Horace Parlan has been one of my favorite pianists since I first heard him with George Tucker or Sam Jones and Al Harewood back in 1960. There was not a better rhythm section anywhere back then. He has an immediately recognizable style and such a beautiful bluesy swinging feel.
This is a great video and further reason why I love him so much!
ii first heard horace parlan on roland kirk's "i talk with the spirits'. his warmth was amazing. then i heard him on 2 duets w/shepp "goin' home' and 'trouble in mind'. wonderful records! i also have a solo album he did. thanks so much for making this film. he is a precious gift to the music. no one plays as warmly as he does. i saw him in duet w/shepp and was amazed to see his right hand. his story from childhood is remarkable. i hope he knows how many he's inspired G-d bless you HP!
Horace Parlan is an absolute inspiration to everyone who cares about creative music......stricken with polio at a very young age, he didn't despair, but adapted his playing to create his own uniquely identifiable sound. Great man.
Wonderful clip! Horace´s music speaks directly to my heart and soul as do his words. And who is this young bass player? He sounds very good and in tune.
Boy, oh Boy ! the really sad part is that guy's like Horace Parlan are so outnumbered by those men in politics & and business conglomerates, and power-tripping, so-called world leaders. that we can only be thankful that men like Horace come along in our lifetime to help keep us sane.
This kind of beauty is priceless - the bottom line is Love & Peace, not a million bucks in the bank. Thank You Mr. Parlan for helping to keep me grounded in the stuff that counts.
