I really enjoyed the soundtrack of this second pilot, I kind of wish they would have continued on with this or even updated for maybe the later series.
@dv8musik The soundtrack for both pilots are available. Try Amazon.com. I was fortunate to find the CDs for it and two other CDs of the actual scores from the series at a used CD place.
This was how the second "pilot" looked, as it was submitted to NBC in February 1966- the one that finally sold the series to the network. Various changes were made before it aired, including a return to Alex Courage's original theme used in "The Cage", elimination of certain lines of dialogue that NBC insisted upon, as well as some "tightening" of scenes and changes in the overall presentation...
@clipdan It's legit! The second STAR TREK pilot was formatted like a typical Quinn Martin Production, "Tonight's Episode," "Act I," "Epilogue" etc. Also, a short scene of Gary Mitchell's first appearance was cut from the broadcast version.
This episode shows Kirk at his reckless worst as a commander. If all this were real he would have been relieved of command. You almost have to wonder if he was because it seems to have been a couple years before the rest of the series.
Of course it's legit. It's been floating around conventions for years. It's the original version of the episode before they altered it to broadcast with the other episodes of the series. Odd that Paramount has never seen fit to release the original versions of either pilot. For The Prisoner, they released the alternate version of The Chimes Of Big Ben.
Whoah! Is this legit? I've got that episode on dvd and it does not include that intro. Is that something you created, or was it cut from the final release? It really sounds like Shat, so I am thinking this is quite a rare find. Well done! Where did you get it?
