hmm. that looks like a place that has caught my fancy... i think i might enjoy that .. lol. i have always wondered about airships and inventions... i love technology.. and circuitry.. but their is always something wonderfully amazing about a bunch of old cogs and gears and the possibilities of what they could become and do.
It's usually Victorian era, science fiction/fantasy, most of it's clothing/culture etc is based off of the Victorian era, the technology is usually steam powered. That's basically the gist of it. I don't know if that made much sense, use google lol
@AcceptNoBullshit There are several bands that I know of who do steampunk music. Abney Park, The Clockwork Dolls, and The Cog is Dead are just a few. They have different styles, ranging from heavy rock to english-type ballads, but the lyrics and sounds are steampunk.
@AcceptNoBullshit Mostly design and literature, but a number of bands--many with no specific unifying musical style--have adopted the aesthetic. Unlike goth, country or hip hop music, you couldn't guess what they look like by listening to their music.

I made a steampunk bike using one of those old bikes with the motorcycle- gas tank looking design and prop on the front. It has wings like an ornithopter that move when pedaled. If I lived in California, I would have ridden it to the convention.
Wow! Steampunk is something I would totally invest in! It's such a great look with numerous possibilities! Plus everyone looks like they are having so much fun. It's nice to see people actually dancing too! :D
Ok, EVERYONE here inspired me to write some short story ideas down. This is great, perfect video, amazing creativity in the costumes. I'm new to Steampunk and IN LOVE
Oh my god!! This is so cool! I just discovered steampunk and I love it abd abney park is one my meh fav American bands now. Can someone plz explain wat steampunk really is? Is so uber cool I love the style!!
@earieknight well, steampunk is sort of an "alternate reality" type of thing. You see, in the Victorian era, people believed that in the future, everything would be steam powered. With steampunk, we dress and act as if that was how it played out. Hence, the Victorian era clothing, but also, since its the future, we have all of the steam and metal technology, such as zeppelins and steam powered weapons that they thought they'd have by now. Check out Wikipedia. The article explains it pretty well.
Absolutely amazing. By the way a "Diatonic Button Accordion" is an easy-mode accordion. All the buttons are already tuned to a key, so a "Diatonic Button Accordion" in C major tuning would have the notes C, D, E, F, G, A, B and C for each button therefore u can never really hit a "wrong note"
@ClaytimeOcs - money aint that important. you can basically build stuff out of old pieces from broken machines, old clothes (no one needs them anymore anyway xD) and other cheap stuff. Just give it a try. Maybe it won't be the best costume out there, but I bet it will still look good :)
@Dan4Dresden I posted 8 months ago when I was starting my life in steampunk and I come back to this video constantly. I want to show you my look now. See if you approve x3

Like the band Abney Parks music. I just can't help thinking each time I've watched them, they're wearing the same outfits. Time to retire the Scottish witchdoctor wardrobe.
Oh god, I have never seen such a massive waste of sperm in my entire life. Also, what kind of weird fucking fetish revovles around wearing piece of broken clocks and thrift-store hipster clothes? I mean, I guess I could call this a fetish, but in fetish communities at least one of them has to get laid for it to be considered 'sexual'.
Also, whats with all the Dr. Steel merch? Don't these kids know gothfags can't put out good music to save their suicidal lives? Oh thats right, they're retards.

@mushroomswitheyes I don't think it immature to be silly or dress up. It's good to have a hobby, or a craft. Adults need to let go, and I hope I still have a sense of goofiness as an adult.
@mushroomswitheyes Every form of entertainment involves playing make believe and acting silly, from acting to professional sports. (Disagree? "Let's put on tights and armor, call ourselves raiders, and do battle with buccaneers!" Did I just describe LARPing or football?)
@mushroomswitheyes I guess all adults have to be be boring and un-fun, huh? Some people just gotta live a little :P If i grow up and don't have as much fun as i do now, i'd kill myself. (don't take that suicide part literally,
it' s just a hyperbole.) And if adults "playing make-believe and being silly" is wrong, i don't wanna be right.
I know for a fact New Orleans has a vast Sp underground yet as dan4 says it's a tad impractical to get all that gear on on a regular basis. And if you don't live in NOLa you have no damn clue about how hot it gets here, imagine that and wearing all that stuff on top of it...yikes. I still laugh when i see goth kids out in the daytime...no amount of self expression is worth wearing that much clothing and die of a heat stroke.
My first time seeing this steampunk thing. I have to say its very interesting, and i live all the creations these people have come up with. Only thing i didn't like was the music xD just wasnt my cup of tea.
Wow......pretty crazy. Pretty sure there are no steampunks here in Louisiana. Call me backwoods or country, but I've never heard of steampunks til today. I guess it's not a whole lot different from Greasers. People that wish they were born in a different time and love to relive the past? Someone tell me if I'm wrong. I'm not judging anyone or anything here
@jonahmelancon Actually, NOLA has lots of people into Steampunk, cos NOLA's a mecca for dramatic subcultures (voodoo, vampires, goth even jazz). In fact, steampunk appeals to many people from those niches since it borrows something from all. I don't know how so many miffed posters even found this vid. I've had to delete the first haters just this week and it's 2 yrs old! SP is NOT just Victorian era fanatics. It celebrates creative expression, invention & anachronistic fiction, like Jules Verne.
@Dan4Dresden I had a feeling I would come off as ignorant. I could definately see New Orleans having a few steampunks. I work in N.O., but just haven't seen any. If it celebrates creative expression as you say, it's most likely there. Thank you for the info and not being an ass about it.
@jonahmelancon Thank you for asking about it. :-) It's not surprising you don't see Steampunk all around town like you might see other subcultures like punks, rockabillies or gangstas, since it's not really a lifestyle but more of a hobby for special events, parties, clubs etc. The getup is too impractical, buttloads-of-pricey and too silly for daily wear. And who'd want to get shot carrying a fake plasma-ray flintlock, anyway? Still, if you happen to see a few goths wearing BROWN, that's SP.
@jonahmelancon: most greasers do not wish they were born in another era, because the 1950's were anything but a socially free time period. If steampunk was about people wishing they were from another era, they'd simply be doing victoria era reenactments. As you saw, people were dressed in clothing from many different eras, most from mixed eras, & they had fantastical machinary that couldn't have been made by the common man even as recently as 20 years ago.
Are these people actually serious? People spend their time trying to make there fashion old fashioned? These people look like they just got off of a airship, which is probably the intent.
this is fascinated. i didn't know there was an actual steampunk community. i knew about the steampunk genre of films and books. i love how this links to goth and new wave music too.
wish i could go D: im all the way in texas OTL i really need at least ONE steampunk outfit. im more into the Lolita fashion, so if i could combine the two, thatd make me so happy<3

I really wish Holly could Post a Tutorial or something on how to make her wings stick out and fold up. Meh, I'll figure it out soon enough.

@yelirjp Go to Instructables and search wings. I've seen examples of folding wings there.
