I dont understand? Leg kicks dont score points in MMA. They are meant to slow down your opponent, weaken takedown D-fence, etc... And even after all Shogun's leg kicks he still couldnt take Machida down or even rock him. Lyoto had Shogun on the run twice in that fight, never was Lyoto in danger but Shogun was. Got nothing to do with what I think who should won. First 3 rounds were close but that should have been for Machida. Petty kicks should not score a lot of points. It is easier to kick from distance than a punches to the head. He blocked most kicks, lets shogun hit him just o be able to attack. His counters is very impressive, something I rarely see from UFC fighters. The judges take this into account and I do believe Machida is going to beat shogun well this time on the next rematch
Those 'petty kicks' you refer to, would have forced the average person to verbally submit. Machida would not have been able to continue had the fight gone on to a sixth round.
Machida is supposed to be a counter fighter that was why Shogun can came forward but I wouldnt say he was aggressive enough. Shogun landed pure leg kicks, only one or two dirty punches while clinched which caused slight cuts to Machida. Machida had more punches to the head of shogun. 3 judges cant be wrong and they dont work for Dana. Like I said the fight was close but first 3 rounds were for Lyoto. I've watched the fight 3x, I have to say that yes, the 2nd and 3rd time I watched it, I could see how Machida COULD have been given 3 rounds. Do I think he SHOULD have been given 3 rounds, absolutely not. I gave it 4 rounds to shogun. I know my MMA too, I was one of these guys that was saying, if there is someone in the LHW devision that could take out Machida, it would be a healthy shogun... poor decision by the refs.

I read a posting earlier this week, forgot where exactly it was. It had said that Machida had a broken hand by punching Shogun in the head and was using it as a cover up in place of a broken rib. I personally think that a broken hand is a good enough reason to not fight, but why would he hide a broken rib? Based on the way he was walking out of the octagon, I would have thought he had a broken leg or legs.

what upper hand? shogun is a jujitsu guy. he is a grappler and uses takedown abilities and grounds pounds. he knew he would have trouble sparring with machida because hes very elusive. so he tried to get him to the ground but failed.machida also landed more punches to the face than shogun. punches score higher than kicks according to the judges. they also score defensive tactics which machida definitly was superior. both men never took the other down and were left standing. this is a draw.
many of you guys don't understand how a fight is scored. Having a cut or a bruise does not count in scoring. the main criteria is clean strikes to the head and front of torso as well as the upper legs. Yes rua kicked machida several times but nearly everytime machida blocked with a thai shield (raised knee) when a fighter does this it is not scored a strike and has no affect on the judges decision. If rua wanted to win the fight he should capitalized on under hooks or worked on the ground

Lyoto won because he landed the most significant moments of Rounds 1-4. The cumulative damage done to Machida was obviously greater, but when Shogun landed kicks he didn't follow them up. When you factor in Machida's excellent takedown defense, it becomes easier to see how the judge's scored this one in Lyoto's favor. Machida was never in any danger of being taken down as he shrugged off every one of Shogun's takedown attempts.

Actually, no. I've already done this. Almost all of machida's shots were blocked by shogun's arms. They weren't clean hits by any means. Shogun always kicked while guarding his head. All machida did in the fight was head hunt and it should have cost him. Shogun always did more in the clench and was the only one who pushed the pace or was the aggressor in the fight. Cecile Peoples is one of the worst judges in the UFC right now. Hes the one from bisping and hamil. Did I mention hes a karate guy?

I dont understand? Leg kicks dont score points in MMA. They are meant to slow down your opponent, weaken takedown D-fence, etc... And even after all Shogun's leg kicks he still couldnt take Machida down or even rock him. Lyoto had Shogun on the run twice in that fight, never was Lyoto in danger but Shogun was. I can't believe there are people still clinging to the fantasy that Machida truly defended the title. Machida's whole thirty seconds of aggression in twenty-five minutes of fighting do not come close to accounting for the overwhelming gap in strikes landed.
Shogun landed double the strikes, with a higher percentage landed, and was the aggressor virtually the entire fight. In any fight that hasn't been rigged, Shogun wins the decision.

Having watch this fight over and over again, it was correct that Machida won. The least would have been a draw but the champion deserves the upper hand. Its unbelievable how Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg were hugging shogun nuts, made the fight sounds more in favour of shogun and winning. Got nothing to do with what I think who should won. First 3 rounds were close but that should have been for Machida. Petty kicks should not score a lot of points. It is easier to kick from distance than a punches to the head. He blocked most kicks, lets shogun hit him just o be able to attack. His counters is very impressive, something I rarely see from UFC fighters. The judges take this into account and I do believe Machida is going to beat shogun well this time on the next rematch

Machida is supposed to be a counter fighter that was why Shogun can came forward but I wouldnt say he was aggressive enough. Shogun landed pure leg kicks, only one or two dirty punches while clinched which caused slight cuts to Machida. Machida had more punches to the head of shogun. 3 judges cant be wrong and they dont work for Dana. Like I said the fight was close but first 3 rounds were for Lyoto. I only start watching Machida last few fights and compare the two in the last few fights, that was a lucky performance for shogun. Shogun was never convinced enough to win that fight. I've watched the fight 3x, I have to say that yes, the 2nd and 3rd time I watched it, I could see how Machida COULD have been given 3 rounds. Do I think he SHOULD have been given 3 rounds, absolutely not. I gave it 4 rounds to shogun. I know my MMA too, I was one of these guys that was saying, if there is someone in the LHW devision that could take out Machida, it would be a healthy shogun... poor decision by the refs.

Funny how everyone says that Machida stopped "every" takedown attempt :) As i recall he got taken down in the first down, regardless if Machida got up in a split second! A takedown is a takedown! Plus Shogun outscored him in headshots & leg kicks! The body shots were a little even (Machida could be slightly higher)! Like I said in an earlier post he took Machida down and yes it was a full takedown(whatever the fuck that is). Machida was on his ass against the octagon and that is what saved him from being put on his back. Yes he got up but he was still taken down. I read a posting earlier this week, forgot where exactly it was. It had said that Machida had a broken hand by punching Shogun in the head and was using it as a cover up in place of a broken rib. I personally think that a broken hand is a good enough reason to not fight, but why would he hide a broken rib? Based on the way he was walking out of the octagon, I would have thought he had a broken leg or legs.

I'm so sick of reading all this bullshit about shogun should have won.. YES, when i watched the fight for the first time I thought shogun won, but re-watch the fight and analyze it and you'll see machida clearly won. he stuffed every takedown attempt, countered every strike, had a quick combo flurry against the cage, i mean idk what else. i mean, it was a close fight and should have been a split decision, but honestly machida won that fight no doubt, just re-watch it people.

what upper hand? shogun is a jujitsu guy. he is a grappler and uses takedown abilities and grounds pounds. he knew he would have trouble sparring with machida because hes very elusive. so he tried to get him to the ground but failed.machida also landed more punches to the face than shogun. punches score higher than kicks according to the judges. they also score defensive tactics which machida definitly was superior. both men never took the other down and were left standing. this is a draw.

many of you guys don't understand how a fight is scored. Having a cut or a bruise does not count in scoring. the main criteria is clean strikes to the head and front of torso as well as the upper legs. Yes rua kicked machida several times but nearly everytime machida blocked with a thai shield (raised knee) when a fighter does this it is not scored a strike and has no affect on the judges decision. If rua wanted to win the fight he should capitalized on under hooks or worked on the ground

he had one cut on his upper lip dude, don't be a moron. machida's legs were the only things that were in major trouble, i mean the judges don't score leg kicks. like i said, if it was scored by most strikes, then you'd see people just throwing kicks and punches left and right trying to score, but it doesn't work that way. For 1 forget about Machida's counters, hes not know for his KO's, On top of that Shogun LANDED 2x more blows! Shogun could have broken Machidas ribs with one of those leg kicks. And YES Lyoto stuffed Shogun, but atleast Rua was being aggressive and not running.. Shogun won that fight, 4 outta 5 rounds.

Lyoto won because he landed the most significant moments of Rounds 1-4. The cumulative damage done to Machida was obviously greater, but when Shogun landed kicks he didn't follow them up. When you factor in Machida's excellent takedown defense, it becomes easier to see how the judge's scored this one in Lyoto's favor. Machida was never in any danger of being taken down as he shrugged off every one of Shogun's takedown attempts.

shogun kicks mostly and yes lets say he did land more strikes Machida's were more accurate and did more damage he never was staggered from Shogun's strikes and thats exactly what Shogun was trying to do weaken Machida but even in the 5th round Machida could throw kicks just as good and kneed shogun hard in the body and the face, Machida tried to finish the fight many times and nearly did, Shogun was never close to finishing Machida. This has to be one of the most ignorant things i've read in a while. Some of cro cop's BEST wins were by leg and body kicks. Bas Rutten made liver and leg shots famous in pancreas. Do you even know who Ernesto Hoost is? ffs it's what won forrest griffen the LHW title! When you're fighting a runner(Yes Machida is a RUNNER not "elusive." Anderson Silva is elusive.) You take out their legs and slow them down. Hell it obviously worked. Some of his best punches came then. This call was a disgrace.

im a big fan of both fighters. i saw watch 3x and judges were right on the decision. if you guys watch it again without the sound on since joe rogan always hypes shogun whenever he kicks, youll see that on every rounds machida controlled the fight and did more accurate hits.

Actually, no. I've already done this. Almost all of machida's shots were blocked by shogun's arms. They weren't clean hits by any means. Shogun always kicked while guarding his head. All machida did in the fight was head hunt and it should have cost him. Shogun always did more in the clench and was the only one who pushed the pace or was the aggressor in the fight. Cecile Peoples is one of the worst judges in the UFC right now. Hes the one from bisping and hamil. Did I mention hes a karate guy?

Don't get mad at the UFC. They have no say in who referees or even who the judges are. If they did, Cecil Peoples would be long gone as a judge. He's famous for making terrible ref calls as well as decisions. He's the shitty judge from Hamil and Bisping . He also went on the record saying that machida was more aggressive than shogun and that shogun's leg kicks were in effective and there for not relevant. He's a biased karate practitioner/nut hugger

Machida won more rounds He definitely won the 1st and 2nd rounds he landed cleaner shots and avoided takedowns and hit Shogun more in the head
Shogun won the 3rd but Lyoto outscored him in the 4th just near the end and the 5th round Shogun was beating Lyoto's CONDITIONING and was landing those hard leg kicks so it looked like he won at the end of the 5th but Lyoto had already won
