I am interested in buying this bike but there are two versions of it, one that you currently own and one that has gears, a lithium ion battery and is lighter...but about 3x the price! My question is does your model only one gear and if so does that even matter? I currently own the eZip Trailz (it's very heavy and doesn't fold its about 70lbs!) and I love it, it has gears but I always have it maxed out at 7 anyway which seems to be the hardest gear. How hard is it to pedal without the PAS?
@2006mobrown No gears but you can control your speed up and down with the hand throttle like a motorcycle. My biggest complaint on this bike is the top speed being around 20 mph. I would like one that goes a bit faster like say 30 to 35 and still have the same body style. Peddling is very easy but being in such a low gear you won't go very fast. The single gear its in reminds me of 1st gear on a ten speed bicycle.
Update: It has been a few years since I took this video. I still have the bike, the battery is still holding a great charge and runs like the day I bought it. The only thing that I have had to do is add air to the tires once in a while. My only complaint is the weight which is about 50 lbs. Lifting it in and out of our SUV is a hassle but not so bad that I would ever get rid of it.
Great bike! Do you know how easy it would be to find a replacement battery if yours fails? I imagine that there are a limited number of charges before replacement became necessary. And do you know what the cost of a replacement would be? These are things I want to know before I buy one.
Damn, those folded dimensions you give (24" x 34" x 34") would make the bike oversized on airline checked luggage ... looks like a $175(!) extra fee on Delta at least. I wish there was a cheap electric assist bike I could take with me on trips....
lol, well to be honest I was using one when I made this video but I am just not that great at making videos. I had the whole contraption in the air while I was walking around the bike and then set the tripod when I was about to ride up the hill and back. If I had had an 8 year old with me I am sure they could have done it perfect. I just kills me how good the kids today are at doing this stuff.
Also would it be possible if you could let me know what the dimensions are after the bike is folded up? I cant seem to find that info out anywhere, Id like to buy one and a carry bag for it but I need to know the dimensions when folded , ty
24 inches wide 34 inches tall and 34 inches long. I may not be the best folder in the world but those are the measurement I just took with it comnpletely folded.
as long as it is just a light rain, no problem but not really advisable. There would be puddles of water that could be a problem if you hit them. You can minimize the risk of electrical problems by weatherizing your ebike. There is a video on youtube, just search for "Electric Bikes and Wet Weather" and it should be the first video that pops up.
no probem, I wish there had been more postings like this one when I was looking at buying one myself which is why I did it. Sure wasn't for my filming skills, lol.
30 mph is downhill really, I don't have a speed meter so I am not sure exactly how fast it's going but I can tell it's going at least 30mph or better. On level ground I doubt yours going to get better than 20mph out of it but that is plenty fast if your in no hurry.
There is a good video here on youtube about making your bike more weather resistant. I tried to post a link to it but for some reason it won't let me so just search for "Electric Bikes and Wet Weather" and it should be the first video that pops up.
You would be better off not going into puddles with it as it could get into the motor and connections and yeah you could ride in a very light rain with no problem, I have a couple of times.
I'm not a young man and look funny as hell riding the thing but I'm saving lots of money on gas and laughing all the way to the bank :)
I live about 5 miles from work so 10 miles round trip. It is really smooth and fun to ride. I estimate I will have saved enough on gas to pay for the bike in less than 10 months. I paid 640.00 for this one through walmart.
I should add that I am using the bike to do other things, like run to the grocery store for odds and ends, have a basket I am using for that. I also like to bike to the post office which I do frequently.
I just bought it now. I'm considering posting a video review after I've tried it and seen if it work for my situation. I've got 9 miles to work so 18 miles round trip.
Nice video, how far do you bike to work? I think it's great that more people are looking into ebikes as a means of commuting. It's great seeing more ebike videos week after week and hopefully soon the battery technology will allow a lightweight bike and longer range with better hill climbing ability. Then I think more people will consider biking to work.
very nice. Electric bikes are so cool. Thanks for sharing.

Great video!(for someone who doesn't have a helper) :)
I have this exact same model but I haven't ridden it yet.
I have a couple of questions for you. Would it be possible to ride this in the rain or on puddles. Would the battery/motor short circuit?

do you have to be a certain age to ride it, or is it just considered a normal bike with motor assistance?
trismealey 3 years ago
nope, no certain age. It's considered a regular bike under federal law.
