  • quality isnt that good. lol

  • when i uploaded on my new panasonic the quality wasnt very good, how do i sort this out

  • @Rainbowlaces12

    read description

    "wmv 720 24p 6000mbps 192kbps audio"

    or

"export to youtube" from whatever program you use like imovie or FCP (I use Avid...)

    or

    "h264 - 5000kbps - 192kbps audio - keyframe every 400 frames"

  • @StuartHaight yeah i did export it. but the quality is still bad

  • This footage looks really impressive. I dont know why everybody complains about the low light. Are you impressed with this camera? I have the chance to buy it for $1300 should I jump on it? Thanks

  • Sweet bike.

  • what are your main export/render settings?

  • ok thanks i appreciate it

  • @StuartHaight how do you do that? haha

  • @MrMx825

Your videos are uploaded correctly. You should not worry.

  • hey im a rookie and this may sound retarded but why is your video take up the whole video space and some dont? thanks man

  • @MrMx825

Because I took the time to do some tests before hand and made sure that whatever format I export out of my video editor it will display correctly on youtube's supported formats of both HD and SD resolutions.

  • @BBrtqB The camera you saw above is between a consumer and prosumer camera, it's is not a true prosumer camera nor is it even close to a pro camera.

The difference that sets prosumer cams from pro-level cams are size, lens options, recording formats, body features, as well as camera chip performance with respect to the lens.

Handycams, have nothing, but why do they look 'good'? It's because they're pre-set, if you call it that way, to look good as far as contrast, vibrance, and sharpness.

  • @BBrtqB Continuing:

Prosumer cameras are pro-level cameras on a budget. In most cases, they have a fixed lens, pro-level audio imputs, bigger than a football, and contain lots of buttens and presets on the sides of the body. Recording formats range from 'crappy' AVCHD to high quality 4:2:2 recording. In some cases, camera bodies come with HD-SDI out which allows uncompressed 4:4:4. They are an all-in-one package, offering in-camera image controls, and in most cases, they're VERY durable.

  • that was sickk

  • this is simply amazing!

  • I really can't wait to get this camera! I have fallen in love with it!

  • Video looks great. Can I have the name of the song used?

  • please! tell me how u made the slomo look soo clean! i record everything in 24 p...and if i slo mo it its sooooo chopppy!!! i want super slo mo! but i cant figure out how to make it smoooooth!!!

  • @idontfilm

    Yoooooooo, duuuuuuuuuuude, reeeeeaaaaallyyyyyy?

In order to get 'slow-mo', you need to shoot MORE frames per second, 24 fps is not enough to use. Go into the Q.Menu, format record, choose 720 60p, you will get more than 2 x the frames in this setting.

  • @idontfilm You own a 2000 dollar camera, yet you dont know how to do this simple stuff?

    My gawd.

  • @bergaminivideos Haha Don't you hate when spoiled rich kids get all this nice crap and the talented filmmakers are left with whatever they can shell out from savings?

  • What lens are you using?

  • @jeffcook14

Search ".42x fisheye" onto ebay (only place to find those lenses) and tons of options will pop up, buy from top rated sellers, it doesn't have a name for some reason but as you can see it works. About $40.

  • @StuartHaight if you really wanted to you could buy a 43mm step down ring to 37mm and buy a 37mm filter sized baby death lens (opteka is the brand name) and that wish eye is .3x its pretty nice and a decent price of $120 or lower.

  • @Ykskateboarder I totally hear ya dude but I just have no use for such a wide lens which comes with extreme barrel distortion... for mtb a non-distorting wide lens looks way better cinematically wise, I've tried with a legit fisheye it just doesn't work outside of skate videos. I'd do skate videos but I've just never been able to comfortably navigate on a board and really pay attention to what I'm filming :(

  • @StuartHaight true cause i think once i purchase this camera im getting a step down ring cause i already have the fisheye from a previous camera which broke :( which is why im gonna get this one. Yeah haha practice the balance and stuff but i see what your saying only get it if ya need it. Which you dont for mtb but for skating i think this camera and the fisheye will do awesome. I have heard to many great reviews.

  • @Ykskateboarder wurd... honestly that $40 semi-fisheye i use really has no image degregation, it's insane dude even in 1080 mode, but obviously not as fishy as a mk1

  • @StuartHaight Forsure plus mk1 is so expensive to.

  • hey man i have a easy question , when u shot this, did the screen say std? or hd. i been trayng to set up this camera in hd but i never says hd, only std, the quality is still great but not sure if im shooting hd,???????

  • how come like alll the other hmc40 footage i found on youtube looks like trash. this is the only video i have found so far that looks hd

  • @idontfilm

I'm sure it's the fact that the camera is completely stable and not moving. If it were moving the H.264 compression youtube uses would definatly create artifacts. The other video that I think has very good quality upload is in the related videos "HMC40 outdoor action of utv and side by side..." video.

  • ok cool. and another question. i shoot skateboarding. which is a lot of movement. so i want to know.. wat is the best setting to shoot skatboarding in. and what is the best setting to shoot skateboarding in slow motion???

  • @idontfilm

Honestly skate videos should rarely be shot in 24p (unless its very good), it's just too fast and I think it looks so insane to see fisheye footage shot in the 60p or 1080 60i format. But obviously for uploading you'll have to cut the frame rate to 30p or have the frame blend together to smooth it out a bit.

Skating is so run-and-gun, stick with 60p or 1080 60i (shutter at 120). Shooting bike videos like I do is much easier and more time in between each shot to change settings.

  • thanks man.ill upload somthing soon and u can give me some constructive criticism

  • @idontfilm

Also, as far as the format goes for uploading, I use wmv9 1280x720 at 6000kbps for 24p and 30p. As far as the original footage goes for the HMC40. The artifacts are very difficult to see unless you go frame by frame. It's also only noticible (and frustrating) when you go in and do sophisticated color correction or color altering, that's where the AVCHD format suffers, it's only 25mbps compared to P2 which is 100mbps.

  • Looks great.. I'm thinking with the new tm700 coming with 1080/60p, that a new HMC40 is in the works that also does 1080/60p. 720/60p looks good on youtube though.

  • Unless you are confused with the TM300 (same chip as the HMC40) then I'd like to see this TM700. Technically there is no way to record 1080 60p footage, only 60i, 30p, and 24p (w/pulldown and native). UNLESS this TM700 camera scans and captures 1080 60p, which uses the overcranking process like in the HVX where it lays the footage down in a 30p or 24p timeline (played 50% speed). Keep in mind the HVX200a and HPX has a chip that can scan 60p, but when recorded it is sampled down to 1080i60.

  • Youtube is only able to playback 23.976p, 24p, 25p, 29.970p, and 30p. Yes, my footage was shot in 1280x720 at 60p, but in post I slowed down the footage 40% to achieve a 24p framerate.

There are other sites like pinkbike that can playback 60p rendered footage, however due to that, your best bet is to shoot with pal at 50p and upload as 50p, its less strain on the monitors for some reason, not all can handle 60p smoothly.

  • The TM700 replaces the tm300. When recording in 1080/60p it records in mp4. It may be a gimmick. We'll see when the camera is released.

  • I just checked out a bunch of your videos, freakin sweet man (assuming they're urs?). Either way dude I think you should get a camera that records in a better format. There is LOTS of motion in your videos, and AVCHD (not as bad as HDV) is very poor under lots of motion. You can get away with it if you record in 720 24pN format, that way there is less data to compress in the 25mbps stream. 720 24p handles motion way better than full 1080 60i/30p with AVCHD. Just my two cents, get an HPX170.

  • Thanks, .. 24p wouldn't work for the crash slomo stuff. 720/60p seems the best now. I like the HMC150 although a bit more than I wanted to spend. The hmc40 is so new they would most likely upgrade the hmc150 to 1080/60p before the hmc40. The 1080/60p may not be suitable for pro work though so need to wait and see how it looks on the tm700. I'll check out the HPX170.

  • Ah ok I understand, yeah the HPX170 is way too much camera. I'm picky when it comes to formats because I really like to manipulate images (although it might be a little) complicated color correction. Plus with the AVCHD format I'm converting the footage to a higher quality format before editing anyways. I think ghte TM700 will be a happy medium, it's just as sharp as the HMC40 (and sharper than the 150!), and WAY smaller, but lacking features the HMC40 has that are nice. Good luck.

  • @rnickeymouse

Good sir you are right, 1080 60p does exsist, 1080 60p is the new wave, and somehow they squeezed that into a 35mbps recording format... insane.

  • Yea did you just change the frame rate to get the slow motion effect? and you are crazy to slide over a expensive camera like that. If you would of ran it over that would of set you back some cash.

  • Full details are in description, but in short it was shot in 720 60p (60 frames per second), then in post I slowed the speed by 40%, when you do the math, final rate is 24p, which is the frame rate of motion pictures.

Yeah, don't worry I did a LOT of practicing on a big rock before attempting that, looks pretty legit and I really wanted to try it.

  • what kind of fisheye... and what size is the thread and stuff

  • @Braulio258

I'm using a $40 fisheye, no joke, I got the 52mm/58mm version. so I used a 43mm to 52mm stepup ring for my camera.

Search ".42x fisheye" onto ebay (only place to find those lenses) and tons of options will pop up, buy from top rated sellers, it doesn't have a name for some reason but as you can see it works.

  • @StuartHaight im just asking because i have a good fisheye and i plan on buying this cam in the future and i want to know if i can still use my same one or if im going to have to buy a new one

  • No problem. HA nice doin' tech deck vids. To test to see how 'good' your fish is, take a pic with it with a real picture camera, then look at the edges of the photo for the detail. I can't imagine you having any issues, you've used the fisheye for skate videos (not just photography) then you know you'll have a bit of vignetting with the .3x fishes and you'll want to disable the OIS. This stock lens in 35mm eqvnt is about a 45mm (not wide), the thread is 43mm, and stepup rings are cheap.

  • @StuartHaight

    yeah..thanks man

  • Really nice videos!

  • I am sure you can correct any color issues either in camera or in post. The footage is nice crisp and clean and the slow motion is buttery. Nice job.

  • Very true, very true. I definatly wanted a different look other than the 'film look' and super robust colors. Because of my preferences I never over do anything when it comes to color correction (super insane blacks, insane contrast, insane saturations etc.) I try to stay suddle, thus, that's why I think it was too warm. Thanks for the comment.

  • How'd you get the slo mo? What was you frame rate?

  • Comment removed

  • cOOL CAMERA and video with music

  • Witness Dub by Roots Manuva

  • I actually just bought this cam too, been a sony guy for a while. How did you get the warm look? I am still learning the settings on this cam and I can't seem to get what I like out of it yet.

Let me know if you could,

    cv

  • @brighteyefilms

The camera settings are in the video description. The thing is so far I haven't been able to really do tests with actual people. This setting might not work for anything else because the skin tones are super warm (warmer than I expected, I was shooting myself so I had no refrence) and wierd looking.

I'll answer any quetions you have.

I've done some modifictions to this 'warm' setting since and am working on new settings for my 'cool' looking images.

  • @brighteyefilms

I'll also see if I can find a 'dictionary' for what each setting means. I know what you mean because about a 1/3 of the setting appear to have very little difference, but I hooked the cam up to a plasma at the same time while adjusting the settings and did see some minor differences when adjusting. So they DO something...

  • ok yeah, the manual is not the greatest for each setting. Plus some of the settings have the menu totally filling the LCD and you cannot see the changes. sometimes I like to run and gun and have to set to auto iris, and when I do that, my image comes out too dark. It is like the internal auto setting just has the iris too high. My FX1 and HC1 Sony cams never really had that problem. Your thoughts?

  • @brighteyefilms

Hmmm. I actually owned the HC1 before this cam how ironic, I used the hell out of it it's a tank. I always thought my HC1 over exposed 1-2 clicks, which it did on auto. My HMC seems ok, I guess make sure you have your cam's LCD brightness match the image recorded and that it looks good on the computer/TV. I always run manual iris just because, that and proper white balence is my first priority when recording. Random tip: If you want perfect blacks, set master ped to -2.

  • AAAAAAHHHH i wanna get out to wakefield so badly :(

i havent been in so long

and that lens looks pretty nice, if a little reddish :/

  • Is that an fce9 fisheye? If it is i know people who would KILL for this footy

  • Oh god dude the FC-E9 it like $500 bucks, but it looks super siiick. I'm literally using a $40 fisheye, no joke, it's 52mm (also a 58mm), so I used a 43mm to 52mm stepup ring.

Search ".42x fisheye" onto ebay (only place to find those lenses) and tons of options will pop up, buy from top rated sellers, it doesn't have a name for some reason but as you can see it works.
