@VIPDERFUL their a TEAM i mean hes her coach she even admitted that if she didnt ahve Brian as a coach she probably wouldnt have made it so far. Their contract ended and I think shes looking for a new coach (or thats what I heard)
@Tinafigureskating she got braces XP her lower jaw teeth was infront of your top teeth. its pretty common. And thats the only thing she did. There was a rumour in China that she got plastic surgery but thats not true XD when your teeth is like that it naturally makes you look bad. Anyways, you can see her Junior performances and see that shes wearing braces, fixing the teeth XP
I'm curious, how does Kim yuna's coach communicate with her? Her english obviously isnt that good, I've heard her be interviewed before. Maybe she can understand better than speak it?
@rtc7788 It's not that people cant understand her, it's that her vocabulary is limited, so she ends up repeating a lot of her words. Thanks for the info
@Huhmasta Well to "communicate" with her, you don't need to constantly use complex words. By how she talks, she's clearly capable of comprehending English.
this ramix2006 is a freakish Japanese who cannot accept the result because it is too painful for him/her to accept the fact that Mao has lost to Kim by a very wide margin even with her triple axels which were to be fair, should've been downgraded due to underrotation. Now this crazy person is leaving malicious comments on every single video of Yu-Na. Get a life you sore loser.
Anyone wonder why most of sports bettors never placed their money on ladies figure skating? Because it was no match. Yu-na was so highly favorite, there's no reason to place their money on anyone. If they place money on Yu-na, risk/reward is very horrible since if Yu-na wins, they only win little but if Yu-na loses, they lose so much. While Mao's ROI(Return on Investment) was very high bcz she was underdog, betting on her = donation to bookies. Odds of Mao winning was 15:2(11%).
Great video. It is really sweet when Yuna said she would congratulate Brian if she won, after Brian said again and again 'it is her game'. I love dream team!
Not only Scott Hamilton and Kristi Yamaguchi. Even figure skating pros such as Michelle Kwan, Sasha Cohen, and Tara Lipinski also said the same thing. Sasha was a figure skating analyst for Yahoo News and she also said Yu-na has a gold medal locked in due to her talent that nobody can touch. After the short program, Sasha knew Yuna locked the gold.
troll harder bitch. :) Give credit where it's due and don't let your selfish nationalistic bullshit get in the way. Talent is talent. no matter what ethnicity.
You skate fast, with high speed. She doesn't need to, she just does it because it's more difficult to land. So she gets alot of height and distance in her jump. Which improves her GoE.
Other skaters cannot go as fast as Yuna even if they tried. If they tried, they'd fall.
In doing those triple axles, Mao just looked helpless, tired, given up, spent, etc. Yuna was the only skater that flowed across the whole ice rink as if it was the palm of her hand. Mao seemed to hit speed bumps too often.
And watching performances, all of it both the SP and LP, Yuna was the only ONE that did not make any mistake. A true flawless and legendary performances.
But on another note, the biaaatchy, scary, angry Mao with her opening pose in the LP looked super hot.
"biatchy", scary, angry Mao? She had a fierce look which is most likely the characteristic of her performance. Should she have looked all happy and bubbly performing to Bells of Moscow?
hmm, no, but she had a extra edge in her, knowing that she had a tough mountain to climb... maybe even thought Yuna's scores were way over inflated. And of course, she didn't genuinely look happy performing it in the second half and afterwards.
But that's just my description of a smokkin lady (in that dark edgy way).
Are you stupid? How is it track and field when you're skating. Skating isn't track and field. Doing a technical difficult jump while doing it flawlessly without needing to slow down increases the grade of execution.
When I mean feel the music, you gotta love your program to your bone. I'm only a bboy but when I see someone do any type of dance, I can tell and differentiate between dancers who let music move them through their bones and dancers who are just doing moves to impress. Yuna performed both of her shows to express herself. Mao only expressed herself in short program but only danced to impress in long program. Expression prevails over impression. Impression is more prone flaws and errors.
No she can't. Mao cannot do a 3lz+3l. Nor can she do any 3-3 with the same GoE as Yuna. Yuna is unique when she does 3-3, she goes into them at full speed, no other female skater does that. Mao's artistry is weak compared to Yuna's as well.
Actually, Mao's artistry in short program was beautiful too. But her freeskate was very horrible. I mean, why is she even dancing to Bells of Moscow? I don't think she even enjoys it. It honestly looked more like Tatiana making up the choreography and then tell Mao to do this, this, this, and that in certain parts of the song. Yu-na felt the music and her freeskate song is related to everything she loves. She took violin lessons, she likes piano music, and also inspired by Kwan.
I didn't mean Mao's artistry is bad. I just mean it's inferior to Yuna's. I kind of liked Bells of Moscow, but for the first like 3/4th of it she looked really nervous and blank, then started to pick up about the last quarter of it.
I don't think you get what I meant. Mao didn't feel the music for Bells of Moscow. She's focusing too much on technicality. In dancing, if you're confident and put faith into your piece, you don't really screw up. Yuna skated very well as if she's warped into her theme of Piano Concerto and flowed very well. Mao didn't look like she was feeling the music. It just looked like Tatiana setting everything up and then use Mao around like a puppet. Mao should've chosen a better theme that she loves.
then PLEASE TRY~~Mao cannt 3L and 3S. How can she do Yuna's program? I am disgusted regular Japanese thinking like this. Please play Mao's clip. Why did you come here and boast of Mao? Is her clip less popular than Yuna?

Unless you can tell me why judges would ever give a shit about Koreans to rig scores for Yu-na, I suggest you take your head out of your ass or get near half of their accomplishments before berating them.
Learn the definition of FIGURE SKATING. This isn't Ice Jumping Competition or Icenastics. If Figure Skating is about who can perform quadruple, there shouldn't be any music or footwork involved.
No offense to Mao, she doesn't seem to enjoy her free skate program. Why is she dancing to Bells of Moscow? It honestly looks like Tatiana made a program, then tell Mao to do this this this and that. No flava, no charisma. But her short program was amazing. Ever wonder why she made mistakes?
I love how in the end of this she mentions Brain. Very selfless of her and it's nice to know that even with all of this success she has her head is still on her shoulders and she doesn't diss the people that got her there and I think she knows that. It's very lovley.
I don't think we should compare Yuna to other past champions like we are here. 4 years is a long time to wait for the olympics and alot of stuff can happen in 1 year, let alone 4 years! So just wait and see what happens.
*sigh*, unlike short-track/speed skating, Korea has to wait about 10-12 years to develop Yu-na's proteges. I am really going to miss her since she has achieved her goals and will likely retire. She's a very inspirational model to all Koreans. She has inspired me that if I put my heart into anything I love, I can succeed due to my heritage regardless of if there aren't any Koreans in the past who has succeeded in that field.
Retiring as in not coming out in next Olympics. She's set for life. Usually, gold medalists retire after they achieve what they wanted. With so many sponsorships, endorsements, commercials, etc, I doubt she'll skate for the next Olympics because she doesn't need to skate anymore to prove that she's the best. Everyone in the world knows. She can now rest like a queen. I mean, sure, she'll still enter competitions because she loves skating but not the next Olympics.
Ah ic, didn't know you meant retire from the next Olympics. Well...the way I see it is most skaters do retire when they get gold in the Olympics, but I think it is due to personal reasons, but not a standard. If the other skaters do it, it is a decision they each made for themselves, rather than it being traditional to retire. So I see nothing stopping Yuna to compete in the next Olympics and make more history, albeit personal reasons and the same reasons why the other skaters retired.
Well, there's nothing stopping her. There's no restriction that prevents her. But I'm judging it based on other past gold medalists' experience. Lot of gold medalists quit after they receive their gold medals. I've watched Figure skating since 98 when kwan got silver. Yamaguchi, Lipinsky, Hughes all quit after receiving their gold since there's nothing to prove any further than the Olympics.
Actually many go professional. Although i'd like to see Yuna grab more world titles to cement her legacy. She has always looked up to Michelle Kwan as a role model and i hope she follows in her footsteps.
Same here, rtc7788. Actually one thing I really hate and hope the people stop doing it are the non professional figure skating people asking questions to Michelle Kwan and Kristi Yamaguchi stuff like "Don't you think Yuna is the best of all time?/Have you ever seen a better performance?". Omg saying that to them is really disrespectful in my opinion. The people do have nice intentions but it irks me, indirectly dissing Kwan and Yamaguchi. I just wish they just say Yuna is great, andleaveitatthat
@pgaru - lol it's because Yuna is like the big buzz in the skating world today. There hasn't been such a dominant champion for along time. I haven't heard anyone ask them those two questions yet but i do here interviewers asking for their opinions on Yuna. It seems everyone agrees Yuna is amazing, and that she is on her way to becoming a legend.
Look at what happened to women's golf. The LPGA is now dominated by Koreans because of Seri Pak's inspiration.
Firgure skating will perhaps eventually be dominated by Korean skaters too? Koreans seem to have a knack at excelling at things that they set their minds to. They come out of nowhere and suddently - BAMN!...they own it!
Hell...even the bboy world, the Koreans own it. They came out of nowhere!...and fast! Check it out for yourself.
The thing is Koreans were able to dominate LPGA because even before Seri Pak, there were several Korean golfers planned to go professional but Seri Pak became the first one of those professional golfers to go professional. Even if there was no Seri Pak, there were other wave of potential Korean golfers ready to go pro. Figure skating will take some time because it's very sudden. I know Koreans will dominate but it'll be about 8 years because figure skating is so sudden for Koreans, unlike golf.
LOL, you bboy? me too, well, I used to. But actually, even though Koreans did come out of nowhere in bboying, Korea actually started in 97. It wasn't as sudden as figure skating. Even during 2002, when Expression won BOTY, there was already list of potential crews ready to go worldwide(Gamblers, Last4One, Obowang(Extreme Crew), Rivers, Jinjo Crew, etc.) Unlike that, there's currently no Korean skaters ready to go professional yet. But Koreans will dominate very soon. Inspiration is a big factor.
I like the fact that Koreans do very well and win gold medals or championships once they take the sport seriously and commit to it. There's nothing restricting Koreans from winning future figure skating competitions if they take the sport seriously now. They have the body and mentality for it. We're not inflating Korean egos. It's called being proud of our heritage. =) Having inspirational Korean like Yu-na inspires all other Koreans to do what they love regardless of non-peer support.
I can't say "Yu na is best in the ladies figure history" but, she becomes a legend day by day. Well done,Queen Yu na. Take care..and be careful of crazy monkeies and a big rat living in Korea.
That's different. Even a follower of YuNaKim didn't notice. A through rest, a nerve spread on by the ear no one. JESTINA pointed out to Japanese rushed and eliminated YuNa from a site. But it's already late. Problem in time.
thanks for giving us insight to their relationship of athlete and coach they work well together. it's sheer cinema on ice! it's like Frederico Fillini & Nino Rota working together to make powerful art through the medium of film and music. bravo! bravo!
Orser is the perfect match for Yuna. U can see his wistfulness for an Olympic gold after allowing it to slip thru his hands twice in his own skating career. Isn't it fitting that he crossd paths with the current greatest female skater in the world? Also, there's something humorously laid back about him that complements Yuna's seemingly effortless talent. Let's hope they can make more magic together. I'm waiting 2 c what else he can come up with for this girl :) The Lord works in mysterious ways.
I heard she's at University which means she is fond of studying, too. She's great.. what a role model- she puts 110% into what she does. I heard while the others put in 24 hrs/wk of practice time, she put in 48hrs/wk... she deserves everything she gets... including the Lloyd's of London extra mil ...
Shes a role model for me!!she has a magnetic personality i admire her personality!!Genuine passions are easy to pass on to somebody else.I love Yuna and Brian Orser
@DomoXDWobbuffet All East Asian surnames come before the given name. But it's fine to use the Western order when in a Western context. It's actually Yun and Ah, not Yu Na
Her performances are worth watching over and over. She's never competed without standing on the podium, that's incredible. I wish there was a DVD that covered her career. "The Best of Yuna Kim" would sell many copies.
It was Yuna's dream to win Gold at the Olympics. After those years of hard work and the tremendous pressure, it's no wonder she broke down in tears after her long program and the medal ceremony. The burden from her mother country was finally lifted.
Kim Yuna's flawless performance will be remembered forever
brian orser finally got his gold through yuna kim and he can finally have a nice closure to his olympic journey. i'm so happy for both of them. they were the highlight of the olympics for me too.
I KNOW! Sorry to write that in caps but I feel David Wilson is not getting his due praise as well. Everyone is praises Orser(which is definitely deserving), but no one gives David Wilson credit, who choreographs the beautiful and seamless programs. I want to see an interview with Wilson and see how he sets the program up and how he feels about teaching it to Yuna.
@1cathar ya im canadian, my favorite part of the olympics BY FAR was yuna kim's performances. i was more stoked about her than i was about canada beating the states in hockey.
I love you Yuna!! At the end, you said that you wanted to win gold medal in Olympic and you made it! I'm very proud of you as a Korean :)

So just wait and see what happens.
new0825 2 years ago 2
*sigh*, unlike short-track/speed skating, Korea has to wait about 10-12 years to develop Yu-na's proteges. I am really going to miss her since she has achieved her goals and will likely retire. She's a very inspirational model to all Koreans. She has inspired me that if I put my heart into anything I love, I can succeed due to my heritage regardless of if there aren't any Koreans in the past who has succeeded in that field.
EdDy4RheelZ 2 years ago 4
Good news, Yuna has no plans whatsoever in retiring.
pgaru in reply to EdDy4RheelZ (Show the comment) 2 years ago 6
Retiring as in not coming out in next Olympics. She's set for life. Usually, gold medalists retire after they achieve what they wanted. With so many sponsorships, endorsements, commercials, etc, I doubt she'll skate for the next Olympics because she doesn't need to skate anymore to prove that she's the best. Everyone in the world knows. She can now rest like a queen. I mean, sure, she'll still enter competitions because she loves skating but not the next Olympics.
EdDy4RheelZ in reply to pgaru (Show the comment) 2 years ago
Ah ic, didn't know you meant retire from the next Olympics. Well...the way I see it is most skaters do retire when they get gold in the Olympics, but I think it is due to personal reasons, but not a standard. If the other skaters do it, it is a decision they each made for themselves, rather than it being traditional to retire. So I see nothing stopping Yuna to compete in the next Olympics and make more history, albeit personal reasons and the same reasons why the other skaters retired.
pgaru in reply to EdDy4RheelZ (Show the comment) 2 years ago
Well, there's nothing stopping her. There's no restriction that prevents her. But I'm judging it based on other past gold medalists' experience. Lot of gold medalists quit after they receive their gold medals. I've watched Figure skating since 98 when kwan got silver. Yamaguchi, Lipinsky, Hughes all quit after receiving their gold since there's nothing to prove any further than the Olympics.

Actually many go professional. Although i'd like to see Yuna grab more world titles to cement her legacy. She has always looked up to Michelle Kwan as a role model and i hope she follows in her footsteps.
rtc7788 in reply to EdDy4RheelZ (Show the comment) 2 years ago
Same here, rtc7788. Actually one thing I really hate and hope the people stop doing it are the non professional figure skating people asking questions to Michelle Kwan and Kristi Yamaguchi stuff like "Don't you think Yuna is the best of all time?/Have you ever seen a better performance?". Omg saying that to them is really disrespectful in my opinion. The people do have nice intentions but it irks me, indirectly dissing Kwan and Yamaguchi. I just wish they just say Yuna is great, andleaveitatthat
pgaru in reply to rtc7788 (Show the comment) 2 years ago

Check it out for yourself.
uAfooLOL in reply to EdDy4RheelZ (Show the comment) 2 years ago 2
Yeah i think it's pretty common knowledge Korea is big in bboying.
rtc7788 in reply to uAfooLOL (Show the comment) 2 years ago
The thing is Koreans were able to dominate LPGA because even before Seri Pak, there were several Korean golfers planned to go professional but Seri Pak became the first one of those professional golfers to go professional. Even if there was no Seri Pak, there were other wave of potential Korean golfers ready to go pro. Figure skating will take some time because it's very sudden. I know Koreans will dominate but it'll be about 8 years because figure skating is so sudden for Koreans, unlike golf.
EdDy4RheelZ in reply to uAfooLOL (Show the comment) 2 years ago
LOL, you bboy? me too, well, I used to. But actually, even though Koreans did come out of nowhere in bboying, Korea actually started in 97. It wasn't as sudden as figure skating. Even during 2002, when Expression won BOTY, there was already list of potential crews ready to go worldwide(Gamblers, Last4One, Obowang(Extreme Crew), Rivers, Jinjo Crew, etc.) Unlike that, there's currently no Korean skaters ready to go professional yet. But Koreans will dominate very soon. Inspiration is a big factor.
EdDy4RheelZ in reply to uAfooLOL (Show the comment) 2 years ago
@EdDy4RheelZ
Yeah, I used to break when I was a little kid, then gave it up because it sort of faded away. I did it for fun, then forgot about it.
Then, someone told me that Koreans have been kicking ass at bboying and I didn't believe it! I checked out youtube and was like, "Holy Shit!"
I'm not trying to inflate Korean egos, but it seems that Koreans take things to a different level when they commit to it. They raise the bar.
Anyway...good luck and thanks for your reply.
uAfooLOL in reply to EdDy4RheelZ (Show the comment) 2 years ago
I like the fact that Koreans do very well and win gold medals or championships once they take the sport seriously and commit to it. There's nothing restricting Koreans from winning future figure skating competitions if they take the sport seriously now. They have the body and mentality for it. We're not inflating Korean egos. It's called being proud of our heritage. =) Having inspirational Korean like Yu-na inspires all other Koreans to do what they love regardless of non-peer support.

That's different. Even a follower of YuNaKim didn't notice. A through rest, a nerve spread on by the ear no one. JESTINA pointed out to Japanese rushed and eliminated YuNa from a site. But it's already late. Problem in time.

Her first name is Yuna, her last name is Kim. It's actually pronounced Yeon-Ah though

In a lot of asian countries it's normal to say their surname first than their given name.
rtc7788 in reply to DomoXDWobbuffet (Show the comment) 2 years ago
@DomoXDWobbuffet All East Asian surnames come before the given name. But it's fine to use the Western order when in a Western context. It's actually Yun and Ah, not Yu Na

Her performances are worth watching over and over. She's never competed without standing on the podium, that's incredible. I wish there was a DVD that covered her career. "The Best of Yuna Kim" would sell many copies.
Upstreamswimmer 2 years ago 17
@Upstreamswimmer But "The Best of Yuna Kim" DVD would be so many hours long! like how can you select which performances to include?!

Brian coached her well, and David made some awesome choreography. Yuna delivered with it.
rtc7788 in reply to Fullmuny (Show the comment) 2 years ago
