Hey, is this the same chord structure as With or Without You? and Don't Stop Believin'? and the first part of the progression on the verse of Let it Be? and I'm Yours? and You're Beautiful? and Forever Young? and Can You Feel the Love Tonight? and Amazing? and Under the Bridge? and Waltzing Matilda? and Barbie Girl? and Kids? and Torn? and Canvas Bags? and Birdplane? and Africa?
Dave I like how you are cool and clear,so eloquent and self-sure...thats good for us all who want to learn.I'm into Reggae but I like different technics as well. Thanks for you time and willingness. I like your specifying mode...?finger,?Fret,?String. God Bless.
in german we call this notes "vorschlag" witch means "vor" = before, infront of and "schlag" = hit (or in this context note). it gets the sense of what its vor quite well, right?
anticipation means something else, if we compare it to the psychological dimension, right?
anyway i love your lessons and i hope you will do a lot of more.
its a good lesson but he doesn't go into the choruses after the guitar solo where sting goes a bit mental with octaves and even more anticipation notes, he's only covered the easy bit really, maybe that was his intention tho i dunno???
Can I suggest, though, that the left hand positions be videographed from the PLAYER'S perspective, that is, above the fretboard, looking down at it? Never seen any bass lessons do this, but that's the way you see it as you play...
Oh btw thought i'd just say aswell, this is a great lesson and Thought you did a great job :) Nice simple yet great songs like this are why i just bought a bass to play alongside my guitars (or should that be butcher, every guitar player thinks themselves a bassist!)
ive been learning musical theory for about 5 years, and im pretty sure what you call an "anticipation" is an "anacrusis" even though thats probably not the correct spelling :P
Rhythmically, you are correct, but I'm using the term anticipation also to describe the fact that he uses a specific interval ( a semitone below) each time to lead into every chord. That way, when we hear the first note, we can anticipate what the chord will be...
Hey dave marks, doesn't the with or without you bass line by U2's adam clayton sound very much like the so lonely bass line? are those two the same lines?
lol thanks for this dave. i learnt this years ago but i always got the anticipation wrong coz i was leading into it with a whole tone not semi tone lol. Its funny how you stick with things you learn from years back
thanks for all your lessons, theyre very useful at least for me.. if is not to much to ask could you make a lesson about any floyd song?, i want to check out if im playing them the proper way :)
These lessons are meant to give you the building blocks of the song, to get you into it - the rest is up to you. You should use our ears and work out some of the other parts of the song - it's very simple and uses the same kind of chord progression all the way through (although it moves up 2 frets / 1 Tone / from C major to D Major at the guitar solo).
It's important as a student that you do not become too complacent & expect everything to be explained to you - everyone has the potential to work out songs - it's tricky at first but you need to work at it..
Thx alot for your video! It's great! I like it and it helped me a lot! Before I had found your video I was really desperate because I didn't find sheet music for the song...
Thanks

whats the difference between the passive and the active bass?
MrNorbi14 1 year ago
@MrNorbi14
Active : Uses a battery to get a strong sound, great attack (metalic and active sound, for slap, as example)
Passive : Doesn't use a battery, classic sound (plastic sound).
Pros about active : great sound, less vibration
Pros about passive : no battery to care about
If i'm wrong, i hope someone will correct me

Well spotted - they have the same chord movement. However, i felt that the rhythm and the techniques were different enough to learn a lot from both.

Also same as "no woman no cry" by bob marley, sting was influenced by him at the time

Many songs share this Chord Progression, If I remember Rightly Let it Be has the same Chords. Shows how the Same 4 chords can make many great songs.
