I have (and love) a Golf GTI, but I wouldn't piss on a burning Golf R if I had the chance of one of these. Proper, hardcore performance hatch which I thought manufacturers had forgotten how to build. Brilliant car. All the haters need to drive one. As for image, the RS Fords have pretty much all gone on to achieve near cult status, and have blue chip residual values. Try buying a half straight Cosworth for less than £10k.

Some comments. Ford and PSA has joined to develop diesel engines. US market and european market are going to share the next generation of the Focus. Not the ST, nor the RS are regular Focus models. They have modifications that alowed them to go faster and better than the regular 1.6. They have their specific public in the market as well as any of the different versions sold in the Focus line. And, yes, it´s a German car.

awd weighs considerably more and takes around 20bhp from the engine, and who knows why they kept it fwd but it works doesnt it, its about taking technology to new levels which ford have and im sure the likes of renault will follow not using existing awd systems and putting 400bhp out of it, that would be ridiculous tbh, 300bhp is plenty, and all that torque will dessimate most cars on the go,

Not quite. 30MPG if you thrash it round the twisties. Same fuel consumption as the ST otherwise really. Same engine, Vovlo T5, the only thing that has changed is the Turbo boost, so you'll get about 33/34mpg unless you wake the turbo up.

BMW M3 is a much better alternative. They're much better built, they have Rear wheel drive, they have a much higher overall quality , they're much more reliable and they are so much more better and fun to drive. The sound of the E46's in-line 6 cylinder engine is also pretty darn good :)

Yes, I do enjoy driving my Ford. I've had no problems so far with my 07 30k mile ST-3, and had no problems with my 1999 140k Focus ESP, or my 1998 80k Escort. On the other hand, my mates 2001 330Ci has had countless bushes replaced, calipers, electrics and engine sensors...all starting in the first week of life!

Unfortunately i have. And i'm not impressed. Alot of tyre noise enters the cabin, you cvan feel every single bump you hit on the road all the way through the seat, they rust after 1 year, and the interior quality is made of hard plastic. Now, have you ever driven a new BMW or Audi? I have and i can tell you the difference is enormous. The BMW is better in everything! Did you know that the focus is just a rebranded peugeot 307? They are basically the same cars with the same engines. It's Junk!

You simply have to pay for quality, ehich is German cars. BMW or Audi is the way to go. Ford have always made bad cars..

A Focus is a 307? LMFAO!! That ends any point you ever made, stone dead. Ford Focus is NOTHING to do with a 307. Ford and PSA co-developed the 1.4 and 1.6 diesel engines - that's it! The Focus shares nothing else mechanical, electrical or even a screw for that matter with any PSA car.

I have an 08 ST, it has 22k km, and so far so good, and trust me, the roads here in Mexico are bad, yet, no troubles with my car. Same with my old 01 SE Focus, nothing to complaint about.

I think its funny that you think BMW's have a better ride than a focus, when most BMW's are reknown for thier very firm ride, a problem which is made worse by run flat tyres they insist on using. I have a Fiesta ST and I can report that there is no rust issues what so ever with it after 3 years. I like BMW and quality in them is very good... but you pay throough the nose for them. I'd rather have a Ford, with above average interior quality and have the big wad of Cash I'd saved.

RS means Rally Sport. This is obviously a change to bring a little bit of that aggressive rally inspired styling from world rally championships ford focus team to the streets. Although the color isn't for my taste, I love the styling, and can say with confidence this will seriously boost up ford's reputation in the sport compact car community.

I'm talking about that an AWD system is better for the potential of the Focus RS, not that a RWD is better than FWD...

RWD and FWD have advantages and disadvantages. One is better for dairy use (and obviously in snow) and the other for sport use with good asphalt and highways.

I think that a FWD is good in the 70-80% of the situations (depending of the use). RWD take advantage in 40-60% of situations... But an AWD is better in 99% of situations.

Maybe my commentary has been misunderstanding or I forgot then write the rest. But its true that a sport car is better with RWD than FRW in 90% of the actually highways. I don't know where do you live but here snows very little in winter and at very high levels. Here, in E.U., the Mustang is not commercialized.

I took a chance and bought an SVT Focus a few years back. I loved it for about 3 months, then it started falling apart. I don't have enough space to list all the things that went wrong with that thing. I  live in the states so we don't have access to the great cars offered in Europe like the RS, but nevertheless I will never buy an American car again!
