Jeff is totally playing a Jazz Bass. You can get any sound you want out of them if you've got the right rig. My Jazz through my Mesa 2x15 sounds like a monster.
All I can say is wow!!! Cool find! You can tell neither of them are comfortable with the camera on them. Jay seams to loosen up a bit more during Factory Belt.
This is such a classic piece of video - you can hear what this was bound to sound like when it hit the recording studio. Thanks so much for posting this.
Wow not only did i look alot like Jeff, I was playing Bass back then as a 14 yr old, but it was a big heavy cheap piece of crap from 'Griffin'. I still loved it though ;o)
I'm the biggest Tweedy fan in the world, and this video is AMAZING. For so many reasons. On top of the obvious, Jeff is playing the same bass that I play with now, a Fender Delux Jazz bass in the same damn color. Unbelievable.
being an honest engine, i'll say this much: i love a few wilco records, respect jeff tweedy as a vocalist and songwriter... but this is the first time to hear uncle tupelo.
omg, if you like wilco and havent heard uncle tupelo yet, are you in for a treat!!;
uncle, to me, was a real super group and were so influential in their own genre, basically spawning the whole "no depression" movement; every song, every album is classic;
Cowbell! Love Hiedorn's style- always so original. This is amazing stuff. They were all about 18. Amazing how Jay's voice is the exact same then as it is now.
Awesome. Thanks for uploading this stuff.

You only get to see it for a second, so allow me to keep the delusion that it's a jazz bass. I'm happier that way.

No way Jazz Bass is going to have that kind of growl :).
