  • great job very good teacher you are

  • Merci beaucoup mon ami. Thank you for doing this particular transcription. I appreciate the work and the time you invested in this posting.

  • Thanks a lot friend! I gotta play this tomorrow in front of like 50 ppl and I'd probably be screwed w/o this.

  • Perfect !!! Thank from Belgium !!!

  • what voicing for the Am is that? In the first part, i cant tell. just the A and G ?

  • Nicely done! You have a nice touch and oodles of talent. Thanks for sharing it.

  • i dont have enough time to practice. fuck! i need to stay in my room all weekend and learn this.

  • hi nice work thanks ! I am currently learning to play jazz/ blues as an intermediate, and i love this tune.

I have a beat up classical guitar and will someday buy a semi acoustic. I like the sound of your guitar ..or is it your playing! what type of guitar is it so i can start saving!

on a practical note it would be easier to follow your chord fingering if the lighting was a bit less atmospheric..! i.e. like a jazz club!l best wishes django R aka john

  • THANK YOU

  • What ist the first chord? I don't unterstand it.

  • @7thGoldhand It's just a 2, 5, 1, 4 progression in G major, so its Am, D, Gmaj, and Cmaj, then following the circle of fourths, you have a 2, 5 1 progression in the relitive E minor, so its F#m b5, B, Em, then Em again

  • @00TheGuitarMan00 Thanks!

  • @7thGoldhand saf

  • @7thGoldhand saf

  • @7thGoldhand check out the lesson :basic jazz chords on justinguitar . com and youll understand

  • thank you

  • thanks for your wonderful contribution. :p

  • great tone man, more lessons ! peace and love, cock sucker mother fucker

  • those inlays are gorgeous

  • yeah, at 3:40 don't you mean C#11? Gmaj7/C would be valid as well, right? anyone?

  • @rubenpalma22 Probably the most correct reading of those notes would be Cmaj7#11 (probably just an oversight - I'm sure this guy knows his chords...) Gmaj7/C gives you the right notes, but it's functioning as a C chord so that's what you'd call it.

  • That chord you called a Cmaj11...

I am pretty sure the functions as a

D13 with the 7th in the bass

    Just sayin'

  • @dpkingbluesguitar definitely doesn't function as a D chord. It is a Cmaj#11, but I'd say that's a pretty small oversight.

  • great lesson!!! Thank you!!!! It realy helped!!!!

  • im not really in to playing jazz yet,but when i am (probably within a few months) im going to come back and watch this.

  • love this! thanks

  • Thank-you, come again!

  • love the tune!

  • LEGEND. beautifully taught and played

  • Those framed fretboard inserts...I'm thinking Hofner....

so what are you doing for dinner?

  • Those framed fretboard inserts...I'm thinking Hofner....

  • Anyone who says this has too much talking is obviously not interested in theory. If you're not interested in theory you should go learn a different genre. I wish more youtube guitar instructors would analyze the theory behind what they teach. I love it!

  • Great!!!!

  • Great lesson! this was very straightforward. Personally, I don' think you're talking to much at all. you knowledge of music theory is deep and helpful. keep playing!

  • why are your e strings and d string shiny?

  • great lesson, your a brilliant player...nothing beats learning a joe pass song such as autumn leaves in the blazzing sunshine :)

  • Great lesson! By the way, that's Cmaj7(#11), not Cmaj11.

  • I'm looking for lessons on BTO Blue Collar solos

  • beautiful work brother

  • Hey, you're not Joe Pass!

  • πολύ καλό!Ευχαριστώ!

  • you are awesome! thank you very much

  • ya, i hate it when there is toooooo much talking and not enough teaching

  • Not sure if I've said thanks before, so here's another one: thanks :)

This is probably my favourite standard, will try to write this all down and get it down.

All the theoretical comments are greatly appreciated as well, much better than other generic guitar lessons on youtube.

  • What the fuck you playing there? 1:22 ???

what is the tap for it or what is the name of the note xD or anything xD

  • @Flo3256 Am7, 5x5555

  • did you flay it with your fingers or plektrum?

  • This is a great lesson! Thanks a lot, I'm watching the others parts right away

  • god bless you for doing making this!!!lol

  • wow jazz has such queer chords. Im a flamenco man myself but im trying to expand my, i guess you can say, musical arsenal. :)

  • OMG... shut up allready

  • This lesson is very good. I have BA in music and all the theory is correct. Thank you for taking the time to put this together. Keep up the good work!

  • This is what i call real Music and this is a REAL MUSICIAN. im 26 but i can still appreciate good old classic music. Kids these days need to appreciate this stuff not the crappy lil wanye and lady gaga crap.

  • @slickcross im 14 and greatly appreciate this music! lady gaga is CRAP!!! :) i play electric guitar and it is because of playing guitar that i learned to appreciate this type of music!!!

  • I have been playing folk acoustic and electric rock my whole life. I just picked up a jazz box (archtop). You have opened up an entirely new world for me. It is difficult but I am determined to learn. I love Joe Pass but never dared to even try anything that he recorded. I love his solo album.

    Thanks,

    JP

  • Very good Lesson. I learned .. MEXICO

  • Im having bad time learning this, can someone please let me know if there are tabs or at least in what tune this is it ? cuz i got E standard i dont get all the sounds he does :/

  • 5th fret 5th string is C not E, but good lesson~

  • @DiatonicSoul No it isn't in standard tuning.

  • @kheczko it IS in standard tuning, where has there ever been prepared tuning for Jazz? It is very simple, play that note he calls C, and it is an E which is on a standard tuning of a B string. Don't try to argue with someone that has many years of experience in theory.

  • @DiatonicSoul

Well in my opinion everyone tunes his guitar as he/she likes.

Now I really don't know what are You talking about. First you say that 5th fret 5th string(B) is C not E. Now You say the opposite which is exactly what the guy have sad(btw I didn't found any moment with C note) . And a little advice if I may. Having your nose over your forehead isn't gonna do you any good.

  • @kheczko Well if you knew anything about chords or theory or even had one drop of common sense, you would know the chords he is playing is played in standard tuning, not a different tuning.

  • @DiatonicSoul I do know what is he talking about and I don't have any problem with it. You're getting off the subject, that is what i don't understand

  • wow thank you!

  • excellent lesson. I learned much and your talking was very helpful. I appreciate that you took the time to help us fellow guitarists.

  • whats the first chord of all?

  • @slashguitarteacher Am7 without the 5th

  • whats your guitar?

  • filaraki mporeis na mu stileis mipws tin melwdia tu komatiou?

  • Great work thanks for taking the time! I'm not a music theory buff and it's alot more satisfying knowing what's going on instead of just playing completely by ear. And a lot easier to remember, keep forgetting songs I learn because just see my hand placements as random xD.

  • please make a tab of the song, it would be easier for me to learn it that way; i'm sure there are others out there like me as well. good vid, prefer tab.

  • Dude cut the excessive talking please. Just play it at the normal speed, and then slow it down. Thank you.

  • Awesome lesson!

  • get to the point. good lesson though

  • ma sei italiano?

  • go ARTCORE! hehe same git-box as i have

  • Like this lesson! understandable...

  • Good. Tanks for this lesson.

  • awesome lesson, thanks a lot

  • wow. u play this amazling...spot on

  • I recognise that vioce. Good lesson mate. Hope you are well. Lee

  • tab?

  • Wicked lesson! Thank you!

  • great video and lesson, but i don't think that the chord that comes after Gmaj7 is Cmaj11, because it doesn't have F (the 11th note) in it.

  • Thank you Izapped! You've got a good ear. I^ve listened the original Joe Pass, and I can definately say that the notes are pretty same!

Are you playing with an Ibanez archtop?

  • Comment removed

  • At 4:16 , I believe you mean F#-7b5,,not F,right?

    Great stuff ,,

  • WOW! You are actually teaching me to play this! I can do it! More, please, please! I never thought I could play JP's stuff, because it is too hard for me to analyse, but with your help I am playing my dream guitar style.

  • Repeat after me, D7b9

  • Very fine! That's a beautiful-looking guitar; what make/model is it? I have always admired Joe Pass' clean, friendly, melodic playing. When did you get bitten by the jazz bug?

  • thanks a lot for the lesson. i just started playing jazz guitar and i was wondering if anybody could recommend any other songs like this.

  • Ah you Moroccan or Tunisian or something? You sound like the Samir guy who used to be on Coronation Street or Uri Gellar. I like your voice!!

  • These lessons by Izapped are some of the best on youtube for guitar. I hate tablature and this is guy is the perfect teacher by telling you exactly what to play. Most guitar lessons they play something quick and really dont explain what they are playing and just expect you to recognize the chords. I learned some new chords and progressions today from watching lesson 2 of this series, the diminished chords.. Please post more detailed lessons like this for other jazz songs. Misty or something?

  • thanks so much

  • Hi Chameleon,

I want to thank you for your lesson.

I'm into jazz for a little while. This kind of super lessons make my try worth it.

    Thanks very much!!

    Best regards from Holland, Theo

  • great lesson !!!!thanks

  • my favourite thing to play now, thanks a lot

  • thanks alot~

  • Nice transcription!

a friend of mine transcribed one of Joe's rubato solo versions of 'Django' and it had time signature changes every other bar, extremely tedious notation.

  • These are great lessons thanks for making them. Also the web site is very informative. Thanks!

  • But really, thanks for the lesson. Appreciate it.

  • Great Speech!!!

  • too much talking

  • @jawene3 bullsh*t! the talking is the best part to understand the theory. otherwise you learn nothing from it!

  • @jawene3 what's ur rush hillbilly ..? wheres ur video ?

  • Thank you for these lessons.Really a hands on approach for me.The breakdown of each change is just what I need.

  • Blablabla, start playing.

  • wow yeahh man¡¡¡ great really great, thanks from México city

  • Great Work Man...!!!

  • What about the right hand. Sometimes I find myself using only one finger playing the melody and other times all three. Should I force myself to use one finger per string? Is there a correct way?

  • F sharp minor flat five , not f minor flat five, whatever though, fourth fret root

  • You sound exactly like paco pena!

  • I love this but cant find the tabs for it...

  • Hi!

    Thanks for that nice lesson

However, I've a question. In your video you use a c#-min 7b5. The highest tone e resolves into a f-tone - that's why - I guess - you talk about a chromatic progression. But in what harmonic context do I have to put that chord? Is it a kind of substitution? It ist not part of the key of G. Is it an alterated-chord? It really sounds nice but I do not understand....

    Thanks for reply!

    Thomas

  • Hey man this is amazingly useful!!!

    it's great and swesome playing!!!

but i've got a question this vid cuts off some of the licks left and when i go to part 2 of 1 you don't go over them??

are you ever gunna cover the licks thanks man!!!

  • Thank you, Fantastic

  • This is genius! I hope you get a million views for this you really deserve it, I've been looking for something like this for ages - its so great you go through it carefully. I also really like your analysis it gives me a new appreciation for Pass's incredible talent and allows for those of us who don't have your knowledge and ability to transcribe to benefit from being able to play such a seminal piece of music. I'd give it 20 stars if I could...

  • beautiful one!

  • how do you transcribe chords. in rock music its ok but in jazz im finding it really hard.

  • thankyou, if u have time could u please do a cover of the song so that i can hear how you play it. thanks heaps

    lookin foward to it

  • awesome! i wanted to learn that piece in a long time! when do you expect to upload the rest of it? :)

  • Nice one, isn't it a Cmaj9#11 at 3:40 though?

  • Good lesson! Thanks!

BTW, should it be F#m7b5 around 4:12?

  • thanks! yep, not F but F#m7 :)

  • @lzapped Hi. This kind of music is a bit above my level of ability on the guitar, but I can't resist trying to play it because it sounds so good and you make it look so easy. Thankyou and I will be looking at the whole series.

  • @lzapped also I like how you use the note name of a string then the fret you are depressing, instead of 3rd string 4 fret, second finger...confusing. Your lessons are great

  • @kingweck

Depends on what sort of Bass line you like and are playing. (Bass line is the most important part of a Chord-Melody' Solo. Believe me.) You can explore 1000's of possibilities around the bass line you choose, for the chords you want to play. There are always substitutions, and these DO rely on the bass-line.

    HTH .

    MC.

  • What type of guitar is that?

  • polu wraio arrangment!! wraios! euxaristw polu, polu voithitiko!:)

  • euxaristw :)

  • I love Joe, great job transcribing and thanks a lot for making this vid! You're the best!

  • Thanks, really helpful!
