Simple enough. I discovered them through the internet but I wish I had been to a performance. I was too young to understand back then. Other noize you might suggest, even though all you need is Negativland.
Personally, this video wasn't funny for me. Not for its exploitation of religion and its glorification of communism, but because it shows a person getting mangled and tortured. Albeit my personal beliefs, i already knew from the first 30 seconds that this was supposed to provoke people. With that, it seems that spouting anything about religion would entail controversy.
The song, as well as the video, are not about controversy, but irony. The repeated lines in the song are of a preacher during the cold war preaching against the USSR. The video is about the irony of the supposed peaceful religion and their love of blood and gore as well as demonstrating the same hive mentality of the extreme nationalists.
I've always thought it had a great beat; and that the message of the song (if there is one) is that things can be taken out of context in very unusual and amusing ways.
Marx was right about religion, but wrong about damn near everything else. Did the Historical Dialective predict the fall of the Soviet Union??? Personally, this video wasn't funny for me. Not for its exploitation of religion and its glorification of communism, but because it shows a person getting mangled and tortured. Albeit my personal beliefs, i already knew from the first 30 seconds that this was supposed to provoke people. With that, it seems that spouting anything about religion would entail controversy.

The song, as well as the video, are not about controversy, but irony. The repeated lines in the song are of a preacher during the cold war preaching against the USSR. The video is about the irony of the supposed peaceful religion and their love of blood and gore as well as demonstrating the same hive mentality of the extreme nationalists.

This video is less about religion and politics, and more about what can be done with words and pictures when they are taken out of context. Most non-christians in America actually know more about the bible and christianity than the actual "christians" in the country. I happen to work at a religious bookstore and see more obscure books on christianity, the essenes, and gnostics in one day than you have probably seen in your friggin life. And what could there possibly be to know that isn't based on what I have seen or read? Oh yeah, things I have heard, felt, tasted and smelled.
