  • Wow. He can get that high and clear with 2-1/2 strength reeds? Wow. My embouchure hurts just thinking about that. I only wish I heard him in person before he retired. Thanks for posting!

  • 5 people are deaf and just don't know.

  • I MET HIM . WHEN I WAS A LIL GIRL . ON MARDI GRAS DAY I KISSED HIM ON HIS BALD HEAD !

  • it must get hot in there!

  • nice, drummer! Pete, your amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Oh, my gosh!! Wonderful!!

  • I read not long ago that Pete Fountain was voted the FINEST clarinet player of the 20th Century, and that included players like Benny Goodman. I can't imagine being so good at anything, but Pete sure was. He did things with the "licorice stick" that nobody else could do.

  • Pete Fountain you are the man! What great talent ! Tell your wife we said Thanks!!!!

  • Totally incompetent musicians.

  • I know who he is...

He was on 'The Lawrence Welk Show'! He was one of my favorite members of the orchestra.

    I'm 16 and I love 'TLWS' :)

  • Pete Fountains place at the Hilton in Naw Orleans......!!!!

  • mky god pete at metry bar those chilean miners

    watch?v=f5aK4Zgs53I

  • who is the drum player he looks so unimused and half asleep

    amazing clarinet player

  • I play oboe but I really like The sound of a clarinet

  • This is amazing I LOVE IT!

  • Nice!

  • I remember cutting my teeth on clarinet with Pete Fountain records back in 1960. Boy was I hooked. I have kept up with it ever since. The first one I could play was GOTTA TRAVEL ON, and I was only 12 years old. Pete has a talent like no one else and this performance shows it.

  • If I'm not mistaken 59 thousanths of an inch is 1..50 mm....very small. and is written .059.

  • He is awesome! I wish i could play like that [=

  • This of course is the standard for New Orleans, but I never get tired of hearing Pete tear it up! WOW!

  • Nice glissando at 5:15.

  • hey tsoe2001, he's still kick'n and playing at 79

  • Much respect to Pete - He is an original member of the WHO DAT nation. He would be so proud of the SAINTS!

  • weird drumming style, great clarinet player

  • Major influences from Artie Shaw seen here, great playing :)

  • my gosh, if Pete Fountain were a drug, he'd be illegal, he's that incredible. Thanks for sharing your gift, Pete.

  • i cant watch this video

    this video was good ln

  • Charlie Lodice - "The dorky drummer" Is my grandpa.... Thanks for that one!

  • @PFaircloth04 I think he's doin exactly what he's supposed to be. It's N'Orlens jazz. My Uncle played with Pete (Trumpet) back in the late 60's early 70's. Maybe you've heard of Mike Serpas? I think that was back in the day of Oliver "Stick" Felice on bass I believe it was.

  • Do you play clarinet?......... I do and I really like it......... Pete Fountain is really good!! : )

  • Hi and yes I do play clarinet. I sat in with Pete's band in 1994. I uploaded a couple of videos of the event. They are at my YouTube location.

    Jim

  • what is his reed/mouthpiece/ligature/horn setup?

  • He plays a big bore LeBlanc model L1612 w/gold keys. Has the articulated G# and forked Bb. The bore is .59 thousands I think. Mouthpiece is an old O'Brien 4* and he was using Marca 2 1/2 reeds. The ligature is a standard ligature from LeBlanc.

    Jim

  • @JimV33 I really like my Marca, but it's hard to find them, do you know any sources? Thanks in advance.

  • ClarinetFest in NO - Pete in the Orpheus Theater, 2,000 clarinet players in the audience.

    Pandimonium. Love this guy!

    kjf

  • I was there that night sitting in about the third row center. I talked to Pete afterwards and was not feeling good that night, had the flu or something. He sure played great as usual. Remember on Wolverine Blues when he did a gliss DOWN from high C to A? He can make that horn do anything he wants!

    Jim

  • amazing ,kick ass

  • Jaja!

    Great clarinet-drum solo

  • check out kevin Van Ess and the talk of the town

  • Im wiping away tears as I listen to Pete. There's only one N'awlins

I shut my eyes and still see Pete leading the "Half Fast Walking Club"down the parade route...

    We love ya Pete!

  • superbravo

  • Spare me the dorky drum solo. Doesn't that guy know he has more than one drum in front of him? Pete is amazing of course. Love those high notes. How come he NEVER squeaks?

  • Thats a matter of oppinion of course..... simple things can be the best. its like repeated notes on a wind instruments solo. it can appeal to some people but turn away others.

  • it was meant to be funny, dumbass.

  • clarygirrrl9 "Spare me the dorky drum solo. Doesn't that guy know he has more than one drum in front of him?"

Nothing "dorky" about it, it evokes the sound of a drummer marching down the street with a snare drum. Sounds cool as heck.

  • Pete Rocks!!!

  • Sin palabras de verdad, sin palabras. Impresionante

  • i play the trumpet and never really gave a crap about the clarinet...until i saw pete playing it...it's just soo wonderful and warm!

  • I have 5 of Pete's albums and 3 TJ Brass on my iPod and listen to them at the guy when doing aerobics. Can you believe it wears me out...in a good way! :-D My greatest wish is that I could play a clarinet half as well as Pete does but I have to be content to be able to hear him. ;-)

  • what a beautiful sounding instrument. expertly played

  • JESUS, son! You listen to a song like that and you scrutinize his mouthpiece?! I pity you.

  • Yeah that mouth piece is certainly holding him back in this pitiful display...

Boy does he need to invest in a NEW MOUTHPIECE

  • i notice he uses a crystal mouth piece.

i have only heard bad things about those..

why is that he uses it?

  • Pete Fountain plays a 4* O'Brien glass mouthpiece made by the O'Brien company back in the 1950s. I don't know who is telling you they are bad but many of the best Pricipal Clarinetists in symphonies use them. They will help give you a warmer sound if you find the right one.

    Jim

  • i play clarinet and hopefully i will be that good one day!

  • omg!! he is so exilerating!!

  • makes me smile

  • my grandpa grew up best friends with pete, so he comes to see us every now and then

  • I agree, he has that bigger than life thing that brings the Big EZ to New Orleans ahh...the Big EZ, I have to be one of the few that can thank Katrina for bringing me to New Orleans.

  • Still sounds fantastic!
