I think it's probably the opening reel for if you let it idle without starting a game. Then, when you actually start the game, you'd see this again, only with voices, sound effects, and no game credits.
Dunno for sure; haven't played a FF game since X. :P
Battle of Valhalla is one of my favorite cutscenes. Its just so, epic.
