  • @yowatsupdudesweet so true.

  • if i was there, i would have been losing my mind

  • holy fuck worst crowd ever

  • @TTHproductions

I kno rite? I mean the crowd should be jumping around and causing all kinds of ruckus, they should be crowd surfing like on TV. They are taking in the music, It's quite common with a lot of indie shows... you know where people appreciate the music and go to see the bands, not jump around like fucking goons.

  • @Samlawd yeah kind of, concerts are more exciting when people have fun

  • man you suck so bad i feel like killing you

  • good shit...the lead singer tim kinsella is my english teacher at school of the art institute of chicago, tightest fucking dude ever

  • proof?

  • LUCKY!

  • @Generalbas1972

Ah, but that's what MADE Cap'n Jazz...

  • @Generalbas1972 Does it matter?

  • Awsome

  • @JackRR952 wow i am so jealous of you

  • @JackRR952 oh fucking yeah

  • @JackRR952 no fucking way

  • @JackRR952 you lucky bastard

  • @JackRR952 you're so fucking lucky!

  • @JackRR952

no fucking way! you are amazingly lucky to know this man haha

  • @JackRR952 YOU FUCKING LUCKY MOTHER FUCKER

  • @JackRR952 dude, that has to be the coolest thing ever. what does he teach? does he ever talk about all of his amazing musical conquests, or his incredibly talented family?

  • @JackRR952 That's fucking awesome...having the lead singer of one of the most influential emo bands ever as your English teacher....that's fucking awesome.

  • Dear bass player, the audience is the other direction.

  • bass players from mid 90s indie rock and post-emo bands always played with the back facing the audience.

  • one of my favorite bands ever

  • I love you. A lot.

  • this is probabally right around the time the band left tim kinsella at an ihop 400 miles from home for being such a trainwreck

  • I would be jammin out and bashin kids heads in

  • If only the crowd knew how legendary this band would be they'd be throwing themselves around rather than jumping in place.

  • Dear sir, might you be a skier that goes to West Virginia University?

  • gods

  • except for this one, cause it's way fucking better

  • Comment removed

  • anyone know what year this was done/filmed?

  • I think it was 91 or something..should be on their hits.rarities discs

  • tears for fears? this was sung by a-ha right? anyway, badass cover.

  • Yep, a-ha =]

  • Hey, I couldn't agree more. And I also appreciate that when these guys broke up, they formed several more of the most influential bands in the genre. I never was a huge fan of Joan of Arc, but I also didn't give it enough time to sink in...

  • maybe the greatest cover ive ever heard??

  • I love this band, but let's face it, they weren't exactly the greatest masters on their respective instruments, and it's just awesome that they could absolutely rock such an ambitious cover.

  • mike kinsella is a fucking genious. silence yourself now

  • You're a fucking idiot. Maybe he was an artistic genius but that didn't exactly make a full translation to whatever instrument he plays.

  • that crowd sucks, just standing there? C'mon

  • Then why the fuck did you waste 3 minutes to type something? attention grabber.

  • seems you didn't get the beauty of casual, totally "unpretty", ugly things. not everything you like has to be beautiful. and a taught singer could never show this particular emotion.

by the way, i don't think those guys did it for the girls. you know, they're emo, pretty sure they're gay, don't you think?

    Fuck prejudices.

  • you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. it's unfortunate, because maybe if your mind were a bit more open to new things, you would open your doors to a whole new world of music.

enjoy your fall out boy albums.

  • LOL Fall Out Boy? No, I don't listen to girls' music either. Thanks, but I'll take Queens of the Stone Age over any of this shit any day. Or Led Zeppelin, or the Beatles. Hell, I'd even take german opera over this crap.

And clique, I've listened to many different bands with similar styles to this, so I can fairly generally say that I don't like any of it.

And slayer, just because you're ugly doesn't mean the music you listen to has to be.

  • rumragget - y'know what, you are totally right. not every type of music is for everybody. i respect your opinion and your right to have it. i am quite sure the world would be a boring place if everybody listened to the same music, wore the same clothes, etc...

    my bad, dude.

  • actually they ARE emo, they were one of the first to bring the old, 'real' emo from the underground to the surface.

  • Thanks for the history lesson, fourfa.

  • Where did they buy their tuners. I gotta get one like that! haha..just kidding.

  • piano solo was rad

  • whether or not they are the kings of midwestern Emo...

they pioneered a genre of punk, and punk aesthetic that's made me obsessed, and enjoy...

  • Comment removed

  • stfu dude...

  • go fuck yourself faggot

  • Haha love how Tim can sing better live than on he record.

  • I like how he's wearing a Reese's shirt while covering an A-Ha song... hilarious. =p

  • the vocalist reminds me of Ian Curtis. Awesome cover.

  • kinsella is a god...

  • hot damn cap'n jazz is some of the greatest music i've ever heard no one's ever really been able to replicate their sound

ps-anyone know when this was filmed?

  • at the drive in "acrobat tenemant" = cap'n jazz

  • Haha, very true.

  • Cap'n Jazz, Joan of Arc, Owls, and any other manifestation of Tim Kinsella's genius should never be referred to as emo simply because Kinsella didn't accept the term.

    That's it and that's all.

  • I love this band to greta amounts.

Hardcore Punk/Emotional Hardcore (AKA The Real emo/emocore bands) FTW!

  • i hardly recognized the song, but it was TOTALLY AWESOME.

    =D

  • szuperrr song,,,

  • i love cap'n jazz.

  • that was a freakin great coverr

  • This song has so much win that can't be contained.

  • Awsome.

  • algernon played at my house a few months ago and rocked so bad

  • lucky!

  • if algernon came to indiana, i'd cream my pants.

  • Awesome.

Cap'n Jazz is my favorite out of all Tim Kinsella's other projects.

  • ya definatly but i do like joan of arc they are just about the only real emo band left

  • there is an emo revival going on in pennsylavania

    check out bands like :

    algernon cadwallader

    street smart cyclist

    hightide hotel

  • ya i will ive been lookin 4 new music to listen 2 thx

  • street smart cyclist's are shit man

  • michigan is shaping up again too: empire! empire! (i was a lonely estate) like american football, mineral, etc

  • PA FTW!

street smart is from my town,

    their drummer is my neighbor.

    they fucking pwn.

  • Hah aI love the keyboard solo, they should have recorded it that way

  • ifthis is real emo..

    it isnt too bad

  • ya it is, you should listen to antioch arrow if you like these guys.

  • it's pretty damned low to have people come to see another bands performance of a video then say its shitty. cap'n jazz was a great band. its a matter of taste in music, but at least have some respect since they're probably bigger than your bands...

  • How can people like cover songs? Does that really need to be explained?

  • fuck u this is better than any other bands cover

  • good shit

  • Yes, emotive punk died way back in the 80's don't call this emo, call it good music. Also, anything most kids call emo nowadays doesn't really have any relation to first wave emotive punk. so uh, gtfo with comparing that shit and just enjoy! :D

  • Yeah...but this IS emo. So um...your point is kinda invalid.

  • *post emo

  • genres are fucking stupid. it doesn't matter. you should just listen to what you think sounds good.

  • i know right?! fuck, i hate when people argue over genres

  • there's no point isn't it?

  • he does the keyboard solo with his lips. love this.

  • one of the few good covers

  • what a great band

  • oh ok i love this song. I had no idea this was emo :) thanks u.

  • if i had any ounce of intelligence or typing skills i'd have written "they're"

  • this is real emo music not that other crap that people say is emo but insttead is just crap rock

  • i many ways i wish more music like this was created today, and not just cap 'n jazz, but bands like Texas is the Reason, Owl, Jawbreaker, and Fugazi. I know its only natural for music to evoulve, but with bands like paramore and all time low (despite that these are just power pop bands that mtv labled emo) i feel like this genere has gone backwards, only a few bands like circa survive and silverstien are being pogressive.

  • if you go a little deeper into passed the mainstream acts there are some really good bands still out there.

  • in reality the emo scene died long before mtv got their hands on it. check out godspeed you black emperor, mogwai, guided by voices etc for the real shit. revolution (rites of spring) summer died in the 80's. mtv is fucking twenty odd years behind in what was once cool.

  • GYBE = emo? i never identified them with any bands even vaguely associated with the genre..SDRE or Rite of spring or anything..gybe is good but i think of them as post-rock since theire entirely instrumental and dont rely on the traditional "rock" stylings that emo uses at all

  • The same can be said about Mogwai. And calling GBV emo is stretching it.

  • Sunny Day Real Estate, Braid, Cursive, Mineral, etc,

  • i agree with fallofjordan capn jazz rules

  • Much better then the JB version

  • it got cut out, but in the long versions of the set, right before this, Tim humbly says "This song means so much..."

just throwing that out there for people who think Cap'n Jazz is disrespectful or anything for covering such a great song

  • Mike and Tim own

  • hell yes.

  • listen to other Cap'n Jazz songs before you determine what is good and what is bad by them.

  • i am so embarassed for you. have you ever heard cap'n jazz? "off" is their sound. it is intentional.

  • What is Wrong With You. This is Cap'n Jazz. They Revolutionized The Genre Chibi. This Wasn't About Being Perfect, They Did Exactly What They Wanted, Left Their Mark, And Did So In a Big Way. Don't Mess With The Jazz...

  • Analphabetapolothology, sucha good album name

  • yeah, such a good album aswell

  • man, what a lame audience. i'd be so stoked if i was there for that.

  • I wish i could do a cover of Cap'n Jazz so much. they are so amazing.

  • you sir are a square. learn about music history, then post an intelligent comment. go fucking watch punk'd and jerk it to ashton kutcher if you cant dig on cap'n jazz.

  • Fuck you and learn to appreciate different styles of music. You can't tell me A-ha was better than Cap'n Jazz.

  • I just noticed how great full i am, on how someone posted these videos :P so great...

  • i love this really really love it

  • Kinsella's are...fucking amazing.

  • the best

  • omg this kicks reel big fucking fishes arse.
