this fear of health care reform because it may mean more government involvement in health care is ridiculous. if the government can make health care better [and it can, via single-payer, as it's often called here] then it should. the idea that government involvement is inherently bad is fatal idealism at this point. i think states are illegitimate, but we're at a point where they CAN be used for good. and should be.

At one point I was seriously considering joining the military. That would have required years of overseas deployment which could have resulted in my death. But that is considered normal. How is that different to moving to NH. Working towards more liberty as I set up a life for my wife and child?

In the 1600's and on, your area was dominated by home schoolers too, they way they had schools were like private Christian schools. Our founding fathers saw a big problem with that system so they began to implement Public school systems, by state it is in allot of New England state constitutions...

Every state has the right to implement public education based on its own public demand, but the Federal government does not. Obviously, not every state in the Union early on decided to do so. It wasn't a universal belief among the founders or the states, and the founders did not set up a Federal welfare system for public schooling, even if Jefferson believed it to be a good thing. Jefferson was not always right, and I think the abuse of public school system proves this was another of his errors.
