St. Peters Seminary, Cardross

A few things happened; decline of the Catholic Church so less priests to train and less money to run these buildings. The oil strike. In the 70s oil became awfully expensive. The seminary was oil heated and not heated properly because of cost.

Roof gutters weren't maintained so water got in. It shut in 1990 and the vandals did thier best. torching the scots baronial Kilmahew house then wrecking the rest of the place.

Briefly visited the ruins of St Peter's Seminary in the late '90s, it was in much the same state then having been abandoned for around ten years. Despite what's often claimed, it was only abandoned in the late '80s; the catholic church stopped using it in around 1980 when it ceased to be a seminary but it was used as a drug rehabilitation centre for the rest of that decade. Apparently it was plagued by problems with heating and water leaking in for much of the time it was used.
