An interest in Japanese culture does not mean an interest in other Asian cultures. I don't know what Asian background you have (your accent tells me Southern Chinese or Vietnamese) but I'm betting none of these people view your specific background any differently.

Very interesting to hear what a race besides black and white think about. I'm so used to black and white problems that I never really thought that asians face racial problems. It seems like to me asians go about life without any racism in their lives. White people seems to adopt them into their circles more than any other race. I'm American, not Asian, though, but I do find "otakus" annoying since they make those who actually are interested in Asian culture (not the anime, manga, vg stuff) look bad.
