Liberal MP Belinda Stronach, battling breast cancer, travelled to California for an operation that was recommended as part of her treatment, says a report.
Stronach's spokesman, Greg MacEachern, told the Toronto Star that the MP for Newmarket-Aurora had a "later-stage" operation in the U.S. after a Toronto doctor referred her.
Today, over five million Canadians are without a family doctor. A 2005 survey found that just 23 per cent of Canadians were able to see a physician the same day they needed one—placing this country last among the six studied, including the U.S., Britain and Australia. Canadas doctor-patient ratio is among the worst of any industrialized nation: with just 2.2 physicians per thousand people, it ranks 24th out of 28 OECD countries. Among G8 countries, Canada ranks dead last in physician supply.
And speaking of Michael Moore, you SHOULD watch his film, Sicko, just so you can understand if nothing else how obscenely myopic in scope and arrogant the above narrative is.
I was shocked to see a veteran among the people protesting "socialized healthcare." What do you think VA benefits are?!! Republicans should secede, move to Texas. I'm glad I won my appeal because the tumor was precancerous. But if I did not have the wherewithall & was able to think critically, I dread what would have been the ultimate outcome. This video is disgusting, perfectly vile. Shame on these apathetic, self-satisfied, smug banal REPUGlicans.
That's because this video is propaganda. (1) I live in America, & the health insurance co. denied critical surgery. That's one. (2) As a Type 1 Diabetic, I had to wait ONE YEAR before this illness was covered because it was a "pre-diagnosed illness" & I had to pay out of pocket for one-year. I'm glad I didn't get the tumor that required major surgery during that 1-year period because it was on my pancreas, so that would probably have been tied in & not treated. So fuck this video.
Yes, indeed. Now if they'd just find a Rabid-Republican shot for the smug, self-centered sore losers foaming at the mouth while objecting to health care for those who aren't covered &/or denied covereage in our country. If they are so horrified at paying taxes, then they should stop using the post office, fire dept., police dept, keep off the sidewalks bridges, parks & roadways; and just amble back under the turd-encrusted rock (turdblossom!) they 've crawled out from under.
In 2006, per-capita spending for health care in the U.S. was US$6,714; in Canada, US$3,678.[5] The U.S. spent 15.3% of GDP on health care in that year; Canada spent 10.0%.[5] In 2006, 70% of health care spending in Canada was financed by government, versus 46% in the United States. Total government spending per capita in the U.S. on health care was 23% higher than Canadian government spending,
I'm sorry if that was offensive. I'm just tired of all the negative attacks, minus any helpful ideas. YOU IDIOTS do something. Ok what would you suggest we do? I mean we vote, but when elections are held our choices are usually A. Satan, or B. Satan's Cronie. (not literally ofcourse but damn close) So truly, any helpful ideas please. Oh, and I'm hardly a fat ass. If we didn't have free speech, would we have radio like this? Would we be able to post whatever we want to on youtube? Hardly.
Mr. Bazzie: exactly how many other countries have you been to? We are actually quite aware of our corrupt politicians, and those of us that have more than a double digit IQ are trying to do something about it. There are corrupt politicians in every country. Show me something better. What exactly do you prospose we do about our current situation. You spout off "Stupid americans" like there is something we can do about it. Pray tell, please share your idea for a cure, or shut the fuck up.
My coworker's Uncle had a heart attack a few weeks ago. He went to the hospital & was told he needed open heart surgery - a coronary artery bypass graft. At least one of his coronary arteries was 95% blocked. Our current US socialized health care systems, Medicare/Medicaid, denied him the treatment he NEEDED. The bill is currently being paid by his extended family. Gov't rationed health care is already practiced in the US. To relinquish total control to our gov't would clearly be unwise.
1. Both the Canadian (socialized) and American (partially socialized, aka "corporate welfare") systems ration healthcare. The difference is that the socialized model rations care according to need, while the corporate welfare model rations according to wealth while ignoring need. Healthcare is the only sector where I support the socialized mode.
2. Stop quoting bullshit statistics, and read a REAL comparative study:
My Canadian Cousins thought their health care system was fine til the effects of it showed up in my cousins daughter. 14 yrs of Meds not properly managed (shouldve had liver function tests; enzymes etc every 3 months) resulted in liver cancer. Only found it because shes near death vomiting Blood & in horrible pain. Too late hospital says. Were only checking liver enzymes 1 X per year!! Extreme Suffering! She trusted them. Uncaring System no help when in Emergcy Dept waitng, Vomitting 5.5 hrs
These guys are full of crap we are not taught in school that our systems are the "best in the world". Further more the argument that we have nothing to compare our system against is faulty we just need to look next door. Prescriptions for drugs are not free "addicted to free" drugs. Their arguments are full of lies.
There's no reason to believe UHC has anything to do with expanding lifespan. All UHC does is provide free insurance and coverage. It DOES NOT in and of itself make treatment any better. That's the result of innovation and companies making good products and trained doctors and experts performing on you.
U.S. Mortality higher; more cars, more drivers=many more car accidents NUMBER 1 KILLER! U.S: great immediate emergency care to ANYONE! Unpaid med bills little effect on ones credit, meds free to needy, Doctors paid better if Excel. Unhappy? Patient can go different doctor OR competing hospital; all providers COMPETE to please patients. If Poor care-patients sue. NOT Socialized Health Care-ITS MONOPOLY. Patients NO CHOICE! CANT SUE, cant go elsewhere! Want other opinion? YOU CANT GET IT!
Exactly. Government-run healthcare is a sham. MAYBE a more hybrid system in the US will fix some of the problems with our current market system. But certainly no nationalized system will do. Hell, Wal-Mart and other companies now provide a large list of prescriptions for $4-10! That's something we could never do with gov't intervention, not unless we enacted strict price controls, which would just make things worse.
I can walk into any clinic or hospital in the country and get care for free!! Wow what a terrible system. I can pick any doctor I want so yes I have choice! Yes, we can sue! I can get 30 other opinions all for free from 30 different doctors! Call it socialism if you like, I live in the most "socialistic" province, Saskatchewan, and guess what while the rest of the North America is experiencing a severe economic down turn we are rolling in economic surpluses!!
My cousins are Canadian citizens; 1 cousin wait 13 mos. for an operating rm for bypass surgery. She had be very inactive while waiting. Other cousin, 16, w abnormal heart rhythm, Canada health cares been shocking her with paddles instead of giving implant thatd cure it (that requires surgery). Last year moved to oil-rich province for shorter waiting list. Shell get in to a Cardiologist this month (after a 7 month wait on this province list). Only 1 Cardiologist entire province.
only 1 cardiologist in the entire province u are so fukin stupid i can google cardi. in alberta canada and find more than 1 in 7 seconds y dont u stop talking since u entirely full of shit and know nothing and i found 23 cardiologists in one of the 2 biggest cities in alberta
There are always negative examples to government systems... its the extent and amount of negative examples, per capita, that really show whether one system is better then the other. You also have to look at who benefits from the systems. For middle to upper class citizens... Yeah, the American health system works much better... You pay for the service and you get it right away. For Canadians; it doesn't matter who you are, the health Care system cannot discriminate race, age or class. etc etc.
You have to look at what is included in the health package as well. the Canadian Health Care system also sets aside funding for PREVENTATIVE health care which is included in our childrens schools, day cares etc. Its not all about the examples you find... its about the system as a whole. Its hard to look past the emotion of personal examples and look at the system as a sociological advantage/disadvantage as a whole.
a lot of the supposed best technology. Many Americans are actually receiving poor health care more often then thought. Just because there's a lot of technology in a place does not necessariy mean that the quality of life is better than maybe a place w/far less technology. We are a society who have place so much dependency on technology for our very lives w/out realizing that our lifespan in general is not as long as many are lead to believe. The majority of the high tech is just hype.
That's laughable. General lifespan has very little to do with healthcare systems or technology. It's mostly nutrition. We don't eat nearly as healthily we used to. Many other countries' people live longer primarily because they don't eat as much or high-fat or high-calorie foods as we do. But we by far have the best treatment system, esp. emergency treatment. We have the greatest variety of drugs on the market, prescription and OTC. Foreigners stay out of the hospital by eating well.
I personally believe that the American health care system may seem to be amongst the best in the world, but if only if one have the financial means to receive the best needed care. I feel that many people are mostly hyped up about the idea that America's health care system is the best but fail to realize one must have good insurance, medical, & a lot of money which most Americans don't have access to. Let alone of all the multiple health problems many still suffer even though our country have---
According to the World Health Organization, the United States spends more money per person on healthcare than any country in the world. However, countries with universal healthcare systems (including Canada, Britain, and France) have higher life expectancy and lower infant mortality rates, despite spending a smaller percentage of their income on healthcare.
It's a simple fact that in the United States, the life expectancy and infant mortality rates compare less favorably due to a much highter percentage of minorities who choose life styles considerably different than one would find in Canada, a country blessed with a much lower crime rate and a citizenry who are, for the most part, law abiding.
What theres they're no difference from the French and Canadian system. This is PRUE propaganda. Why does Canadians live longer than all countries, but Japan (also universal health care). UK gets 15000 diagnosed cancer patients that didn't get treatment for the year. WTF? The UK gets about 10000 people diagnosed with Cancer. If the US has Universal Health care they have to raise taxs. Canada is taxed at 30/GDP, UK 29/GDP, US30/GDP. YOU TELL ME IF US CAN'T GET HEALTH CARE WITHOUT RAISING TAXES.
I have never in my life had anything but excellent health care in Canada! I've never waited long for any tests or in emergency. I know no one who has not had excellent care also! Including my mother who was diagnosed with breast cancer, treated and given a complete clean bill of health, all within 2 months time! I am Canadian and proud to be Canadian! I'll pay my taxes and give thanks that I have never in my life ever paid more than $35 a month for excellent health care.....
plus a $6 dispenser fee for prescriptions whenever medicine was needed outside of a hospital-where it is all free! But not one red cent at all more, other then my taxes and have never been denied any treatment whatsoever! Oh wait... I have paid extra for two things which were considered cosmetic, and also Ive paid extra for white fillings for my teeth...but thats it! Our wages are pretty good here and taxes are not such a terrible burden to me! I have a disease and if anything,
@paulusmagirl You forgot to mention your income tax payments and excise tax payments for the health care such as paying for Subway sandwhiches for $20+
@erindrake2010 See in Canada we take care of each other. We're paying through our taxes for someone elses treatment to. Maybe you shouldn't always think of yourself.
What difference does it make if the US has more CT machines than other nations? What matters is how efficiently they are used.If they are not utilized efficiently and are idle the cost is passed onto the end user which limits one's access to the diagnostic scan. The US spends more per capita on healthcare than any other nation. Yet they still have 45-50 million uninsured. The guys on this program are throwing out useless statistics.Even John Stossel admits the US system is full of inefficiencies.
The statistics that they talk about has been proven over and over again. AN issue with socialized healthcare is that there are extensive waiting times in ALOT of the cases. Please don't say "this isnt true", because you mean "this isnt true for me", and that doesnt help anything.
I do wonder if there is a mix of private/socialized healthcare that will work (unlike the system we have that doesnt). This would mean that hospitals/govern. would have to think about efficiency rather than profit.
Per capita. That does have an influence on the number of CAT scanners they have in the country. We do have over 10X the number of people in the US than they do in canada. While that doesnt necessarily mean they have ENOUGH CAT scanners, it doesn't also prove that they have too few, and is really a bad statistic to use without qualifying the data.
These guys are libertarians which is another word for half retarded. They advocate free market, no government intervention, so they hate anything socialist. Their facts are bullshit, and they do little analysis into anything. By their logic, poor people shouldn't get health care because they can't afford, because the "free market" healthcare is to expensive.
@LeslieElite90 dude what are you talking about we have a priority based system we have a waiting list but if you're dieing know we bumb you up and if we can't we will ship you to another country the only failures in the system are people not the system itself and maybe America has a few more cat scanner's but we have smaller populations and it really doesn't matter if you can't use them and Btw under your amazing capitalist systems every man women and child owes 6000$ to china
poor people can get health care. in ANY emergency, a patient MUST to be treated weather tey can afford it or not, even though they have through a bunch of financial bullshit afterwords, wahts better, getting buged about paying, or dying
wow, talk about a "retarded" response. You obviously can't stand facts and like all bleeding heart liberal elitist, you have been brainwashed by the liberal teachers to believe this drivel and ignore teh collapse of so many socialist govts.
I bet you know how to say "you want fries with that" to go w/your bach degree in liberal arts.
@mashe13 You have no facts. You are mad because they are CORRECT. And you know nothing about health care. Canadian health care is a scam and these gentlemen expose the disgusting socialist health care that Obama has unconstitutionally forced unto the people.
Canadians spend 10 percent of annual GDP on health care, while Americans spend 16 percent. However, Canadians experience long waiting lists for diagnosis and treatment, rationed care, and limited access to doctors and new medical devices. You can get private medical care in Canada -- if you are a pet and your doctor is a vet.
@ARepublicanVictory I've always received quality care. So has my family and friends. I love the Canadian health care system. The US system of healthcare is so completely and irrecoverably corrupt it's disgusting. The fact that it's inferior, more costly and reserved for the rich is just ridiculous.
@deziistheone Your comments make me laugh. You should go into comedy because what you have just said is a complete and utter joke. I have seen on You Tube many Canadians saying how pathetic the Canadian health care system is. Maybe you are one of the "lucky" ones.
Your mythical belief about American healthcare is your own fault. That is what happens when you are given false info by Socialist-Leftist losers.
@ARepublicanVictory You saw a show on YouTube? Wow. That's impressive. And here I thought because I live in Canada I would know something about it.
And it's not my belief. Do some research yourself. The US healthcare system ranks quite low compared to most industrialized countries (all of which have universal systems).
Stay healthy brother. The US is no place to get sick.
@deziistheone There are many Canadians that expose the disgusting Canadian Healthcare system. You choose not to listen because you were one of the lucky ones. Why not be in their shoes. You would be doing the samething they are doing now.
I have been sick many times. Glad I saw a doctor within minutes. I think maybe it is you who will not be so lucky the next time you get sick. You will wait eight months to be seen. Canada is a hole just like Mexico.
@ARepublicanVictory You are blissfully ignorant my friend. But you go ahead and believe whatever makes you feel comfortable. Ive seen your comments on other videos and they are typical redneck, racist bravado. With your collapsing economy, shrinking freedoms and privacy and failing education system your view of the world outside is not surprising.
By the way, I'm curious, do you have health care coverage? And do you pay for it or is it covered by work?
@deziistheone Are skinheads rednecks? Were the German Nazis rednecks? Idiot, Whites live all around America. I know Canadians who hate Blacks and Jews. Are they rednecks?
You are a typical asshole who knows nothing about racism until some Black robs you. I do not care how you feel about my comments. Blacks can be racists and I bet you like when that happens. That has nothing to do with why Canada sucks along with their stupid healthcare. This vid explains it all here fool.
@deziistheone Its beneath 10.0 now. With that being said, America still, per capita, has the highest earners, more billionaires and millionaires than any other country. Second, college professors get higher pay than other coLlege professors worldwide.
College is a priveledge, not a right. There are scholarships and financial aid packages available.
@mashe13 That's just something lazy poor people say to get free stuff on the bills of hard workers who actually have to earn their healthcare benefits.
all the conversation preplanned before and both of them completely agree on them as scheduled but why you bother the tell us as a conversation format just read us what is written on your paper. EXCELLENT TORY PROPAGANDA!!
I wouldn't exchange my canadian healtcare with the private US ones, it is all about sucking money..
I dont know if they realized it, but they made some of the same arguments Moore made about our system, about the Canadian Health Care system. yea, like the American government doesn't have a say so in their Medical system. O, and denying 10% or more of insurance owners is not throwing lives away. If all costumers are getting free health care then a waiting list is going to follow, but "DENY" cant be the answer.
Yes, facts really piss off the libs. They don't understand why AIR AMERICA when off the air in spite of George Soros spending Millions trying to keep it afloat.
Why- because Air America was filled w/moronic, vitrolic, idiotic drivel while suscessful shows on Fox like O'reilley and conservative radio shows are booming.
well if you take fifty million people out of the que I would think you would have shorter ques .
my mother died last year of bowel and liver cancer she was nearly 80 and was told on her first diagnosis it was terminal but they still gave her a few operations just to prolong her life and she had no wait .
Im 43 and Ive never had to wait to see a doctor, this is in the uk
It seems that our system is in an oligopoly market. Few companies have high market shares and barriers of entry for other firms are high. Transition to go from an oligopoly back to imperfect market competition will require regulation by the government. This is not quiet achievable as the interest of lobbyist surmounts that of the tax payer. First.
This video exposes pathetic Canadian Public Health medicine at its finest. Canada is nothing more than a second tier nation.

Shame on these apathetic, self-satisfied, smug banal REPUGlicans.
jbugko 2 years ago
You would think that if the health care system is so bad in Canada the voters up there would have voted to get rid of it long ago.
(I think they do get to vote up there don't they?)
Instead of that, in a recent nation wide poll they voted Tommy Douglas, the man who led the fight for universal health care, their greatest Canadian.
Hmmm strange.
robbell 2 years ago

Their arguments are full of lies.

There's no reason to believe UHC has anything to do with expanding lifespan. All UHC does is provide free insurance and coverage. It DOES NOT in and of itself make treatment any better. That's the result of innovation and companies making good products and trained doctors and experts performing on you.

Kansasgrandmother 2 years ago 3
Exactly. Government-run healthcare is a sham. MAYBE a more hybrid system in the US will fix some of the problems with our current market system. But certainly no nationalized system will do. Hell, Wal-Mart and other companies now provide a large list of prescriptions for $4-10! That's something we could never do with gov't intervention, not unless we enacted strict price controls, which would just make things worse.

... while in the US you not only have to wait for health care, but also for the money to pay for it.
FibonacciPrower 2 years ago
There are always negative examples to government systems... its the extent and amount of negative examples, per capita, that really show whether one system is better then the other. You also have to look at who benefits from the systems. For middle to upper class citizens... Yeah, the American health system works much better... You pay for the service and you get it right away. For Canadians; it doesn't matter who you are, the health Care system cannot discriminate race, age or class. etc etc.
Mahrkuss 2 years ago
You have to look at what is included in the health package as well. the Canadian Health Care system also sets aside funding for PREVENTATIVE health care which is included in our childrens schools, day cares etc. Its not all about the examples you find... its about the system as a whole. Its hard to look past the emotion of personal examples and look at the system as a sociological advantage/disadvantage as a whole.
Mahrkuss 2 years ago

a lot of the supposed best technology. The majority of the high tech is just hype.
candlace 3 years ago
That's laughable. General lifespan has very little to do with healthcare systems or technology. It's mostly nutrition. We don't eat nearly as healthily we used to. Many other countries' people live longer primarily because they don't eat as much or high-fat or high-calorie foods as we do. But we by far have the best treatment system, esp. emergency treatment. We have the greatest variety of drugs on the market, prescription and OTC. Foreigners stay out of the hospital by eating well.
whoo689 2 years ago
I personally believe that the American health care system may seem to be amongst the best in the world, but if only if one have the financial means to receive the best needed care. I feel that many people are mostly hyped up about the idea that America's health care system is the best but fail to realize one must have good insurance, medical, & a lot of money which most Americans don't have access to. Let alone of all the multiple health problems many still suffer even though our country have---
candlace 3 years ago
According to the World Health Organization, the United States spends more money per person on healthcare than any country in the world. However, countries with universal healthcare systems (including Canada, Britain, and France) have higher life expectancy and lower infant mortality rates, despite spending a smaller percentage of their income on healthcare.
Dyne77 3 years ago
Try coming to France and seeing the level of healthcare you can get. The World Health Organization is feeding you propaganda.
EmilyGreene1984 3 years ago
It's a simple fact that in the United States, the life expectancy and infant mortality rates compare less favorably due to a much highter percentage of minorities who choose life styles considerably different than one would find in Canada, a country blessed with a much lower crime rate and a citizenry who are, for the most part, law abiding.

UK gets 15000 diagnosed cancer patients that didn't get treatment for the year. WTF? The UK gets about 10000 people diagnosed with Cancer. If the US has Universal Health care they have to raise taxs.

CWCandMRSAFETYRULES 3 years ago
The statistics that they talk about has been proven over and over again. AN issue with socialized healthcare is that there are extensive waiting times in ALOT of the cases. Please don't say "this isnt true", because you mean "this isnt true for me", and that doesnt help anything.
I do wonder if there is a mix of private/socialized healthcare that will work (unlike the system we have that doesnt). This would mean that hospitals/govern. would have to think about efficiency rather than profit.
vidfreak56 3 years ago

First.
