Think he rode that pretty well, horse looked quite strong :) also I do not believe he is "sawing", all I can see him doing is checking his outside rein to keep the horse short and bouncy.
Its not the speed that gets you over the fence. When the horse is collected and useing the hind-end, it makes for a better a jump, EXSPECIALLY for the large fences. :]
@Misami2 Speed has little to do with it.... It's implusion, if jumping relied on speed then like said before, poles would be down as the horse not be collected enough. A horse has to be sat on its hocks and moving from behind and through its body, hence how it gets such a strong take off as it relies on its hindquarters for power. If a horse is being powered from the front then its back end is weak and will not have such a strong take off.... I hope that makes sense
@Bkaylover Unfortunately a ton of horses in the Eventing and Hunter Jumper world get ridden front to back and not back to front. >.< I went to see the Dressage part of the Eventing and as a Dressage rider I thought I was going to scream at someone. Sawing a horses nose to the verticle isn't collection at all.
Prehaps he was slow but that was beta to be going slow because it means the horse is gathered and collected for jump so he would have a much more springy effect.

Yeah, being more collected means that the horse is taking more weight behind to make the forehand lighter to get a better jump.
