  • Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings doing a song about Hank Williams - how much more country can you get? :P

  • Waylon and Johnny are legends, But HANK WILLIAMS WILL ALWAYS BE THE KING OF COUNTRY MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Waylon and Johnny are legends, But HANK WILLIAMS WILL ALWAYS BE THE KING OF COUNTRY MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • How did hank sing Cheatin' Heart if the song didn't get released until after his death?

  • @fenderbender256 Maybe it was recorded, but hadn't been put on an album yet.

  • thumbs up if hank brought you here

  • I agree hank is the king but johnny was great too

  • WAYLON!

  • Really great overlooked tune! This was when Johnny first signed with Mercury after all those years with Columbia Records. I had the cassette of this album back in the day, I'm thinking around 1986. Anybody know how high this single reached on the charts? Thanks for posting this one.

  • @DomenicDee This single reached #43 on the country charts. It was the only single released from the album "Johnny Cash Is Coming To Town". The album was released in April of 1987 and reached #36 on the charts. I too had the cassette back in the day and I now have it on CD.

  • SUPERBWON HAS NO IDEA WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT. OK LETS START THE LIST-LEFTY FRIZZEL-HANK SNOW-CARL SMITH-EDDIE ARNOLD-THE CARTER FAMILY- ROY ACUFF -ERNEST TUBB-JIMMY WAKLEY-SLIM WITHMAN-JIMMY DAVIS-JIMMY DICKENS-RAY PRICE-AND MANY MORE I CANT REMEMBER. AND NONE OF THEM WAS BLUEGRASS. BILL MONROE WAS THE BEST OF BLUE GRASS.

  • You get your money's worth in the first fifteen minutes, and the rest of the show is FREE!

  • this is a fine folk song, giving us a slice of american life in the 1950s and a sense of the bigness of Hank who was a precursor to Elvis.

  • 3 people must like taylor swift and that pop trash

  • cbdesade, Your not considering the competition Hank had, very few. Country was new most music was bluegrass. If Hank was here today writing most of his songs would not be hits. Back then you could write a song about a woman crying over an onion and it would be a hit. Folks were tired of blugrass and country offered a new sound. A God? Nope just good timing. Like todays country rock sound. 25yrs ago the old "true country" singers were ran out of nashville for a new sound. Now country SUCKS!

  • Mr Cash is and always will be on my utes music as I drive from job to job ,,makes my work just that bit easier,,on ya Johnny,,,

  • Who cares about other artist's on a johhny cash video, comment on there vids if you must, johhny cash is beyond words, love his music :)

  • He is a great singer!!!! Go johnny!

  • This is one of my favourites by Johnny.

  • Johnny Cash transcends music and is part of the fabric several generations.

  • Did you know Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings were best friends? How epic is that? Too legendary singers.

    BTW, Johnny cash created music.

  • @TheAlphaWolf100 Wasn't WJ a member of Buddy Holly's band too?

  • @moominpic It's possible. I'm not sure though. Don't you mean Weezer?

  • @moominpic Yes he was. I believe he was the drummer. He lost a coin toss for the plane seat to the Big Bopper. And that was the night the plane went down, and WJ was the lone survivor because he had to take the bus instead of the plane.

  • @sumerixt Waylon was the bass player. He gave up his seat because the Bopper was ill and didn't feel like taking the longer bus ride.

  • @ Wreckless....I believe Cash would draw the larger crowd by far, however, I also believe that Hank WiIliams was light years ahead of Cash in talent.

  • THE GREAT JOHNNY CASH R.I.P

  • I lost a bit of respect for cash when he decided to entertain the criminals instead of the victims of crime.

  • @basenjib123 doesn't it occur to you that by playing to them he may have given some of them inspiration to make something of themselves... I believe one such person was Merle Haggard.

  • Hank Williams is the greatest that ever lived....its not even debatable.

  • @basenjib123

There is no competition in music. I bet the both draw big crowds where ever they are now and neither of them too big to back the other up.

  • Johnny Cash is greater than Hank Williams, Sure Hank is a hero of his time but Johnny is a God, and he always will be.

  • coke and burger cost 30cents what times........

  • He is the king of country but Hank Williams snr is the lord of country! no doubt! but I love them both. It says enough that Alan Jackson Johnny Cash George strait all sung about him The great Hank williams snr!!!!!!

  • play this in the car every day!!!

  • CASH....All others are pretenders.

  • is it just an up and down strum for this

    ?

  • I love Lucy debuted Oct 15 1951. Hank Williams had not yet written Jambalaya or Your Cheatin' Heart. He could not have been singing them in public at that time.

    Those little details.

  • yes it surely is Waylon :)

  • That part where the song goes

"On and on he sang into the night, Jambalya, Cheatin Heart, I saw the light.

How'd they get Miss Audrey in that gound?"

    Isn't that Waylon Jennings?

  • theyre both great but theres a reason HE sang about hank

  • 30Cent for a coke and burger :O

What a Time he lived in!!!!

  • Johnny Cash

  • I love that it's Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings singing this. I hadn't heard it in a long time.

  • in my book Hank Williams is the number 1 country singer of all time followed by johnny cash then david allan coe

  • Hank had his moment in the spot light but Johnny takes that "strawberry cake" if you know that song lol

  • Hank Williams Rox.

  • to me cash was and is the hero ever since i was a little kid

  • Whenever things got tough I would put Johnny Cash in the 8 track in my car and drive around and all of a sudden all seemed right with the world.

Hank is awesome and a genius but Johnny Cash is my main man.

  • Johnny or Hank who's greater?

  • Johnny Cash may be a "legend" or "icon," but Hank Williams is a god of music. In his brief life the man wrote about 1000 songs, many of them masterpieces. That's creative genius, which is rare and unequaled.

  • @cbdesade To start with, "Johnny Cash may be a "legend" or "icon," is an insult to the legend and the man considering you looked up his song. This man is singing about one of his idols and you post something that is rather negative towards Johnny Cash. I would agree that Hank Williams is an absolute terrific artist, but to compare him to Johnny cash is apples and oranges. They are equally great in their time frames.

  • @krookdad actually you can chill though yeah hank is the greatest. just sayin what he/she said doesnt matter and it wasnt even derogatory

  • @cbdesade Of course,Johnny loved Hank as a child.

  • @cbdesade YA KNOW YA HISTORY,, RIGHT ON,,,

  • They're both legends without equal. That said....

... Johnny is my number one. Always will be.

  • they're both great but its hank first then johnny

  • hank definetly but their both legends

  • Thanks For Posting

  • chiccc..ah..boom..boom...it was on the night j. Cash came to town...!!!

  • I have never heard this before.

    Blown away.

It kinda reminds me of the night in 1959 when Johnny Cash came to town..........

  • hank............

  • i have looked for this song forever thanks for posting

  • Johnny is an American treasure and if anyone wants to know what America is they just have to listen to Johnny and his music.

I believe that he is the heart of American Music.

    Thanks for posting.

Just to let you know Waylon also sings in this song.

  • Props to that. He's the man!

(and thanks, I never knew that Waylon sang this, too. cool. :))

  • Nobody sings quite like Johnny.

  • I could listen to this a thousand (more lol) times... Johnny Cash is definitely a legend in all of music.

  • love this song, *****

  • Im so glad i finally found this ive been looking all over for it thank you for posting it

  • Great song!

    I really liked this one!

    Thanks for sharing.

  • awesome hes the best

  • johnny is one of the greatest country singers ever in their time

  • @xmb152 their time? he is one of the greatest in all time...

  • @xmb152 he's one of the best country singers ever in our time as well, a lot of new country artists only sing about love, or only sing for the money, this was real country music, jank williams would roll over in his grave if he seen what was happening to country music today!

  • Awsome...

  • one of the great songs of all time!
