You may have the strength but your nervoussystem doesn't yet know how to apply it in the specific motion of running.
So while resistance training is important from both a injury prevention and an performance improvement point of view it does not replace running itself in any way.
a lot of people believe having strong legs make you faster, but it really doesn't having flexible legs does the trick. try doing toe touches for about 5 - 10 minutes every night
@TheGameGuy4 for sprinters its a yes ....flexibility although important will not get you far enough...strength training is equally important to increase size of fast twitch muscles. even 400 m , 800m and 1500 m runners incorporate plenty of strength training in their workouts. Once you get into higher distances then the extra mass becomes a liability but strength training still doesn't hurt...you just reduce weights and increase repitition

Doesn't running also have to do with muscle twitch fibers, because I'm stronger than alot of people in lower body and yet they are faster than me.
