Nice footage Matt! The camera location made me feel like I was going to get hit in the face by Layla's starboard quarter. :-) Outside boat driver needs to read the rule book...What a knuckle-dragger! There's one in every fleet, isn't there? Hope he has learned his lesson and doesn't repeat.
We once had a bow crash through our stern (would have been midships if we hadn't altered course) as we were yelling "Starboard" at the finish. Turns out they were out-of-control, with a jammed sail and couldn't alter course. (Although they could have mentioned something, were rendered mute.) We protested calling "major damage." But we got squat because we didn't get to the protest room in time. Spent too much time writing it and not enough getting it filed. Moral to the story - Write quick
Yes, we were within 2 boatlengths of the mark. We definitely had overlap on the boat below us, and thought they were overlapped on the third boat. The third didn't think they were overlapped and ran us all up, and din't call for room. They ended up doing one turn because we were protesting, but didn't do 720. Boat below didn't do any. All good fun though... we're a pretty close knit fleet and try to keep the protests to a minimum.
Based on the fact that the boat headed up to a closed hauled course I assume you were within 2 boatlengths of the mark when this collision occured. Did the outside boats accept penalty turns? Looks like you had rights here.
