I feel like this cartoon was talking about reincarnation. It's interesting that Tutor always goes to Mr. Wizard to be something (incarnate) and then goes back, only to ask to come back again...(reincarnate)
I derived (not as a kid but later thinking back) a religious undertone. We are here but we forget how we came to be here, till in our death agony we cry out and are carried home to him whom we chose to leave.
I remember this cartoon very well-and also remember laughing more when I saw it years later in the summer of 1969-when America was almost to the point of actualy reaching the moon.
You realize we were shown this as kids and the main theme of the cartoon was that every dream you have will turn out to be a disaster. So don't dream? Still love seeing them again though. But wasn't there always a bit with Tooter and the Wizard after he came back for a final joke..?
There will be some Tooter Turtle episodes in the upcoming (March 6, 2012) complete set of Tennessee Tuxedo cartoons.

@SuperBrukie I can see that, but I think it is more like Time Travel.

Q: Who became famous for calling out, "Help Mr. Wizard!" In times of panic
A: Sarah Palin after 24 hours in the White House

I think the moral was "Be happy being who you are." That's what I got out of it as a kid.

I always thought of it as a warning not to pretend to be something you're not.

Thanks! No one at work seems to remember Tooter except me - and a 5:00 "Drizzle, drazzle..." was getting me strange looks!
