It can give you information on any subject, and in a more intimate manner than the internet does. How would it be about how wrong the thug lifestyle is if it didn't show the thug lifestyle? With all the encouragement kids get from 50 Cent to shoot people and have anonymous sex and deal drugs, I think something to counter that influence is fine. It's not vulgar, it is actually ABOUT vulgarity and how wrong it is, and to be about vulgarity, you have to show vulgarity.

Wow. Changing the imagery has changed the complexion of the whole message. Now instead of an empty message, we show the youth what to read and offer an example in the images. White supremacists love the old nigga video, but I'd wager they'd have a problem with this updated version which focuses on producing strong black people. Nice counteraction.

I find this response video more powerful than the original as well. It shows what folks can accomplish if they use their brains. I don't care if you're black, white, red, yellow, whatever the hell color people refer to you as; use your head and we, as AMERICANS will see you for the brilliant mind that you are.

The video is not about reading books, it is a parody mocking of those who don't, or can't read. Communication is 90% visual & 10% audible. The visuals counteract the "so-called" message of reading a book. Judging whether this is acceptable by comparisons of what Satan has already put on tv is erroneous. We should judge by the highest standard, not the lowest.

I think you people are reading into this to much. I'm black but I'm literate. A lot of people can read they just don't choose too. So the song is telling them to expand their minds by reading. Besides theres a stereotype that black people don't read. Not true. A lot of people in every race don't read either they don't have the time, theres something better on tv etc. So we can all learn something from this go read a book.

And thirdly, whites are not the "highest race percent in jail", blacks are...and if more blacks started to read books, like this song says, instead of joining gangs, spending all their money on luxuries they not only don't need, but can't even afford, perhaps we would have a lower crime rate and more black people would start to do something with their lives.

Read a book is a good message, but, communication skills in our society are also important. If this is the way to communicate with kids nowdays, we're in trouble! I see it everywhere! This is the way alot of kids try to get by everyday....if you want them to have a half a chance at a decent future, set an example to live by! Children learn what they live! I can't believe BET thinks this filthy language is appropriate and in any way helps educate our youth!
