the straight haired starlets for the simple reason that the waves have to be constructed from scratch and would be difficult to maintain.

  • great video. thanks so much! I like how you break down the process and make it seem easy to do. I have seen some vids and I just get lost. I was easily abel to follow your instruction. Of course im very happy since I learned something new. thanks again.

  • Wow!! Your model is *so authentic looking that it's almost eery seeing her in a modern day setting. She looks straight out of an old black and white photo. She's gorgeous!

Thanks for the tutorial, it really does make it look so easy. My sister and I have a weekly "slumber party", maybe I'll have her help me achieve this!

  • Excellent. I might get some of those duck clips -- I'm actually SLEEPING on those big wave clamps!

  • You are HARDCORE, mama! :) And you are one of the few people I've seen do this successfully w/ straight hair, when using the clamps. Most straight haired gals get funny little bumps. LOL

  • Your friend is so 1940's. I love it!!! Thanks for the tutorial :)

  • People are silly...LOL They're giving you thumbs down marks for having the era wrong. This is a 20's and 30's look. But I know what you meant...xxoo

  • loved it hun!!! thanks for the informative tutorial! xx btw question: could the middy haircut work to create this style?

  • @angelAisif ...not really...it could be a variation of this style (more like the Veronica lake look) but this style was meant for shorter hair...around chin length.

  • @angelAisif woops! I think I deleted your last question, by mistake. Yes, you see that Ruby Keeler's hair is VERY curly. It works wonderfully w/ curly hair...

  • thanks very much hun! xxx you're a very informative teach :) im saving some money now to get that book you recommended your channel has really sparked an interest in vintage for me and thank you for that. also love some of the songs you play on your videos!

  • Thank you so much! Finally!!!
