Also he illuminated some propertes of the photoelectric effect. Dr. Chomsky is a linguist by training, and his best known contributions are to political science. Srictly speaking, there is no commensurability whatsoever between the two, and both would likely reject, if not resent the comparison.

Without checks and balances such as the rule of law, a president might just go around shooting people he doesn't like - and that would be a dictatorship, wouldn't it?

@sutircomed A nation state can only be at war with another nation state. Al Qaeda are not the government of a country. International law is expressly to combat atrocities such as that on Sept 11th 2001. Your leader has no more right to assassinate his 'enemies' without due process as Gaddafi had the right to execute his enemies on American or UK soil. Be aware the rest of the world hates the US; the US gov't has isolated itself because successive administrations place themselves above the law.

@sutircomed The law is to there deal with criminals, and Al Qaeda are criminals. You are trapped in the idea that international law applies to other people, and not the USA. Wrong. Your attitude to law and criminality is unacceptable. Your country is not the boss - in fact China will overtake your country within 5 years, and then Beijing will be shooting its enemies in New York City without process of law. Is that acceptable, because that is what your logic will bring?
