@kaylarosin Im 14 and getting my tonsils out in a few hours. I will tell you if it hurts a lot with big tonsils because mine are huge aswell lol. If you still need an answer
I'm not sure about the pain for a teen. N E type of surgery u have isn't going to b painless as far as recovering. The pain level I'm nt sure. I'm 26 with a very high pain tolerance n it was horrible 4 me
@stevenbreig69 It does hurt, but just stick with it. Over time you will be feeling just fine and in the long run be happy that you had them taken out. Most likely if your doctor is telling you that you need them out then they are doing you more harm then good. So just remind yourself after every day that you are one more day closer to being normal again.
Oh and drink a lot of water. Wen ur throat starts to scab ur throat gets really dry so drink water. I was hospitalized BC I was dehydrated anything I drank came out my nose. I tried forcing it but it was a no. So all n all makes sure u take ur meds every 4 hours and drink lots of h2o.
I had my tonsillectomy dne on Sept 27 n I can say that it wasn't fun at all. The day of surgery I cudnt talk at all n I Jus slept most of the day the 2nd day was ok but days 3 thru 8 were horrible. My ears hurt worse than my throat. The only thing that really helped was a heating pad. Everything I ate or drank had to be room temperature. Id recommend the pill form for meds I took my pill with applesauce. I lost 25 lbs. The scabs r pretty disgusting also so I spit a lot.
Just got mine out 6 hours ago. When I woke up it didnt feel so bad. Now it hurts pretty much but its still bearable. Im eating some popsicles and ice cream. And gonna get more pain meds in a few hours

I used to always have swollen tonsils and would always randomly wake up with sore throats. It has been a million times better since they are gone!! Just ask for the pill version of the pain meds! I got sick of the taste of that stuff and couldn't handle it!!

Okay well I got in a bad dirt bike reck when I was like 11 and I broke my wrist in 2 places and had a very bad concussion. I had to have surgery and before my surgery I had to have a shot in my neck. The needle hit a vain and I almost bled to death. Just thought i'd tell you because this doesnt seem very bad compared to that.

@horselovecomp hey i had it done and im 13 i had it done when i was 12 too! it doesnt hurt the IV does for about 5 mins then it goes away! after the surgery you will be in pain but its not anything to get upset over! it will all be fine!

totallllly agree with you about the liquid pain meds. the smell of it was making me sick after awhile. i just got mine out on feb 2nd...took me a week and a half until i could eat anything. on week three and i have a lil pain here and there and talking kinda funny. sucks! i just hope the pain was worth it.

Since the surgery I can breathe so much better. I don't have bad breath at all which is quite nice!! And I am healing up quite well. 3 weeks today!!
At first they put me on hydro condone (liquid) and I couldn't handle it. Then they tried tylenol 3 (liquid).. I ended up getting put on pain pills!! I would vote for the pills 10 fold. I just can't stand taking that nasty tasting stuff every couple of hours.. After a week of taking it like that I just couldn't do it anymore!!
