  • @nan631 Hi Nan

  • You are wonderful, amazing!!!! thats absolutely fantastic! Brilliant job!

  • Young man you need to make a instructional video on this. I hope you hear the sound you make like I do because it is great. There are alot of players out there but only a few can touch the soul. Thanks

  • Shot bro, well done. Do you know the 1st water harmonic bit?

  • Thank you SO much! you are a great teacher! THANK YOU! please keep doing videos!!!

  • This is one of my favorite songs ever and you play it beautifully I just bought my grandson a guitar for his birthday and I sent him this video I know it will help him learn to play it. Thanks for sharing Love, Chars Nan

  • kudos bro really awesome playing. clean and your technique is flawless. thanks for al the videos I appreciate seeing another player posting good quality videos.

  • Amazing Man, you make it look very simple.

  • Cool man...

  • pretty good man

  • Hey I was wondering if you can do a three piece video version of this song?

I tried using the tabs but it doesn't match.

I was hoping you can explain it in detail...

I am sure a lot of people would be SUPER DUPER APPRECIATIVE!!!

Some of the notes I can't figure it out.

    THANK YOU !!!!

  • OMG! You are amazing! Your guitar is so beautiful...

I love this song and i wanted to play it.. But i see it is somewhat difficult, i have a couple of months playing the guitar... and well, you are great!

  • Good job dude, but this isn't really much of a lesson, I think you go way to fast and don't explain enough. I realize its a lot to ask but you think you could break it into 3 videos. I need to learn it to help my dad with a movie hes making. I'm kind of a new guitarist, I've only been playing for 7 months.

  • First of all, I want to say YOU ROCK BRO~!!! Thanks for doing this. You inspire me to play higher...

Second, what tabs are you using for this? because the tabs I got from the website are different...

it doesn't seem to match with this playing. =(

    help a bro out...

  • @plummetdown i dont think i used tabs, i just watched different versions of tommy's videos. its been a while, i think i learned it 5 years ago

  • Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent, could you please give me an idea of how much practice time it required to reach this level , thanks Greg

  • @selectronix when i learned this song i have been playing guitar for about 3 years? and i practiced a couple hours a day

  • hey man .

    nice guitar .

how much did you buy it . ?

  • @xXjeremy54Xx 1600 us dollars

  • quite amazing version of this song!

  • hey man, what kind of mic are you using ? It really brings out the good quality of sound your guitar has. p.s. i hate nothing more than a bad guitar lesson, and this is great :D thanks for sharing this with us :)

  • @packman5395 YES ANWSER this mans QuestioN! lol i want to know too.

  • @packman5395 hey thanks! here im using a mxlv63m microphone.

  • hey man, what kind of mic are you using ? It really helps bring out the good quality of sound your guitar has. p.s. i hate nothing more than a bad guitar lesson, and this is great :D thanks for sharing this with us :)

  • Great take on a brilliant song. Thanks for sharing!

  • Excellent Job on this, love your harmonic approach, i was looking for a version by Rick Derringer, but very satisfied in finding yours. good job

  • @JimmiSTRATMAN hey thanks a lot, i appreciate it

  • Wow...just WOW. That was beautiful!!

  • what model taylor is that??

  • @dantheguitarman88 its a 414ce

  • @ScottTsai Im surprised it sounds better than any 414ce I've played. Is it an older model back from when they still used the fishman pickup system? Also, what type of mic are you using? and are you going direct line in for the guitar?

  • @dantheguitarman88 its a 2003 model, it orginally had the fishman in it but i put in a k&k pure western mini pickup myself. I think in this video i used the pickup combined with the microphone. the mic is a mxl63m

  • @ScottTsai are you in standard tuning? because the chord at 0:20 doesnt seem to match up. maybe its just because the video is a little out of sync? or is your thumb on the F# just in preparation? thanks! it sounds amazing BTW! you have great touch and technique.

  • @ScottTsai okay, so this is in standard tuning right?? also, at :20 seconds is that chord a d dominant 9? with the 5th (a) in the bass?

  • @ScottTsai @ScottTsai okay, so this is in standard tuning right?? also, at :20 seconds is that chord a d dominant 9? with the 5th (a) in the bass?

BTW you sound excellent. are you in school for music? and how long have you been playing?

  • @dantheguitarman88 hey dan, yes this is in standard tuning. the chord at 20sec is 2x02x2.

im not in music school and ive been playing for about 7 years now. thanks for watching!

  • @ScottTsai how long did it take you to learn this? and did you learn by ear?

  • @dantheguitarman88 i forgot how long it took to learn but i learned it over 5 years ago. i learned it by watching tommys videos

  • The harmonics will sound really dull without a thumb pick unless your Lenny Breau.

    Great lesson man, sounds great.

  • Can you tab it out for me please? i do much better with tabs song with so much finger picking.

  • got some big ass fingers bet ur gf is happy

  • i've never seen somebody playing harmonics with one hand! amazing! thanks for your posting.

my guitar broke when we were moving house =(

    anyways thanks a lot!

  • excellent job, dude, btw, 'bruddah iz' was a big hawaiian cat who did a monster version this combined with wonderful world on uke. really more about his ethereal voice than the string part. he's passed away now.

  • Will download this lesson tonight to my computer, and hopefully I will get the time to learn it soon. Wish I was your age again.

    Thank you for the lesson.

Did you get the maple taylor guitar from that generous soul. You deserve it.

  • @Stomo1709 you're very welcome, and no i did not get the guitar but its a nice thought! its a very expensive guitar and it'd be hard to part with it.

  • hey I thought this was really good... maybe you coul try to show us the "IZ" version?

  • @Mia1Loves1You what do u mean?

  • Just superb, absolutely magnificent.... wow! If only I could ever reach this standard of playing I would be well happy! A 70 year old playing only 2 years, lets hope I make a century, I may just catch you up if I keep up the practice.Youtube is a lifeline to so many of us. Well done young man.

  • @bewchi Thank you so much! glad you like the video!

  • @bewchi never too late to start! all the best to you dear! :)

  • Im pissed off..

You only explain the harmonic parts.

The verse and the rest of the song you just play and how the fuck can we learn the song by that? You can't call this a lesson.

  • @DanskeSange shouldn't get so pissed about something like that

  • @DanskeSange

If you can't figure it out by watching his hands, there is no way you are good enough to learn this song anyway...

And there are a lot of tabs on the web, so why should he bother? google is your friend.

The purpose of the lesson is giving a nice and slow example of the song so you know what to sound like.

  • thank you!

  • Thats intense. I will never be able to play like that.

  • what chord are you playing at 0:21 i cant quite make it out

  • @Jayhawk053 xx1212 hope thats the chord you are talking about

  • :0... this is amazing bro.. just when i thought i was getting good. keep playing this is inspirational

  • @cdawg9040 Thanks! glad you like it

  • this is a really nice song. :)

  • Ok so can you teach ?!?!

  • You play Guitar beautifully!

  • i love youre voice it`s so pure haha!!!!

  • great job Scott, I pulled a tab from the net that was similar but not as good as your version, do you have a tab, or can you recommend a tab for Tommy Emmanuel's version like the one you are playing, nice job! Hey, great that you meth Tommy in Elizabethtown, KY, I have a lot of family in that town, great little town!

  • How long have you been playing? this is inspirational!

  • yeah, you're no help.

  • Where do you get your thumbpick? And could I ask you a few questions?

  • Absolutely Beautiful! Great job.

  • Thank you :) I love how you play it all the way through at the begining, the only thing that is an issue for me is it is hard to strum and sing simultainiously

  • lovely, that is some hours work on show :o)

  • This is great! One thing though - the audio and the video are not well synchronized, and that makes some parts hard to learn. You think you can fix it somehow?

    Excellent video!!!

  • I love your style- where did you study?

  • Scott. These are terrific lessons and your style is hard to find. Just a thought but if possible it would be great to see a lesson on the titanic theme or something like scarborough fair. This sort of style would really bring those tunes to life. Thanks again.

  • im ganna be seeing alot of you for the next few feews until i learn this lol

  • beautiful but what is the tuning?

  • @fishingtrojan it's just standard tuning. thanks for watching i appreciate it!

  • @ScottTsai Beautiful, but this isn't standard tuning.

  • @Rayrockny Trust me it's in standard tuning EADGBE

  • @ScottTsai Yes your right I went home and played it ;) thanks.

  • what chords areused ?

i see two tabs in link posted but i think that's not equal

    GREAT JOB!!!!

    Congratulations!

  • well kid , your cool starting today ur my new over the rainbow teacher,

u are good and I like the calm way of playing the guitar, it gives

a lot of inner rest (peace)

  • Very well tutored,well done!

  • friend could spend the tablature of this song, I try to get the video but it is difficult for me if I'll spend the tab would be easier. greetings from mexico

    dado_simpatico@hotmail

  • @dadito2008

If you have the tab for this song, please be kind enough to send me a copy at recovery@awre.org

    Thank you

  • you are a brilliant and very talented guitarist! well done!!!!!!

  • Thanks for decoding the mysterious harmonics and pull-offs. You very talented. You make it look so easy.

  • thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm playing this song in a wedding this Friday and all I can say is thank you.

  • @mtwseneca funny im playing this for a funeral on friday

  • beautiful:D you're good, keep up the good work man:D

  • Nice

  • i love you man! :D you give the best guitar lessons ever!!

  • great tutoring Scott, been looking for something similar a long time. Thanks.

  • can you sing along with this guitar playing ?

  • I prefer tutorials like this. Its great for the intermediate to advanced player that doesn't want to hear a lot of talking and just focus on the playing. The chords in chart form flashed on screen would be a very nice addition though. BTW do you have a video where you just play this song. I would love to hear the it!

  • .. nice.. why dont u try singin'..

by da way,, i think ur cute..

  • Accurate to Emmanuel's arrangement - Great technique and god blessed you with fantastic patience...It will take me months to play this version... I do envy you, so young and talented.

  • A lesson?

Up in the ass with this..

  • BRAVO!!!!!

  • you have to have really strong fingers to make some of the chord forms in this song. the one saving grace is that because its such a slow melody you have some time to get the chords clean between changes.

  • this is actually how a proper tutorial should be. some tips and slowed down to see the chords. all the rest should be worked out by ear. too many people use tabs and it kills proper musical skill

  • well, if you have proper musical skill, remembr not every one dose

  • great video, but not much of a tutorial

  • @ashleynicole4444 agreed. It's, like, impossible to do this! But really gorgeous

  • great vid

  • Daddy long legs fingers help... I think my pointer finger is about the same as your pinky.

  • Excellent job !!

    10 points for sure there!!

  • hey you prob get it a lot,but i need to know where to find the tab

  • woaw good job man !

  • you've a great touch.wish I had half your talent.

  • May I know how you record the guitar sound? Just recorded by the condenser mic?

  • he descargado el pdf y las tablaturas no tiene nada que ver con el video

  • Before youtube most guitar players had to use their ears to figure out the chords and picking patterns......if people would just "get to work" then Scott wouldn't need to lead them by the hand...what he's showing you here is a wealth of info....what a musical future this dude has in store for him if he decided to pursue it professionally.

  • Incredible chord transitions! You're right about him having a future if he wants...he'll probably just opt out and become a brain surgeon or something tho, lol.

  • cual de los dos versiones es

  • i believe you could teach this a little bit better, just showing is quite hard to do...

  • Yea, well you could buy the tabs and get to work, as Tommy would say. It a hard song to play Duha??

  • great demonstration!

  • Bravo- indeed it is

  • hey mate whats your guitar brand?

    cheers =]

  • i think it might be an Alvarez..im guessing because mine has that little patch on the inside as well

  • It's a Taylor 414-series

  • Comment removed

  • Seriously?? U bashing this guys tuning is comical for as good as he plays. He could tune it in drop B and still sound amazing

  • By The Way. Good Lesson. :)

  • A Quick Question For Anyone Who Fancies Answering. Is It Possible To Play All Tommy Emmanuel Songs Without A Thumb Pick? Im Getting Quite Good At Fingerstyle Now But Havnt Atempted To Learn Any Of The 'Boom Chick' Songs. :)

    Thanx.

  • yes

  • You could use your fingers without but you woudn't get the same string attack. Btw, you don't have to capitalise every word. Only the first of each sentence and certain proper nouns.

  • Yeah, I Just Find It Difficult To Palm Mute And Still Get A Nice Tone With The Fingers, Thats All. I Don't Fancy Using A Thumb Pick, Though. I Don't Know Why. O' And By The Way I Know!

  • are you playing a guild? the inside of the body has the same two pieces of wood thingy as my guild (dunno what theyre called :p)

  • thats a peaceful voice :)

  • thanks men it help a lot go chek my version please you tell me what you think about

  • yeah its nice but the not the original one...i dont like it getting be bored how everyone make the own type...

  • u r totally wrong, getting bored is to play the same w original. dudh

  • Absolutely blow away with this mate, it is beautiful. Many thanks for providing a smile......

  • Where does it start on the tabs??

  • The tabs r different from what your doing.

  • helluva mic! great sound and playing

  • nicely played dude

  • Scott Thanks for the instruction. You're gr8. Wish you would show us the rest of the move in the whole song.

  • are version 1 and 2 the same?

  • scott could you maybe make a second video simply explaining the chord shapes in it? that would be really helpful because i cant really track right now... tommy uses obscure chords in my opinion and it would be great if you could just show some of the finger placement of the chords...

  • Well, go to the website in the description, pick version 2.

    Version two has fingering charts.

  • oh you just made my day :) haha

  • Wow! Just starting out with guitar but I saw this video and said "this boy got skillz! This melody is so pretty and you play it very well. One suggestion, After teaching can u just play how it should sound with no interruptions. Keep up the good work.

  • is not a good tutorial in my opinion..the most difficult thing in this song is the introduction...and u didn't do it! it' difficult to learn i spent a lot of time in order to learn it but that's all in the tommy' version! for the other part, good sound and good interpretation but they aren't very difficult to learn by yourself....

  • I'm glad someone took the time to give us a tutorial on one of my favorite guitar players. But surely your tutorials will be more complete. Guitarfiabe, please provide a supplement for this tutorial by posting the introduction. Thank you!

  • Hey Scott, Thanks so much for this tutorial. I got up this morning and worked out the main theme for this, and then found your video. This helps so much. You've definitely done the work for us all! Last week I got another Maton, EA80C, wow! Tommy will be here again October 3rd. We'd love to have you. Jim

  • When I went to the link, I didn't find the song. They're in alphabetical order, but I couldn't find this song. Another thing, it's in a different language, so I was kind of confused. x)

  • its listed under - over the rainbow.

  • you have a very nice touch on the right hand, very clean sound with both thumbpick and flesh, also good rhythm control! awesome =)

  • Awesome!! Can you post the chords or do a video showing the chords?

  • very good!

  • how do you do the harmonics bit at the beginning?

  • Nice lesson ,great Tommy arrangement .I am getting lost on some of the chord changes because of poor vision ,hope to get it down ,also you play with a thumbpick so effortlessly , hard to do the harmonic notes, that style ,with out alot of practice. Taylor guitar sounds " harp like "on the harmonic parts 2. Nice playing ..Scott Thanks

  • do you have a pattern in your picking or is it just improvising?

  • thank you, man! that's great work!

    thank you so much!

  • Absolutely beautiful, ive been playing for 35 years and now im gonna give this a go, new style for me, but wow what an inspiration. A big thankyou for doing this for everyone, its very much apreciated. ThanQ

  • thanks! im glad you like it. but yea i know what you mean its a completey different style than what most people are used to hearing on the radio. its a lot more fun too.

  • It sounds pretty sweet. Nice playing.

  • This is an excellent video. I enjoy your music.

    LB

  • thanks! i appreciate it

  • beautiful mate. really good!

  • its sooo cute !!

  • Hey! that's beatiful pice, btw what guitar is that?

  • thank you its a taylor 414ce

  • This is really relaxing :) i like it

  • were u there at his concert last year in singapore? just wondering.

  • nope i live in america
