  • So if Spock is dead wtf is he doing in the new movies where he goes back in time well alive??

  • It's the "trinity" not trilogy !

  • Greg Cox wrote a book explaining the planet thing, that the "Reliant" came from another arm of the Ceti System and thus mistook the remains of Ceti Alpha VI for an astreoid belt nearby. It's also said that the whole Khan thing was ultra-top-secret so Chekov was prevented from talking to anyone about them having a great dictator marooned in the system.

  • The ending of this review was so funny, it was brilliant!

  • NC's review of Star Trek made me remember this review :)

  • NC recently reviews Star Trek: The Motion Picture and the rest of odd-numbered Star Trek sequels.

  • 5:45

Am I the only one that thinks, Spock sounded like Microsoft Sam?

  • Ahh Star Trek its okay but its just mostly dialogue to much talkin..

  • I like how you address these 3 as the trilogy set, because those 3 you mentioned are the only ones I've got on DVD.

  • @coopercastille Is the sound of the sand storms on Cethi alpha 5.

  • 2:30-:35

what the fuck is that sound?

  • you could almost say 5 is a sequel also. in the end of 4 they get a new enterprise but in the beginning of 5 you find out its a piece of shit.

  • Kirstie Alley didn't join the cast of Cheers until 1987. Wrath of Khan was released in 1992 and was her introductory role.

  • @evrbody it was released in 82 u mean

  • @evrbody Sorry buy you are wrong. The Wrath of Khan was released in 1982

  • As a kid I was always fighting with my older sister about Trek and SF, she always found that stuff totaly ridiculous. But then I dragged her into this movie (parents did not allow me to go alone and ordered her to take me with her) - she cried like a baby when Spock died, and ever since she became a great Trek and SF fan.

  • You know, Khan didn't have to take over the Enterprise. He was treated with hospitality, so maybe Kirk could've hooked him up with a ship, or recommend him to Starfleet. I guess that would've been to long and difficult for Khan, though.

  • Is that official art at 1:35?

  • @vikingfortiesfaeroes It is. One of at least three poster designs used for the theatrical release of STIV.

  • There WAS a Street Fighter I?!

  • My favorite is still Wrath of Kahn, with Undiscovered Country as a distant second.

  • 3:59 KHAN KNOWS ALL... O_O

  • Best review of this movie ever. Thanks James.

  • Thumbs up if you watched this, knowing about Day Job Orchestra videos :(D

  • khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan!khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan! I LOVE THAT SCENE.

  • Twiiiiiiiixxxxxxxxx!!!!!!!!

  • Twiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiixxxxx!!

  • For a fan you are dumb. You made over 20 mistakes in just the first 3 Minutes of this video. The most obvious is “Newly promoted Kirk”. Kirk was an Admiral (2 & 1/2 years) in The Motion Picture his demotion to Captain was only a formality just like Captain Decker’s demotion.

  • Can you do one about the 2009 star trek film? I really want to know what you think of it.

  • @capoteo96 he did

  • @KelanDWood where?

  • @capoteo96 on his site

  • @KelanDWood Thanks!

  • The point of Spok's death is that he would not do another Star Trek movie until they promised him a death scene. It's true look it up :)

  • Khan (the actor who played Khan) also was in escape and conquest of the apes.

  • @JamesNintendoNerd...... Jimmy baby, from one trekie to another let me just say it is perfectly feasable that Star Fleet might not be aware of a planet shifting orbit some where. As Lt.Uhura once said to Scott when they were trying to locate a missing Kirk and Spock and had no idea where they were: "It's an aweful big universe Mr. Scott!"...To which Scotty replies after a short pause......."I".

  • at 6:27 theres the triforce :D

  • Spocks death is key because it plays to the other theme of the film. The no win game, but more important its also how Khan gets his revenge on Kirk. I've done far worse then kill you, I've hurt you... Thats what he wanted and thats what he got with Spock. Its the best and sadist part of the movie on my opinion.

  • at 6:24 pause it and you will see the triforce hail zelda

  • @forrestfire2021 WTF? how did this happen? they beamed to hyrule to steal the triforce to try save Spock? hilarious.

  • The machinery and computer graphics responsible for showing off the effects of Genesis was made by Pixar, BTW. Or at least the guys who eventually became Pixar.

  • What I don't get is that Trekkies always bitch about the coincidences in the new movie, but their cool with Chekov just happening to land on the same planet as Khan.

  • What truly makes KHAAAAAAAAAAAAN epic is the fact Magicka has it.

  • To me, Star Trek sucks. Star Wars kicks ass (the original trilogy).

  • I love Star Trek II, but it's not my favorite. The Chekhov issue is part of that-- but I'd also point out that Khan always comes off like a complete idiot. Grabbing people by the throat and yelling... but never using his "supposedly" genius-level intelligence.

  • darth vader in star trek !?!

  • Your right the 70's had star wars

  • Did any one see a triforce in the thing spock was in

  • 3000 likes exactly lol

  • darth v. and ms. piggy

    XD

  • James the explosion of the planet was covered by a stellar pulse

  • what is up with the triforce at 6:21?

  • There is one mistake you made McCoy is not the voice of reason throughout the series- Spoke fill that void. McCoy is the humanistic, emotional voice.

  • @5inthehole If McCoy is the voice of emotion and Spock that of reason/logic, then what does that make Kirk?

  • @SPeacock

Well, Kirk is the decision maker and gutsy one in the three. Kinda look at this way, the three make the body of one captain. Kirk is the spine and guts, the gutsy and strong headed one. Spock is the brains; with his logic and intelligence. Where is McCoy brings humanistic emotion and altruistic meanings, he's the heart.

  • @Bartman954 Nice :) I never looked at it that way until you pointed it out. I like to compare the three main characters with the three primary colours of the light spectrum.

    Kirk - Red

    Spock - Green

    McCoy - Blue

  • @SPeacock Kirk represents the man of action according to D.C. Fontana

  • Well, I think I've said it before, but I've never watched a star trek movie, also I do know the Spock character almost as good as watching the movie... Didn't know he died though...

  • Mark Arandjus Yes, great theme for the Kirk / Khan conflict. Also, Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities. "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times", the first line in the book. Kirk / Spock. “ It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to, than I have ever known. " The last line in the book, and in ST II, a parallel at the end.

  • @forumghost1 I never made that connection until now :)

  • Hey I do remember watching the episode "Space Seed" so that means I qualify for following the storyline to "Wraith of Khan" :D

  • Hey James, if you read "To Reign in Hell" by Greg Cox's it can explain allot of stuff regarding Checkov and how Khan's life was on Ceti Alpha V.

  • I have everything you listed but the new Movie... the new movie turned me into Albert the Angery Star Trek Nerd. :D

  • KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN

  • @EatitHarvey Khhhhhhaaaaaaaaannnnnn! Khaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnn! Hahahahahahh!

  • @EatitHarvey Ahh, you beat me to it!

  • @BookReader150 I'm sorry :(

  • @EatitHarvey The best line in whole Star trek!

  • 1.JAmes make a Review on "Neon Genesis Evangelion", please !

2.the genesis device in computer graphic is looking pretty good in blu-ray

  • "You can see Darth Vader and Miss Piggy."

    LMAO!

  • Does anyone know if the Star Trek: Animated Series has been uploaded, because this is really the first time I have heard of it and I am kinda courious to see what its like.

  • @sillygrl23 it's okay I think you need 2 be a big Star Trek fan 2 like it

  • Spock died so Kirk would finally have to face death, as all his life he managed to escape, cheat, and avoid it.

  • When I was in the star trek convention this year they had a quiz game and there was only me and someone else left. The question was "did khan take over the ship reliant" andi said yes, but it turned out it was the defiant :(

  • @OrinjFlames24 It was Reliant.

  • @corbinmichael123 oh, see i got mixed up with the name again =(

  • @OrinjFlames24 no dude Khan did take over the Reliant. The person in charge of the answers was wrong. im not kidding

  • Don't understand why Spock was killed off in Wrath of Khan... check out his death scene... he's wearing a red shirt... nuf sed!

  • KAHN!

  • Star Trek 1 the motion picture rocked

  • @ustink0815 really slow and crazy off the wal efects and i didn' get the storyline so yea (altho i was young)

  • I know this was a while ago, but if you're interested, there was something put out in a few of the books saying that Chekov was just an ensine assigned to the lower decks when Khan was aboard.

The actor himself has a theory that Chekov actually made Khan wait an exeedingly long time to go to the bathroom, only to came out ten minuites later to say "Sorry, the toilet's jammed. You'll have to use one on another deck".

It's probably not true, but it just adds some menace to the enteragation scene.

  • "Kirk, Spock, and McCoy are given front stage...and that's the Trek we love." Right on, man! Love the Trio!

  • or it seems to me, or does James has a thing for trilogies?

  • Star Trek: The MOTIONLESS picture.

  • 6:24 there is a Triforce to the right

  • KAHN!

  • Yeah, Kahn even remembers people he had never met... lol great. ^^

  • HAHAHA!! LOL for the end...!! When the "evil" Captain Kirk looks into a moniter, and (of course an add on of the small (alternate) James Tiberius Kirk shown with the "robo" type cop), then the Kirk says....."I'am Captain Kirk.........I'am Captain Kirk............I'AM CAPTAIN KIRRRRK!!!!"

  • lol when khan puts something in his ear, it looks like a zerg larva

  • I just watched the seed episode.

All my friends think im wierd cause while their watching MTV and Jersey shore. Am i like "F*ck that sh*t" I a trecky fannnn~ XD

    Live LONG AND PROSPER!!! XDDD

  • Since we're mentioning Moby Dick we might as well mention that Khan quotes Captain Ahab in the movie. Y'know the whole from 'Hell's heart I stab at thee' speech.

  • Weird, I remember being a kid seeing one of those ear slugs crawling out of some dudes head and thought it was La Forge from TNG. Turns out it was actually a ST2 Wrath of Kahn scene. Just remembered I also had a big air up plastic Enterprise that was one of my favorite toys. Those were the days.

  • well atleast you added the KHAAAAAAAANNNNN at the end

  • No. Star Trek One is an awful movie. A betrayal. But Star Trek II is a great movie...

  • Okay, we get it! You're captain Kirk.

  • @Soulsphere001 captain Kirk Hammett?

  • KHAN!!!!!!

  • Hey I am just getting into Star Trek and I know one thing, I am gonna like I and V, but II probably not so much, I think it totaly devalues and ruins the open ending of Spae Seed, and I love thw crazy plots and effects of I and VA,atleast from what I saw in reviews and trailers. But than again I probably don`t know what I am talking about.

  • The Motion Picture was good as its own movie, but hardly ties in well enough with the other films. It's just too different comparitively speaking. The Trilogy as he puts it, is still my favorite framework for Star Trek.

  • 6:56 LOL

It sounds like hes saying, "I've got a turd!"

  • This is my all time favorite movie!

  • the prob witn the first movie was that they didnt acknowledge the aging of any of the characters, and used a script that was developed for the return of a star trek series

  • Excellent! You are a bright observer and your comments are on target.

  • hahhahahahhahaha

  • If Spock didn't want to die he shouldn't have worn a red shirt.

  • I think they had Spock die because at the lack of success of the first movie, they were prepared to end the franchise if this movie didn't do well.

  • i like how with the new movie, most of the time when it is written, it is written as star trek 11, or star trek XI.

  • Kirstie, not Kristie.

  • @ JamesNintendoNerd I laugh so hard I cryed when you said Star Trek 2 is like Street Fighter 2 no one gives a shit about the first one. And I just bought the Star Trek Trilogy on Blue Ray just awesome.

  • This isn't a very good reviewe IMO, James isn't a very good movie reviewer full stop, defiantly overrated

Watch SF Debris review, his review is like 10 times better than this

  • @elcap22

And what exactly makes a good reviewer?

    He gives his opinion...That's it

  • KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN

  • Kirk was an Admiral in the first Star Trek film and he did a different job in Star Trek 1 than in Star Trek 2. Guess he was able to move jobs when ever he wanted too. I also find it interesteing that there's a second five year mission between Star Trek's 1 and 2. I wish someone would inform us about the five or so years between the first and second films.

  • you wasted 2 min of 7 min to explain why you call them a trilogy...

  • @randomuser942464 as opposed to two minutes he could've used to cover...?

  • @Bauglir100 not waste our time and do nothing. jackass

  • @randomuser942464

well, a double jackass on you! Besides, why is it a problem? It didn't affect the pacing of this review, and it was interesting to see him cover "Star Trek: The Motion Picture", thank you very much.

  • when I first watched this I asked"Why are they fighting over a 200 year-old game console

  • Actually, there is a book that tries to explain how Starfleet classified the whole Khan thing and Chekov was under orders to keep quiet and they just didn't want to bother checking on him afterward so missed the moon exploding.

  • how duz spoc die

  • @Haloking316 Radiation Poisoning while saving the Enterprise from the Genesis device.

  • I've got everything but the new movie, I didn't care for it. However if Abrams 2nd movie has Khan in it (and I have heard it might) and it is done well, I may pick up both of them. Other wise I won't bother.

  • "Generations" ("Star Trek 7" to you noobs out there) is the best one. It's a meeting between Jim Kirk and Jean-Luc Picard, so it's two captains for the price of one!!!

  • My take on the ST movies: I: Bad II: Great III: Good IV: Good V: Haven't seen VI: Great VII: Good VIII: Great IX: Haven't Seen X: Haven't Seen XI: Great
  • @DrBreakfastMachine You haven't seen "Insurrection"!? That's one of the best ones!

  • I'M CAPTAIN KIRK!!! That thing at the end is hilarious.

  • KHAAAN!!!

  • Walter Koenig has surmised that perhaps Chekov was a member of the crew, but just happened to never be shown in the first season; he jokes that maybe an off-duty Chekov accidentally caused Khan to wait uncomfortably long to get to the men's room, leaving a particularly indelible impression.

  • you forgot the fact that khan quotes a klingon proverb ' revenge is a dish that is best served cold...and it is very cold in space'

How did Khan know anything at all about klingons and thier culture! NITPICK LOL.

  • @dvarblo Easily explained. His wife, Lt. Marla McGivers, was a Starfleet officer and was exposed to all sorts of different culture while serving on the Enterprise before being exiled with the Botany Bay crew on Ceti Alpha V. She could've taught Khan that proverb before she passed away.

  • I loved the trilogy, of course. But I loved ST:TMP just as much. And so you merely dismissing it is just not right. In any case, what is this? Star Trek for retards?

  • @spacecowboy5000 No, it's star trek for people who aren't complete geeks.

  • @highwaydwell Toucher!

  • thanks james rolfe for itroducing me to star trek.

  • I don't think it was a risk. They obviously knew that another movie was coming, and even had the script written out (roughly at least), since we see Spock do the mind thingy with McCoy. Literary LawOfConservationOfDetail, that scene would not be there with no reason. And that reason is not explored in WoK.

  • Your commentary is a bore. I agree with you but who cares what you think?

And your ST-TMP comments reveal a Lucas/Speilberg fan. Enjoy Tin Tin!

  • Supposedly, the computer effects on the that simulation of the Genesis's effects was done by Pixar... Or at least the guys who would form Pixar later on after this movie.

  • but wait you didnt even mention 5.

  • well think why they kill off spoke so ppl would go see star trek 3 thiers a money making sceam for paramount just wish 5 did better

  • 6:57 Turn off the audio and read these words in the same pace as his mouth:

    "I sucked his cock!"

  • nah, the first movie was the best.

  • @Feivel2000

LOL your English doesn't make any sense.

  • I once liked ST II, but then I got sick of it. It got so hyped as the best Trek movie ever that they would play it over and over ad nauseum on TV. It got to the point where I was like, "Dang, there's other Star Trek movies out there too that you can play."

The only reason Spock died is because Nimoy felt typecast and didn't want to play the role any more (this is around when he wrote "I Am Not Spock"?). Of course then they had to write a script to bring Spock back after Nimoy changed his mind.

  • By defeating Khan, you mean beating the everlasting shit out of him with a plastic hook-thingy

  • This is the only Trek movie I have in my DVD collection, I've seen the others, but this one is for me the most awesome of the classic films.

  • i havent seen the original but the new one was awesome

  • Star Trek: The Motion Picture is fucking awesome, check it out and make your own mind up.

  • omg someone upload wrath of khan already

  • KHANNNNNN!!!!!!! XD

  • 0_o you can see the zelda symbol at 6:22

  • @TheTriforcebearer ITS CALLED A TRIFORCE sorry for caps i had em on on accident

  • Comment removed

  • I always laugh when Spock raises his eyebrow! It's hilarious.

  • Wrath of Khan is without question the best Star Trek film. Even with the Chekov bloopers. :) Oh and Spock died because Nimoy didn't want to be a part of the film because he like everyone else thought the first film was AWFUL. Then the powers that be realized that ST is not ST without Spock and told Nimoy he could direct the third film. He also directed the fourth film. Also, anyone notice how his name isn't in the opening credits in ST3? Tricky. Anyway, great video. The ending was great

  • yeah the whole "Chekov" really bugged me about the movie too.. I mean nearly anyone else.. didn't they have technical writers on that part..lol

  • So was wondering, if they make a Star Trek movie (and there is as many of you already know a sequel in the works) with the new cast (Chris Pine,Zachary Quinto etc) and they decide to put the Khan character in the movie what actor should play him? Of course the original actor Ricardo Montlebaun is out since he's dead.

  • One rumor I heard was that Dwayne The Rock Johnson was interested in Playing Khan. He does have a good build, and I liked him in The Scorpion King. But I'm sure he could play Khan.

  • at 6:28 pause and look near the right its the triforce

  • khaaan(dot)com

lol i'ts funny, especially how someone bought the webspace and it's been up for like ten yrs now lol, almost as cool as Zombo(dot)com lol which makes no sense lol...

  • ROFLMAO, "You are here, dumbass !" !

  • lol yes, that was funny

  • and the thing about chekov not even being on the series before space seed, wow... and the slugs going in people's ears to control them sounds like animorphs!

  • his gloomy mansion, Batman. Enjoy this film @ Movie Watcher. US

  • Spock dies because Kirk has never faced defeat before, it comes with getting older, or some shit like that, its not that hard to figure out.

  • Wait...OMG!!! In Spore, the staff of life is like the genesis project!

  • ... most illogical.

    LOL!

  • Lol the tri-force at 6:22.

  • ST 3 was awesome. I always been a Star Wars fan but throughout the years I have grown to like Star Trek and by far the Wrath of Khan is one of my all time favorite. Great Review!!!

  • I have to disagree here. I thought The Motion Picture was the best one. That slow, meticulous artistry similar to 2001 ASO is exactly what I like about it. I think it's pretty shortsighted to just act like it never existed. That should be applied to every ST movie made since IV. They were wretched, particularly TNG films. I still don't understand how such a great series can't make a decent film.

I thought the new ST movie was decent. Not good or bad.

  • Great stuff =)

I humbly agree, STII, TWOK is by far the best of Star Trek!

  • What about part 5?
