I got to see them do this right after it first came out.One of the best concerts I've ever been to in my life.I will always love their music.Mircles do happen !
This song came out years before I was even thought of, but I grew up on music like this. I'm 23 and I can really appreciate beautiful pieces of musical art like this. This is one of my all time favorite classic songs that I will always love. Beautiful song....
My first child was concieved while this song played softly on the stereo beside the bed. It sounds corny but very, very true. Still today, 36 years later, when my wife and I hear this masterpiece we both just stop and look at each other and just smile. Our minds zoom back years ago when we were locked in love, creating life and it seems that all the warmth felt back then comes back in a strange sort of way but still just as beautiful now as it was then. Thanks, this keeps me young.
This song shimmers with a light that brings peace to the soul; it's a cool breeze before life got complicated - nostalgia for an easier life. It's like a beacon to lead us back, attuning us to how it felt so we can recapture it/recognize it. Rambling, sorry. Great song!
Marty Balin's voice has no equal; exquisite is an understatement. He sings and your soul vibrates.... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!
And this song (THIS album/long version - not the radio cut [ugh!]) is beyond brilliant. Definitely the best work of any "Jefferson" incarnation.... Have to play it over and over - it's addicting.
And whatever your age - if you're not "in the mood" during or after listening to this super-seductive work of art, maybe you're not human (or dead; check your pulse)!
I wasn't born yet when this song came out. But dreamy songs like this and Nights In White Satin from The Moody Blues you just don't get much from todays bands or they are underground and hard to find.
For so many years I have bought Marty Balins music and anything on him. I just think his music is so good and his voice was that of an angel. I was listening to him when I was about ten years old.lol Great Song sung by one the best of them all. God Bless You and thanks for this great post. smile
WHOA I always loved this song, but never knew all of the lyrics, what a sexy love song. These lyrics are sure to get you in the mood HA . Thanks for posting with these lyrics!
This is one of those songs that touches your heart strings and strums them intensely! Amazing song, Amazing lyrics, Amazing music..Amazing JEFFERSON STARSHIP! No music like this music ever!
@2009Denisem This is a nice smooth song that just melts your heart.....the kind of song you would play on a nice sunny Sunday afternoon relaxing in the garden. great post ridina94softail and thank you for sharing Denise.
Whether you like this performance or not you probably like the studio.I love this song. I think this song has a place in everyone's heart and you may have heard it a thousand times before that happened and if it hasn't yet it can still happen and if does it won't be a miracle but i guarantee you'll believe....Can i get a thumbs up from all those who believe??
How absolutely thoughtful of you to have posted your memo, I read it with great enthusiasm. The Jefferson Starship, and some other bands from the mid 70's don't get the respect they deserve. I wish we could at least get some of your music on the classic rock rotation.
Pete, thanks for the footnotes. Istill see John Barbata once in awhile. We're both living in Oklahoma, and things are quiet here. I enjoyed seeing you guys play, and we met once in Houston when I worked at K.P.F.T., Pacifica radio. Alias
One of the most romantic songs ever, I wasn't born when this came out, but listened to it alot growing up, for the one that falls with your whole heart, this one's for you.
I remember this song from when I was a young man, the world was so much different from today, such changes, but, the sentiment is still the same...I still believe in miracles...and never say never.....
I saw the original Jefferson Starship at the House of Blues in NYC in 2008. This song seriously brings back so many great memories of that concert and that trip that I have to hold back the tears. Thanks for the memories!
-Back of my parents' Plymouth Valiant, driving through the Seventies Catskill Mountains, head tilted back, looking up at the clouds, stars through the rear windshield, Miracles playing on the stock AM radio.
when i hear jefferson starship it brings me back in time at the age of 17 17 years old was a wonderful experice for me in my life time a age to always remember a time of my life id always rememebr no matter how old iam the age 17 will always be in my mind body and soul iam so thankful of the music i had while growing up because of that my days that iam down its the muic thats puts a smile right back on my face
i know for me, a life changing song back when i was a teen..for sure...a perfect love song and a great theme to the concept of love...
sometimes it takes a miracle, sometimes more than that..but thats the chance we do have to take in life sometimes, win or lose....
damn it...losing sucks, but we have to pick ourselves up, kick ass and move on to bigger and better things and partners in life..take my word for it....to my past ladies, i love you all....and cant ever forget any of u...pete..
Thank you to the person who posted this beautiful song filled with so much love. I was only about 15 when this song came out. I was a romantic then, and still a romantic now. The heart doesn´t change thru the years, not mine anyway..........
This is a song I like to hear while I am looking up at dark winter skys in December towards the holiday season. It has that type of tone. Besides that very scenario is when I heard it for the 1st time in November 1975 from my friends parents radio. I was just 8 then, and I still like it.
I have very little official knowledge of music, but I read these lyrics and really appreciate the poetic nature of this song. So many hit songs have 3 or 4 short stanzas followed by the chorus. This song is a long dialogue or almost in soliloque form. Add the haunting melody and it is pure gold. Just don't make 'em like this anymore
There are just not enough words to explain the beauty of this song the beginning alone just puts you in a trans and throws you back in time when the world was a better place. I was 10yrs old when this came out and now I am 44 and when I have a bad day I listen to this and it takes the stress and tension away. Thank you Starship for sharing your gifts and talents with us.
@sysfixr You might have been a little older, I'm 39 and I was 5 or 6 the first time I heard it. I think it came out in 1975 or 76, but was played a lot in 77 as well.
About 6 years ago I saw jefferson starship at the bottom line in new york city. Its was amazing. for 20 dollars I was 10 feet away from marty balin and paul kantner singiing all there hits.
Grace slick was not there but it was still a great show. Paul kantner got very drunk and started screaming into the mic how the manager of the bottom line sucks. That was the last time they were aloud to perform at the now closed bottom line. What a show. they did all their hits. the best in life cheap.
Incredible. It is very moving to view the photos of the band toward the end of this video, seeing how Grace looks now compared to just 25 years ago, and then viewing the photo of the member who died in 1990. Life is so sad. We all get older, we all die, and all great things and life come to and end, just as did Jefferson Airplane and the 1960s.
I want to thank "You Tube" for giving me the oppertunitey to here this again. I am 57 and listen to this and other greats every night after work. Thank you so much for one of the greastest songs ever.
Is possible for one man to love one woman for the whole of his life and be a better man for it? Is possible to make love last, to endure all, to last as long as the ideal conveyed in this timeless song? Anybody, anybody, say it is so.
Always liked this song but haven't heard it in a while. Was watching the movie Crank and toward the end of the movie, the main character was falling from a helicopter and basically to his death, when this song was played. I almost came out of my chair...the most perfectly haunting song for the perfect occasion. There was NO better song to play while this guy was falling. Cool to see on youtube and thanks for the lyrics. Appreciate your time and efforts.
This is truly the most poetic off all the groups songs-I was 9 when this came out. When you can capture the attention of a 9 yr old and send her mind reeling in childlike romance-you have truly done something "miraculous".
they don't make songs or groups like this anymore..loved JANE when i was younger and heard this recently on a re run episode of JOURNEYMAN and fell in love with this song...i can't stop playing it
I have always loved this song since the first time I heard it... touching and haunting at the same time, flowing and tight at the same time, and this is the extended version--- I'm loving every second of it!!
This is truly one of the most beautiful love songs ever. The lyrics bring back memories for me that will last a lifetime and beyond.........Eternal Love XX
Brings back memories. I remember recording from my record player to a cassette tape, no one home so there wouldn't be any extra sounds coming through. Hi tech all the way.
One of the nicest sweetest songs back in the day. I was like 11,12 years old when this came out, but I remember WABC in NYC would wear this darn song out day in and out. And now I have it on my Ipod.
Beautiful Song, my freshman yr "75" uwisc-river falls,,,,,, brings back alot of GOOD memories, awesome songs ,,,,,,,then, and eighties, and now,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ahhh 1975, lol
A great song and beautiful montage! I've always enjoyed this record by Jefferson Starship and am grateful you posted it here in the full-version.Kudos!Thank you!
The greatest love song EVER! Marty Balin has never sounded better and Mickey Thomas can't compare! Thanks so much for the post and Pete....Thanks to you for the great work!!!!
After hearing this song I had to find the lyrics for it cause I wanted to make sure i was hearing them correctly. So after i found them, it made this song even MORE incredible. What a remarkable love song this is! WOW Parts gave me chills! THIS is want i want for my soul mate! Thanks for such a beautiful moving song!!!
Red Octopus! One of the first 8 tracks I ever owned. This song is going on an ipod I'm filling up for when I go into the old folk's home! (Now where did I put those liesure suits?)
it still seems to break a taboo today, through the erotic vulnerability and joy of the male voice, and his statement, "I had a taste of the real world/when I went down on you". Lyrics today may be more graphic, but they are seldom link sexual/emotional/spiritual stuff like this love song does. That's why this one moves me. The erotic love is also a spiritual bursting-into-flower, truly passionate.
I got to see them do this right after it first came out.One of the best concerts I've ever been to in my life.I will always love their music.Mircles do happen !

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area
back in the 60's. in the East Bay and we
had a great music scene. But I was only a youngster during that time and all they
played on the radio was The local cool
bay area bands of the time. Grateful Dead
Jefferson Airplane, Moby Grape, Sly & the
Family Stone. But when this song came
out ////// This was my generation and in my
personal opinion this song is one of the greatest songs ever recorded period.

It's so sensual, it nice that it insinuates instead of coming right out and being so crude like the songs now days.

it still seems to break a taboo today, through the erotic vulnerability and joy of the male voice, and his statement, "I had a taste of the real world/when I went down on you". Lyrics today may be more graphic, but they are seldom link sexual/emotional/spiritual stuff like this love song does. That's why this one moves me. The erotic love is also a spiritual bursting-into-flower, truly passionate.
msmirkat 2 years ago 9
Amazing lyrics...you can feel his intense passion for her...nobody writes them like this anymore.
