when i first started writing my own songs, i just played around with the chords i knew, so i recommend you just do that until something sounds nice together...then, as you get better, unless you feel comfortable now, and i'm sure you will, there are actually charts and chord progressions that you can play with until you come up with an original progression and/or riff...keep writing man...and you can find the charts online or in stores i think...
