It depends on the use of the word in the context it's in. Calling someone a "stupid Paki" is offensive because of the context it's used in. I don't find the word offensive if it's shortening the name, but using it as an insult isn't good. If someone called me a "cunt Brit" that would annoy me but in general, being refered to as a Brit doesn't bother me.
